Chapter 74
The dark storm which was swirling inside me has calmed with her death.
When the thirst for revenge has been satisfied, a feeling of numbness spread through my senses. Opening my hand I let her now dead heart fall on the floor, as I glance at her disfigured body while blood flows from her body pooling around her.
What have you turned me into?
Unblinking, I stare at her lifeless eyes as my palms are placed on the bloodied floor. Somebody calls my name, but it feels like the sound of my name is coming from miles away... her cries drowning every voice around me.
What have you made me do?
Somebody gently places a hand on my shoulder, but I am unable to tear my gaze away from her, my fingers twitch feeling the wetness of her blood underneath them. Grabbing my chin and my face is turned away from her, as my eyes lock with a pair of grey eyes.
“Ivory,” Donovon calls my name quietly, trying to bring me back from the dark territory in which I have lost myself. “C’mon, stand up.” His tone extremely calm and his eyes hold softens.
I let him pull me to my feet as he wraps an arm around my shoulder and forces me to stand from my place. He holds me against him, not caring about the blood that is covering me.
When I try to look at her again, he turns my face into his chest and places his hand behind my head so that my face remains pressed against his chest.
“I am taking her from here.” He informs someone and my eyes close briefly, as the sound of his voice quietens the screams which are echoing in my mind.
I feel him walking me out of that room, as the stench of her blood dulls and the voices of the people talking around me die down a little.
Opening the door of the other room, he pulls me inside it and makes me sit on the bed. Disappearing from my sight for a moment or two, when he returns he holds my hand and guides me to another door which I assume is the bathroom. All my movements are robotic, I am just silently following him.
Closing the door behind him, he turns my body away from the large mirror placed above the marble sink in the bathroom.
His eyes never leave mine as he undresses me. The dress which I was wearing pools around my feet as he pushes it down my shoulders.
Picking me up, he steps into the shower as the blood starts to wash with the water running down my body. He puts me down and picks the washcloth and shower gel, then he starts washing me.
When he is satisfied that my skin is free of her blood, he turns off the water. Gently holding my face in his hands, he caresses my cheeks with his thumbs.
Leaning down, he presses his lips against mine in a soft kiss. Placing another kiss on my forehead, he pulls me out of the bathroom. After dressing me in a shirt that reaches my mid-thigh, he makes me lie down on the bed and pulls the cover over my body. A moment or two later he slips beside me in the bed after he has changed his clothes.
Pulling me into his arms and holds me against his chest as he kisses my hair.
“Thank you, Ivory.” Kissing my head, he murmurs against my skin, “You are my savior.”
His words snap me out of my numbness as I lift my eyes to look at him.
“I am not a savior.” I whisper, breaking my silence, “Look how I have killed her. And, strangely, I don’t regret anything which I have done. This makes me a monster, not a savior.”
"You did nothing wrong, she was the one who pushed you into becoming someone whom you are not." He intensely looks into my eyes, "She deserved it, Ivory." His words hold sincerity.
"She had ruined our lives, our Ella got hurt because of her-"
"You remember Ella?" I ask in a hopeful voice. Because it will not hurt me as much that he has forgotten all the moments we have shared. But him forgetting Ella and all those moments which he has spent with her will definitely pierce my heart.
"I do remember her, Ivory, I didn't let them take away my precious memories with her." He smiles softly, "They couldn't make me forget my daughter."
I let out a breath feeling relieved.
"They also can't stop my heart from loving you." His eyes roam around my face like he is memorizing me, "I was lost, but my heart lead me back to you."
Hearing these words from his mouth, a hope ignites in my heart as he has said something similar to me on my Luna ceremony.
"Do you remember everything?" I ask, searching his eyes for an answer. "What about your wolf, do you feel him?
"No." He shakes his head with a sad smile, "I don't remember anything from my past memories. However, I do remember everything after I have met you again. The moment I saw you, everything flooded back in my mind. Also, I can't reach my wolf, but now I am able to feel his presence in my mind."
"Honestly, I don't care about those memories anymore." He sighs, "Because now I have you with me and I don't want to focus on my past when my present and future is with me. We will make many more new and beautiful memories together."
"There is no longer any bond between us. Our mate bond has been broken." Biting my lip, I tear my eyes away from him as my heart sinks, "I am not your mate, Donovon."
Holding my hand, he places over his heart and sprawls his fingers above mine.
"Mate bond can be broken, but the bond in which our hearts are tied together can't be broken, Ivory." He lightly presses my hand, his heart beats beneath my palm, "I love you, Ivory, and breaking of the mate bond can't change how I feel for you."
"We may not feel the sparks when we touch, but our heart fills with warmth just by being with each other. We may not hear each other's voices in our minds, but we can understand the unspoken words of each other. We don't need any mate bond to connect us together, because our hearts beat with each other connecting our souls."
He places his hand over my heart while my hand is still feeling his heart beat.
"And this bond can never be broken because this is the real bond in which two hearts become one and souls intertwine with each other, binding two people together for eternity and beyond."
Closing my eyes, I let the tears flow from my eyes because this is what I always wanted to have in my life... true love. Love, which is not a slave to some mate bond, but love, which makes my heart liberate from every pain.
