Wolf Bond

Chapter 8

Donovon’s POV

After running the border patrol, in the morning to ensure the pack border is protected and no one can breach the border security, I return to the training ground.

Every day I train because I want to push myself to be better. My shoulders hold the responsibility of my pack. Each wolf of my pack looks up to me and trusts me, and as their Alpha, I can’t disappoint them.

After I have finished my training, I stay back to overlook the training of other wolves of my pack.

In our pack, everyone has to train. We start training even before we shift for the first time. However, after we go through our first shift then the real training starts where we learn to fight in both our human and wolf forms.

Crossing my arms over my chest, I watch different groups of wolves practicing different fighting techniques. My eyes focus on the group of newly shifted wolves where I watch warriors from Ivory’s pack, Gavin and Luca, voluntarily helping them in training.

This reminds me I have to talk to Alpha Kellar and inform about me and Ivory to him. From the few times when I have met him at Alpha councils, I find him a level-head and kind person. He is not arrogant as most of the other Alphas but he is very fierce and protective when it comes to his pack.

My shoulder feels the familiar weight and a small smile comes to my lips. Turning around, I watch my former Alpha as well as my dad looking at me with a small smile matching my own.

“Hey, dad.” I nod at him.

“So, how is everything going?” He looks at the training ground and instantly his eyes zeroes on Luca and Gavin.

He knows they are not a threat as if they were then they would have already been dead by now.

“Good,” I reply to him, folding my hands behind my back.

“You have increased border security.” He states, and I am not surprised that he knows this as even though he stepped down from the position of the Alpha still he looks after the pack and keeps eye on everything.

“Nothing serious, just making sure the pack border is protected as there was news of the sighting of rogues near the border of neighboring packs.”

“Good, we can’t take chances when it comes to the safety of our pack.” He nods, “I will myself run the border patrol once a day.” He says to himself.

I know nothing can stop him, because even though he has passed down the Alpha title to me, he is and will always be the Alpha of this pack.

“Your mother is worried about you.” He stares ahead as I stand beside him mirroring his position, “I have tried to make her understand but she thinks you and Emma are good for each other because it has been six years and still you haven’t found your mate and her mate has died.”

A growl erupts from my chest thinking about taking someone else as my mate and my Luna other than Ivory.

“I can’t.” Clenching my jaws I try to control myself, “I have found my mate.”

Dad turns to me even though he looks shocked but happiness is visible on his face.

“You have found your mate?” He places both of his hands on my shoulders and smiles.

“Yes.” Smiling, I nod my head as my anger starts to fade thinking about Ivory.

“But when and how?” He shakes his head, “Why haven’t you told us?”

“I have found her only four days back, I wanted to keep this news a secret because she doesn’t know that I am her mate.” A small sigh leaves my lips, “In less than two weeks she will turn eighteen, and I want her to experience this mate bond without the knowledge of me being her mate.”

“Is your mate the same girl that you have met years back?” His question sounds more like a statement.

“Yes, her name is Ivory.” I nod my head at the same time my eyes land on Ivory as she walks out of the house and quickly runs to a crying pup, who seems not older than four years.

“She is a spitfire.” Dad lightly chuckles, as he instantly recognizes Ivory, “I still remember clearly, how much angry she had become when I growled at you. Not even slightest afraid of the wolf which was ten times bigger than her.”

Even I recall the memory when I had run away from the house to meet her and Dad came to bring me back to the house, with his former Beta Richard.

“I had a doubt that she was your mate because your wolf was allowing her to be near him and the way he was protective of her.” He looks at Ivory with a fond expression, as she picks up the pup and settles him on her hip and march in the direction of the house, “But it was too early to say anything, that is why I and Richard never shared this thought with anyone.”

“I will go and tell your mom that you have found your mate, also I will tell her your wish, not to let Ivory or anyone else know about this until her eighteenth birthday.” He gives my shoulder a light squeeze.

“But be ready to bring Ivory for lunch, as I don’t think I can stop your mother from meeting Ivory longer than that.” He laughs and pats my back just before he leaves.

When I walk back inside the house, I find that pup sitting inside the kitchen eating ice cream while Ivory is telling him something.

The pup has a look of awe and admiration on his face as he attentively listens to Ivory.

Walking to them I stand beside Ivory, pup bounces in his chair when he sees me.

“Alpha...” He beams at me.

“Ice cream?” He offers his half-melted ice cream to me, making my heart fill with love as I can sense his happiness looking at his Alpha.

“Thanks, pup.” Smilingly, I ruffle his hair.

“Why were you crying?” I wipe the ice cream off his face with the napkin which Ivory has placed in front of him.

“You saw Ian crying?” He seems surprised.

“He is your Alpha, it is his duty to watch Ian and every other pack member.” Ivory smiles at him. “So, of course, he knows that you were crying.”

“No one teaches Ian to fight.” He frowns, “I want to be like my Alpha, strong and big.” His eyes held admiration when he looks at me.

“You love your Alpha?” Ivory smiles at him, but I don’t miss the way she discreetly glances at me.

“Very much.” He nods his head while opening his arms wide.

“What about me?” She pouts, “Do you love me?”

Holding my breath, I wait for his answer. Because even though he is just a pup, but I wanted to know what he thinks of his future Luna.

“I love you very very much.” He wraps his arms around her neck and hugs her.

“I also love you very very very much.” She picks him up and spins him around, as he loudly laughs.

While I can’t stop myself from laughing as I watch them.

When she puts him down and he comes running towards me and outstretches his arms while looking up at me, silently asking me to pick him up.

Leaning down, I carry him which again makes him smile.

“Alpha...” he whispers while cupping his both hands around my ear as if he wants to talk about something important but doesn't want anyone else to hear.

“Yes?” I nod my head, maintaining a serious face.

“Do you like Ivory?” He asks in a hushed voice, then turns his back to check whether Ivory is listening or not.

Even I turn to look in her direction only to find her cleaning the kitchen counter which makes me roll my eyes at her.

Stubborn girl.

I have told her many times not to do any work but she never listens.

It is her house, she can do whatever she likes.

Of course, Storm speaks up in her defense, making me roll my eyes at him.

“Yes, I do like her,” I answer him, ignoring Storm, turning my attention back to Ian.

He squeals happily.

“So, are you going to make her our Luna?” He looks at me with a hopeful expression.

“Can I trust you with a secret?” Keeping my voice down, I give him a serious look as if I am sharing a very big secret with him. Actually, that is not a lie I am sharing a very big secret with him.

“Yes, Alpha.” He nods his head with utmost sincerity.

“She is actually your Luna,” I say in a quiet tone and watch his entire face brightens hearing this, instantly, this brings a smile on my face.

“My luna?” He asks grinning happily.

“Shhh...” I place my finger on my lips, “Yes, your Luna, but you can’t tell anyone this to anyone, not even your Luna until I will ask you, okay?”

“Yes, Alpha.” He again nods his head looking serious. “I will not tell this to anyone.”

Before I can say something else Ian’s mother, one of the cooks of our packhouse, comes and takes him with her.

Slowly, I walk to Ivory and cage her between the counters and myself, placing my arms on her each side.

She yelps and turns around, as she looks at me with wide eyes.

“What?” She looks at me in confusion.

Lightly kissing her cheek while inhaling her scent, I walk away from her. Because the more I spend my time with her, the more it is getting difficult to hide from her that she is my mate.

“Be ready, today, we are going for lunch at my parent’s house,” I tell her looking over my shoulder, getting a glimpse of her bright red cheeks which makes me chuckle.

She is cute.

And you are a pervert.

Shut up!
