Wolf Bond

Chapter 7

Donovon walks beside me as we stroll around his pack territory. The moment I realized he and Wolfie are the same, instantly, I start to feel comfortable around him.

I stop near the training ground and watch Jenna’s wolf training with some other wolf. Pride fills me when I watch her how effortlessly she managed to pin down the other wolf.

My eyes narrow when I watch two other familiar faces, as soon as, they catch my gaze, they start walking to me.

“Luca and Gavin, what are you doing here?” I ask the two wolves who are warriors of my pack.

“What made you think, Alpha Keller will allow his little Ivy to go without protection?” Luca wiggles his eyebrows at my frustration.

“I am sorry, but we are ordered to follow you wherever you were going and to make sure to protect you.” Gavin nods his head respectfully, “Then later bring you back to the pack safely.”

A loud angry growl erupts from Donovon’s chest which turns my attention to him.

He glares at the Gavin, who immediately shows his neck in submission along with Luca. Donovon’s hands are clenched into tight fists and his eyes are changing colors.

“Donovon...” I softly speak which gets his attention as his expression softens slightly when he glances in my direction.

“My wolf didn’t like it when he heard about they are going to take you away,” he speaks through gritted teeth.

The urge to calm him overtake my senses.

Wrapping my arms around his torso, I lightly rub his back trying to calm him.

He stiffens for a second then placing his arms around me, he holds me as I feel myself leaning more into him.

“It’s okay, but I can’t stay here forever,” I quietly say which makes him growl, “However, I will come to meet you often.” I try to make him understand that it will not be possible for me to stay here forever. Even though the thought of leaving him makes my heart hurt.

“No matter where I am I will come back to you, just like I came back even after all these years.” Pulling back I look at him giving him a reassuring smile, trying to reassure him and myself both.

“You can only go when I will allow to leave you.” He playfully growls and tightens his hold making me loudly laugh.

I wish that was possible, but, unfortunately, I am here just for two weeks then we will have miles of distance between us. The only good thing will be that this time, I can meet him whenever I would want to. As now I know where he lives.

“Can I ask you something?” Donovon asks with uncertainty.

“Yes, go ahead.” I pause eating the ice-cream which he had bought me from a small ice-cream shop.

“What if your mate doesn’t like our friendship then what will you do? Are you going to break our friendship?” He folds his hands behind his back while matching his stride with mine.

“Honestly, even I have thought about it,” I admit to him, thinking how many times I had this debate with myself, “But then the next moment my heart says to me that a true mate will understand what I feel for him and how much you mean to me. He will never ask me to choose between my friendship and our mate bond, because if he does then it means he doesn’t trust me.” Staring at the melting ice cream in my hand, I think how much it will hurt me if my mate would not trust me.

“He will know that he is the one for me and nobody can take his place. In the same way, he has to understand even nobody else can take your place in my life. I will never want him to cut ties with everyone because he found a mate. As before being my mate, he is a son, a brother, a friend I can never take away all these relations from him.” Glancing down at gravel path, I sigh and throw my ice cream in the nearest trash can.

“However, as I am promising my life...eternity to him, I would never accept his disloyalty to me. This will be the only thing that will make me break our bond.” I swallow, as my mouth turns bitter thinking about the possibility of my mate cheating on me.

Gently, holding my chin between his thumb and finger Donovon tilts my head up as he smiles at me. His eyes hold various emotions as his smile looks so genuine.

“Your mate is not stupid to go after some other female when he has found you. And trust me, he would never ask you to choose because whoever matters to you, will be important to him too.”

“Really?” I ask him, suddenly the invisible burden lifts off my heart thinking about whatever he is saying might come true.

“Yes, really.” He chuckles, nodding his head.

“Oh, I can’t wait to meet my mate, then I can’t wait to make him meet you and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my mate, and my friend beside me.” I clap my hand once and sigh happily while praying with all my heart that just like the dream of meeting Wolfie again turned true, my this dream also becomes reality one day.

Donovon guides me back towards our spot. He watches my reaction carefully when my eyes land on the picnic basket and a blanket sprawled on the ground.

"Did you do this?" I point at the small picnic in front of me.

"Yes." He sheepishly smiles at me, "I thought every time you bought something for me when we met here, so this time I should bring something for you."

"So, do you like it?" He asks nervously.

"I love it." I smile and take off my shoes as I sit on the blanket.

"You know when I used to think of meeting Wolfie again. I had this big list of things which I would share with him, but now when he... you are actually in front of me, I don't remember any of them." Leaning back on the heels of my hands, I glance at him, "All those talks seem useless, what matters is just this moment." I smile and shrug.

"Every night we used to come here." He mirrors my position as he sits beside me, "Every night for hours we used to sit here and wait for you to come." He stares ahead, while a hint of sadness present in words.

"When you didn't come here for three days straight, I got so worried. I thought maybe you are not well, something bad happened with you." His words laced with pain, "Your absence almost drove me and Storm crazy. It's strange how in just so small time he bonded with you, his bond was way stronger with you than it was with me."

Tears gather in my eyes, as I can understand his pain. Somewhere I was also going through the same feeling of hurt which he was feeling.

"Then the next day, I went to your house only to find it empty." He sighs, "After inquiring from some people I got to know that your family had left this place. Even though it didn't lessen the pain, still I was relieved to know that you were alright. Somewhere safe with your family." He turns to me and wipes the tear which has fallen from my eye.

"Even then your Wolfie dragged me here every night." He lightly chuckles, "More than me he had a firm belief that you will fulfill your promise and one day you will come back to meet him."

"Can I meet him?" I look at him.

"You are with him." He winks at me, as a playful smile settles on his lips, causing my heart to flip in my chest.

"You know, what I mean." I groan, trying to cover the blush which is appearing on my face.

He laughs as a warm feeling engulfs my heart hearing his genuine laugh.

He places a kiss on my forehead as he stands up and walks into the woods. His gesture creates strange feelings inside me, not single of them bad. Smiling to myself, I touch the spot on my head where he has just kissed.

Suddenly, a growl snaps me back from my thoughts as Wolfie pads towards me.

"Every time I see you, I find you even more majestic Wolfie." I admire his magnificent look, feeling proud to call him my friend.

I laugh when he puffs out his chest as he stands in front of me while his head slightly raised.

"Oh, you are so strong and powerful, Wolfie," I say in a mocking voice.

He let out a small whine which sounds like a complaint because of my mocking.

"You are such a goofball." I laugh at his whining.

But I let out a shriek when he suddenly plops down in front of me. His eyes have a mischievous sparkle in them.

Then without warning, he starts licking my face, making me growl and laugh both at the same time.
