Chapter 80
Stepping away from him, I look at him feeling completely shocked.
“Mark me,” he repeats quietly, then grabbing the back of my neck he brings me closer to him again.
“I only want to be known as yours.” He runs his thumb on my lower lip, his eyes following his action, “Your mark is the only one that I want to adorn on my neck.”
“Claim again what is yours, Ivory.” His lips replace his thumb, caressing my lips gently, making my heart skip a beat, “Remove the traces of filth from my existence and purify me by making me yours.” He breaks at the kiss as he looks into my eyes with such intensity that penetrates directly into my soul.
“Donovon.” I breathe, closing my eyes as I slightly shake my head, “I can’t” I pull his mouth into another kiss, because I want him to know that I am not rejecting him.
“I want to, but I can’t” My heart aches because I want this, but somewhere I feel he is not ready. I feel that he is just saying this because he wants to remove her mark from him, not because of his true feelings for me.
“Why?“He demands, his crestfallen eyes showing his hurt.
“Why do you want me to mark you?” I ask in return, hoping to hear what my heart wants, not what my mind is telling me.
“Because I love you,” he answers without missing a beat like this is the most obvious thing and I am stupid to even ask this question. “And you are my mate.”
Mate.
This word stirs something inside me. It feels like it has been ages since I have heard this word from his mouth. I don’t even remember when was the last time he called me his mate.
Silently, I glance at him as his words echoing in my mind while a wave of contentment rolls over my heart. The happiness which I am feeling is not only mine, as even my wolf is howling happily in my mind.
However, he mistakes my silence for something else.
“I am sorry, I shouldn’t have made such a demand.” He drags his hand through his hair, trying to conceal his pain, “I understand that you don’t want to mark me, as I was not a good mate to you. Even though it’s unintentional, but I have hurt you in a way that is unforgivable.” He starts walking backward, increasing the distance between us.
“I am sorry, Ivory... I was just not thinking straight. I should not have pressured you into doing something which you don’t want-”
Even before he can complete his sentence, I find myself plunging my canines deep into his neck as Fire takes over my senses.
A growl vibrates inside my chest, as I feel my soul connecting with his again. My teeth dig deep into his neck, as possessiveness crawling inside me thinking about someone else mark on his neck.
“Mine,” I growl lowly while possessiveness rolling through me in waves. “Only mine... No one else.” Before I know, my hand turns into a claw, as I slash the other side of his neck where that horrendous mark lies.
Not deep enough to leave any permanent damage, but still, sharp enough to remove that mark from his neck.
“Yours, baby, only yours.” He doesn’t even flinch when I slash him but instead, he holds me securely in his arms. “No one else’s, just yours.” His voice heavy with emotions.
I lick the puncture wound until it is healed, as then my attention turns to cut which I made on his neck. I start licking the cut on his neck while summoning my powers to help him connect with his wolf.
“No.” He tries to push me away when warmth starts to emit from my body, slowly reaching to him, “Don’t Ivory, please, don’t.” he pleads, but I don’t let him move away from me.
A burning sensation slowly starts to spread throughout my body, but I ignore it while keeping my attention on Donovon.
“Call him forward.” Holding his face, I look into his eyes pleadingly.
The burning feeling keeps on increasing with each passing second.
A look of defeat passes through his face, as he nods his head.
When I sense him trying to call his wolf, I lend my strength to him from our newly formed bond. I can feel the invisible barrier separating him from his wolf.
I don’t know what to do, but I keep on thinking about pushing past the barrier as the voices in my head becoming stronger.
I can feel like they are trying to fight me because pressure starts to build up inside my mind. But not giving up, I focus on the connection between Donovon and Wolfie.
Sweat gathers around Donovon’s forehead, as he is trying hard to reach his wolf. He is not able to hear those voices, as I have blocked them from reaching him. However, those annoying voices are ringing in my head, only adding fuel to already increasing anger.
The connection between him and his wolf starts to get stronger as the barrier starts to get weaker. But the burning which I am feeling becomes intolerable as suddenly I feel like being engulfed in hot flames.
A scream leaves my mouth, as every inch of my body seems like on fire. There is no fire in reality, but the pain which I am feeling is similar to the pain of flesh being burned.
Donovon’s panicked eyes lock with mine, as even he seems clueless what is happening to me.
“Burning... my body is burning,” I manage to say while whimpering in pain.
Understanding flashes across his expression, while his eyes widen in horror.
“You have marked me, but I haven’t marked you. The bond is incomplete, and it will only be completed until I have marked you,” he whispers his voice full of regret, “I am sorry this is all because of me... without my wolf, I can’t mark you.” He holds me against him like he is trying to take away my pain by hiding me in his chest.
The pain searing through my body is making it difficult to understand anything. The burning intensifies as I thrash in his arms screaming in pain.
Abruptly a loud growl resonates in my ears, and a moment later the pain dies down. While another kind of burning overtakes my body when a pair of canine breaks my skin, sinking into my neck.
