Words Unspoken

Chapter Chapter Twenty Seven

The following day, we all gathered into the Van once again. All except Dave. We didn't want to risk the rescue mission if they recognized him. So, Dave stayed behind to guide us through the building using these walkie talkies Joe had in one of the boxes in his little hideout room.

As we headed on towards the White House, I recalled the conversation I had with Dave last night.

Dave was standing in front of the map that was displayed on the wall. His hands placed behind his back as he stared intently. The others were going over the plan, and Joe was teaching them how to use a gun, just in case we had to use it, and for my sake and everyone else's, I hope we didn't have too.

I slowly walked over to Dave and stood next to him. I stared at the map, then at him, then back at the map.

"I'm glad Jill is alright. That she's safe, and surrounded by people who care for her." Dave spoke up after the long silence between us.

"We haven't had contact with her since we left, I hope she's okay. I know she's worried about Noah." I replied with a soft sigh.

"Noah, Joe's and Linda's kid." He said with a shake of his head. I could see a small smile forming on his lips from the corner of my eye. "He was a good kid, always staying out of trouble."

"Yeah, well look at him now...captured.."

It grew silent once again. Just the voices of the others in the background.

"Once we rescue them, will you come back?" I asked and turned to look at him. I watched as Dave played with his beard, his eyes focused on the map for a second before turning to look at me.

"I would love to, but-" he said but stopped as he stared at the wall. I raised an eyebrow crossing my arms over my chest.

"But what?" I asked tilting my head as I watched him for a moment. He let out a long sigh before turning to look at me.

"I don't think Jill would be happy to see me." He admitted and I nodded my head slowly to what he said.

"Well, I've known Jill for a while now. Even though she hasn't mentioned you one bit, I know she'll be happy to see you." I replied giving him a reassuring smile. Dave placed a hand on my shoulder and nodded his head.

"Let's rescue Noah and Linda, okay?" He added and I gave him a nod.

We soon arrived to the White House. Joe drove up to the large gate. A security guard stepped out of the booth on our left and made his way over to the drivers side of the van.

"Name?" He said staring down at the clipboard, not making eye contact with us.

"Jensen Adams." Joe said calmly. The security guard looked up for a second before looking back down at the clipboard.

"New cleaning crew. Alright." He said as he walked back into the booth. A second later the gates opened. The guard gave a quick wink to Joe and we finally made it through.

"Wait...he works for the rebellion?" Krista said out loud and Joe gave a nod.

"Yeah, I told you we still have some people out here." He said with a smile. Joe pulled around to the back of the building.

"Alright Sam and Kyle, disguises on now." Joe said to us and the two of us put on our wigs and fake glasses. Ben turned to look at us.

"Okay, this is it, Noah and his mom should be here. We stick to the plan. And we use the code names through these walkie-talkies." He said as he handed each of us a walkie talkie.

The four of us got out of the car, except Joe, since we needed an escape route as soon as we rescued Noah and his mom.

Ben stepped up to the door and knocked on it twice and then once and then twice once again. The door opened and a tall skinny man with black hair in a dark blue janitors outfit was standing there. His eyes flickered over to the Van and gave Joe a nod before letting us in. Another man whom I assumed was part of the rebellion.

"I'm Henry." He said as the door closed behind him. We all shook his hand before he motioned for us to follow him. We walked down a long corridor and ended up in front of a wooden door on our left. Inside was the cleaning carts and other "cleaning supplies" we needed.

"Do you know where they're being held?" Ben asked breaking the silence. Henry turned to look at us and let out a small sigh nodding his head.

"Yes I do. There's a basement, filled with empty rooms, interrogation rooms judging by the looks of them. I was "cleaning" and that's when I noticed your friend. Before that they've been empty for a long time." He explained to us.

"Joe got ahold of me last night, told me his son and wife were down there."

"Is Noah okay?" I asked, concern filled my voice as I looked up at the man. He avoided looking in my eyes.

"Is he okay??" I repeated and he finally looked at me, a sadness in his eyes.

"He's pretty banged up..." he finally answered. I let out a small sigh of relief as I turned to look at the others. Kyle placed a hand on my shoulder.

"We're getting them out today." Ben said to us and we all nodded.

Krista and I went one way while Ben, Kyle and Henry went the other way. I rolled the cart down the hallway as we looked around for a bit.

"There's two entrances to the basement, Henry mentioned that earlier. One for the president and the other for the guards and cleaning crew."

It was up to Krista and I to find the entrance the president uses. My guess was that it had to be in his office, easy access right?

We continued down the carpeted halls and ended up in front of two double doors. Krista and I exchanged looks as she opened the door slowly and peeked through.

"This is it." She whispered. I gave her a nod and the two of us made our way inside. The office was fairly big and there was a large window over looking the front area. Krista closed the door and the two of us got to work. We walked over to the walls and bookshelves, hoping to find some sort of entrance.

Twenty minutes had passed and we still couldn't find the entrance to the basement.

"Okay this is a little ridiculous." Krista spoke up as she crossed her arms over her chest and looked around the room. I nodded my head in agreement as I paced back and forth. The two of us then stopped when we heard voices from the other side of the door.

"Shit!" Krista whisper shouted. The two of us looked around the room, when I had an idea. I rushed over to the cleaning cart, grabbed two rags and two spray bottles handing a rag and spray bottle to Krista and the other for me.

"Pretend to clean." I whispered as I made my way to one of the shelves. Krista gave me a nod and made her way to the other side. The two of us started to "clean" as the double doors opened.

"This isn't working, we need to-" a voice spoke but immediately stopped.

"What are you two doing in here?"

I slowly turned around to see who was speaking and my eyes widened slightly, it was the President.

"We were told to come clean in here." I replied quickly and Krista gave a nod in agreement.

"Oh, of course. Well thank you, you may go now." He said as he looked between the two of us. We gave him a nod and quickly gathered ourselves and out the door. Once we stepped out, the door slammed shut behind us.

"Great..." Krista muttered under her breath. "Good cover up though." She said to me as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"No this is good, if they don't come out in the next 10 minutes that means they used the secret entrance to get to Noah."

"Yeah but one problem, we don't know where the hell it is."

I stepped closer to the door, pressing my ear against it. No voices were speaking on the other side. Maybe they used the entrance already. I turned to look at Krista, her arms were crossed over her chest as she raised an eyebrow at me. Slowly reaching for the door handle, I opened the door and peaked my head through. No one was in there.

Krista closed the door behind us as I looked around the room once more. My eyes flickered towards the floor where the carpet was. I raised an eyebrow noticing that part of the carpet was lifted. I took a few steps closer and pulled off the large carpet and underneath the carpet revealed a wooden door with a a black handle.

"Holy crap.." I heard Kristas voice behind me. I reached into my belt and pulled my walkie talkie out and pressed the button to speak.

"Ben. Kyle. We found the presidents hidden door to the basement, it was in his office."

"Awesome job Sam, we're at the other entrance right now. You guys have protection right?"

I looked at Krista and she gave me a nod. Both of us had handguns hidden in our boots.

I pressed the button to speak once again.

"Yeah, we're good."

"Great. Let's go get them."

I slipped the walkie talkie back into my belt and crouched down to open the door. I turned to look at Krista and she took in a deep breath.

"Come on." I said to her as the two of us slowly made our way down the stairs.
