04 - Chapter Four - Leno's Point Of View.
The day after the moon had been pure bliss. Diego was loving and accepting, but I should have known it was still the after-effects of the moon because the next day he was back to being as rude and distant as possible for him. Typical Diego.
The worst of it had started as soon as we woke up moments apart. I had run into him in the hall and our bodies touched making sparks ignite. He growled and made sure to shove me away and walk faster into the kitchen. I made my way into the kitchen and did the very thing he hated most. I took the last cup of coffee in the pot. I could sense his anger running under his skin. He just wanted to lose it and say something but he didn't. Goodness, I was thankful for that.
I decided I needed a run.
I left the house with no words to Diego and ran out into the snow, sure it was cold but it wasn't too bad if you kept your heart rate up but didn't make yourself sweat. With it being the time it was I surely knew that the daycare would still be open. Pepper was everyone's favourite little omega. Knowing he would need help with the daycare I went and helped. I got the building and shifted, dressing quickly before going in. "Oh thank goodness, Leno could you do me a huge favour?”
"Of course Pepper, what do you need?"
"Could you watch all the pups till they all get picked up by their parents?"
"Of course, but why if you don't mind me asking?"
"My mate and I are having a huge family dinner and I have a few pups that need to stay longer and I couldn't miss dinner.”
"I understand, I'll cover for you Pepper. Enjoy your dinner.”
Pepper left in a flash. Surely he had plenty of things he needed to get done. With Diego in the mood, he was in. I was pretty happy to be away from him. Honestly, I loved helping out with the pups. Books, toys, crafts, snack time, nap time, I loved it all, right down to screaming pups.
Slowly one by one the pups were leaving. Their parent's did training or working at the clinic or whatever other jobs they had been assigned. Vampire children began to fill the night-care for them as their parents woke up to do their jobs. I stayed long enough for the night care teacher to show up then I darted. As much as I loved children I didn't want to be a baby vampires pin cushion. The temperature had dropped quite a bit that I found myself shivering as I walked home in the cold. The walk was a good ten minutes from the daycare, and with all the vampires in the streets now it was too dangerous to be in wolf form in case they would get hurt. Not all the wolves would be asleep now, and that was better reinforced when a few of the warrior wolves came over to me. You could smell the booze on their skin. They pushed and shoved me, causing me to fall and bite my lip. The smell of my blood had a few of the vampires watching and somehow a fight got started between a vampire and the drunk wolves.
I attempted to stop the fight but one of the wolves punched me square in the face. Talk about ringing my bell. My world was spinning and the pain in my face was enough to make me want to puke. After a sober warrior broke the fight up he comes towards me who was holding my face trying to piece together what the fuck had happened. He drew in a breath and swore under his breath.
Slowly against his protest to be taken to the medical centre, I made my way home. I walked up the packed down snow towards the door nearly falling a few times. I turned the doorknob to find it didn't open the door. I turned the knob once more, twice, three times more before I realized the door was locked. I hip-checked the door and let out a squeal of curses as I hurt myself even more. I took a breath before banging on the door.
I could hear jogging down the stairs and the door opened. I waved as Diego's eyes locked on my face. He roughly grabbed my wrist and hauled me inside the door slamming behind him and he turned and spoke deeply. His voice was deadly scary.
"What in the ever-loving fuck happened to you? Huh?"
