Wolf Bond

Chapter 68

When I wake up, I don’t find Ella in my room which instantly sends my heart into a panic. Rushing outside my room, I walk into the living room, and my breath catches in my throat at the sight before my eyes.

Donovon sleeping on the recliner with Ella in his arms.

Emotions clogged my throat constricting it, as bittersweet feeling sears inside me. This sight is painful and beautiful at the same time.

Forcefully, tearing away my eyes from them I look around to find the living room empty.

My feet drag me to them as I sit on the floor leaning my back against the couch opposite to the recliner. My eyes fondly look at Ella who looks so peaceful and comfortable in her father’s arms even Donovon’s face is adorning a tranquil expression.

I want to engrave this sight in my mind and my heart forever so that I have something with me to hold onto when things become difficult.

Ella wakes up and tries to raise her to glance at Donovon as she is making sure he is with her, then rests her head back on his chest cooing softly.

I know this cuteness will only last for a moment or two as then she will start roaring angrily. Because my pup can’t handle hunger at all.

Before she can wake up Donovon, I get up and walk to them. Gently, I try to pick up Ella but immediately Donovon’s eyes snap open as he grabs my wrist in a painful grip as he straightens up.

Fury blazing in his eyes while a protective glint shines through that fury.

I twist my hand in his grip trying to release it while my eyes stay locked with his. Anger drops from his eyes as now longing and disbelief are swirling in his gaze.

“Ivory...” He whispers looking at me like he can’t believe I am standing in front of him, “Ivory...” He repeats my name and numerous emotions overwhelm me hearing my name from his mouth.

It seems like ages have been passed since I have heard my name from his mouth.

“My Ivory...” He says quietly, as my eyes close giving a chance to a few traitorous tears to escape from his eyes, as the last memory of ours painfully grips my chest.

“You are here.” The disbelief in his tone forces me to open my eyes.

Suddenly, beads of sweat start to gather on his forehead as a wild look seeps into his eyes.

Quickly, I take Ella from his arms and look at him as he clenches his jaws while gripping his head in his hands.

It doesn’t take more than a moment for me to understand that they are trying to call him as he must have recalled something.

It seems like he might be physically present here, but his mind is caged somewhere else.

Ella squirms uncomfortably in my arms and starts crying which makes him blink and focus back on her. But then she let out an ear-piercing cry when Donovon's face scrunches up in pain as he grits his teeth together.

“No...please, no.” His broken voice tears my heart, “Please stop... I don’t want to forget her.” Leaning forward he rests his elbows on his knees and clutches his hair in his hands.

Anger consumes me watching his distress while I rub Ella's back to calm her cries.

"No."He growls angrily, "I will not let you take precious moments of mine, I will not let you snatch the memories of my daughter." He clenches his jaws as his chest rises and falls in anger.

Lying Ella on the couch, I place throw pillows around her so she doesn't fall.

"No." Donovon growl vibrates through the room, but strangely Ella cries quieten down as if she knows his father is fighting and he will never harm her.

"Donovon." I stand between his legs and holds his face in my hands, "Look at me." I order forcing him to raise his head to meet my gaze.

Tears stream down his face and my heart tighten painfully seeing him so broken. I wipe his tears with my thumbs as I caress his jaws and gently kiss his head.

"Voices are consuming my mind, I will forget everything," He manages to say, through clenched teeth. "They are going to take my moments with her from me."

"You will not forget anything," I say with determination, "I will not let them control you."

Leaning down, I press my head against his forehead as we continue to look into each other eyes.

"Just stay with me," I order softly, "Focus on me, not on those voices, Donovon."

He doesn't say anything, but I can feel him slightly nod. I call Fire forward as with her strength running through my veins warmth starts flowing through my body.

I hold Donovon securely and feel the warmth passing through us. Abruptly, the voices he is talking about starts ringing in my head. Some are high pitched, some are talking in hushed tones... all voices speaking at once sounding unintelligent.

The voices which are hurting him only seemed to annoy me just like a mosquito buzzing in your ear.

Something unlocks inside me when I focus on those voices... as my body burns with fury when I hear them calling him. I can sense the voices getting stronger, but at the same time, I feel the strength in me increasing as I push them back.

Slowly, the voices turn into shrilling screams but it brings a sense of satisfaction inside me instead of discomfort. But when I have enough of these voices, I channel my entire energy inside me and a wave of power emits through me silencing all the voices at once.

I don't know how I did that, but it just seems natural to me like I summon my wolf. However, this time I was summoning my powers along with my wolf.

Abruptly, all the power leaves my body and I slump against Donovon falling unconscious.

Cherry.

Last I hear, Wolfie's deep voice in my head before I completely lose myself to unconsciousness.
