Chapter 75
Donovon’s POV
Even while sleeping her tears flow from her eyes, and my heart hurts to see how much pain she carries inside her.
I used to think that the pain which I am going through is the worst, but today I realized it is nothing compared to what she has endured.
I don’t even remember anything, even then my heart ached from being away from her and here she remembers each and every moment of us and then she had to watch me with someone else. This must have been devastating for her.
That’s why now I don’t want to waste any moment by grieving about what I have lost, I just want to be thankful and content what I have now.
Ivory, my love, and Ella, my life.
Nothing else matters to me, in front of them. If I have them in my life, then everything is perfect for me. However, I do miss my wolf, I wish just like I have got them back, even I get him back soon.
He is an extension of my being and I am incomplete without him.
Turning my head, I look at Ivory to find that now she has stopped crying and finally she has drifted into a deep sleep.
Softly, pecking her lips once I quietly walk outside the room. She needed me to be with her, to help her with the turmoil which was brewing inside her. But now I have to step back into the world where reality is waiting for me.
Instantly, I cover my nose with the curve of my elbow as the revolting smell hits me as soon as I enter the room where everyone else is present.
But I can’t hide my shock when my eyes land on Emma’s heart which has now completely turned black even the blood which was surrounding her is not red anymore, it is absolutely black.
“What’s this?” I ask as my voice sound muffled from behind my arm.
Cole’s face is looking green like he is about to get sick. And even Wyatt is having a hard time keep the disgust away from his face.
“She used to practice black magic... the magic of evil,” Micah speaks, and I notice he is looking paler and weak, “Black magic turns the heart of the person black because they have sold their soul to the evil.”
He rubs his temples and walks outside the room.
I look at Cole and Wyatt questioningly because he seems a bit off.
“He is like this since Ivory has killed Emma.” Wyatt looks in the direction where Micah has gone.
“I have called witch Denise as Micah informed this place needs to be purified and also forbidden us to go near her body or to touch anything.” Wyatt runs his hand over his face. “Denise said that she will reach here by tomorrow.”
Witch Denise is an old and powerful witch, she was my great grand father’s friend and since then she has been always there for the pack and us, whenever we need her. However, she is a wanderer. That’s why we don’t meet her often and nobody knows much about her. In fact, it has been years, since, I have last met her.
“You guys, go home we will meet tomorrow morning.” I nod my head at them, “I will go and check on Micah.”
Stepping outside in the open air definitely feels good, after inhaling that putrid smell.
Looking around, I see Micah leaning against the tree. His eyes closed while his head is slightly tilted towards the sky.
He opens his eyes and looks at me when I approach him.
“Seeing aura is not easy.” He sighs, “Sometimes it messes my mind.” He jabs his index finger between his eyebrows.
“When the life left her body, there was so much evil in her soul that I felt suffocated and drained.” Closing his eyes, he shakes his head.
“Do you need anything which can help you?” I ask because I can see how much all this is taking a toll on him.
“Thank you, you are already helping me by being here with me.” He looks at me as a small grateful smile is present on his lips, “You are the second person, first being Ivory, who showed any compassion to me.”
And for the first time, I notice the vulnerability and loneliness in his eyes.
“How is she?” He suddenly asks, and I feel like he is trying to divert the topic from himself, but at the same time, there is genuine concern in his tone.
“Honestly speaking, I don’t know.” I shrug, as her lost look comes before my eyes. “I just knew she needed me.”
“What happened to her?” Slipping my hands inside my pockets, I glance at him because I am certain he is aware of what has happened back then when she had just snapped.
“I knew something like this is bound to happen soon as the darkness around her was increasing. ” He runs his hand through his hair, “Whenever she heals she takes a little darkness from the person. This darkness was gathering inside her for a long time and today it just reached its limit and it consumed her awakening her dark side. With light, there is always darkness. If the light inside her knows to sacrifice, then the darkness inside her demands blood.”
“The dark side of her is fuelled by her anger and the feeling of resentment. The power she gains from that is not like her usual power, it is dangerous and dark which can only be satiated when she has taken her revenge.”
“It is like the two sides of the coin, if one side of her heals and protects others, then other the side is vindictive and unforgiving.”
“You have said when she uses her power she sacrifices a part of her life.” I swallow as my throat tightens because it means every time she heals or protects her life decreases, “So, this power of hers can kill her?”
“Yes.” He solemnly nods his head, “That’s why it is necessary to gain your wolf back so that you both can mark each other again and revive your mate bond. Once she will be marked, then her life will be attached to yours, so every time she uses her power your wolf will heal her life source. As mates have the power to cure each other.”
“Micah, can I ask you something?” I take a deep breath, preparing myself to say the words which I have never thought I will ever utter because even thinking about them shreds my heart. But for her, I will do anything and bear any pain if it means she is safe, “If I don’t get my wolf back, I want you to mark her and accept her as your mate.” I meet his gaze unflinchingly.
I remember that day when he was sharing bits and pieces of his life with me, he has told me he isn’t blessed with a mate. He never shared why, and neither did I ask. Because having a mate is the biggest blessing, and I don’t want to hurt his feelings more by asking him about the reason why the Goddess has deprived him of this blessing.
So, if there is anyone who should be with her it should be him, he loves her and will protect her.
“It will never come to that.” He shakes his head, looking slightly stunned because of my demand, “We will get your wolf back.” He reassures me, sounding confident that he truly believes what he says.
“A part of your curse has been broken which was connected with Emma, now we have to find a way to lift this forbidden cast from you which is blocking your wolf and your memories.” He places his hand on my shoulder, “Donovon, there is a reason why Goddess has chosen you as her mate. And now I realize why because you are willing to sacrifice yourself, and your love, for her. Nobody can love her the way you do, not even me.” He smiles.
“But I promise you one thing, that I will always be there for her and will protect her in every way I can.” His words laced with determination.
