The town was getting full to the point of exploding. We had supers from all over the country pulling in every day. Tom wasn’t kidding when he said he had some pull. My parents might have a council but Tom had everyone. They would not want this fight, but I knew they were too ignorant to think of these people as threats.

“That just leaves two groups unaccounted for and your sister,” I said to Mar as she got back with Harv from setting up the last house.

Harv was doing so much better now that Mar and I could change the flow of the curse that was put on him. Last time it only took fifteen minutes to go through the change and he didn’t even look tired when it was through.

“Who are we missing?” Mar asked kissing me as she walked in.

“A fairy named Leopold and an elf named Sonyea. Your dad insists they are worth their weight in gold.” I said.

“Well Leopold is, he can do magic on an old world scale. Mom helped him through a hard time when his wife passed over into the mists. Dad never explained what she did, but it was something like righting his chi and realigning his needs. I don’t know Sonyea.” She said.

“Apparently she is a warrior of extreme talent. She forgoes newer weapons and insists on using twin swords. She is like an elf version of ninja. I don’t want my parents dead, but maybe the threat of it will make them see reason.” I admitted to the woman who would someday be my wife.

“I’m sure dad has made that clear. I’m more worried about my sister. She was supposed to be in yesterday and she hasn’t shown yet and mom hasn’t heard from her since yesterday. I’m getting nervous.”

“You said she was the enforcer for the council, trust me when I say this Mar, she is not someone people will mess with. If she is late it’s because she is doing something of her own choosing.” I said knowing she really didn’t understand what enforcers did. They were the boogeyman of our world and if she was that good, that alone might make my parents back down.

“Ok,” she said smiling. We were into a deep kiss when a voice cleared its throat and we both jumped because we thought we were alone. The guardian stood there in his human form and looked us both over.

“Time to talk, where we can sit, I’m tired.” He ordered.

“My office,” JP said leading the way.

We all got in and got comfortable and we waited for him to start. “The president is going to issue an edict. There will be fallout. I can’t be everywhere so I will leave you two in charge here. I need to arrange more sanctuaries. This one is yours and bringing in more Supernaturals was a great idea, you will need them. All I can say is try and limit the casualties and hopefully we can get past this.”

“I don’t understand, what’s happening?” Mar asked.

“He is going to make Supernatural’s get registered and tagged. Before that can happen the other party will try and eliminate problems, which mean you and the rest of this town. There is a force being pulled together and they are getting ready to come here. You will be strong enough to fight them and some of my other places will not. I have to be there to help them.”

“So we fight humans and look even worse in the eyes of the rest of them?” I said outraged.

“They will have come to your town to hurt you. You are in the right, but it won’t matter, others will still blame you. I alerted the Sheriff and they are all onboard with limited casualties. They will defer to you two when the time comes. Just do what feels right.” He said standing.

“Why us,” I threw back. “My parents are here and they are stronger than anyone, so why Mar and me?”

“You both our more than you know. When the time comes you will understand but in the meantime, do what you can, and hold all the races together. I need to go now. There will be an attack on the coast in about an hour and they will need my guidance. Good luck,” he said and then he just faded and disappeared in front of us.

“Damn it,” Mar said and I agreed with her.

“I’m worried about Carolyn,” I said to my parents as I briefed them on what the guardian said.

“I am too, but we have to do what we can here and hope she is alright.” Dad said with his medical reasonable voice. I hated that voice. “So in essence the Guardian put you and JP in control that seems to trouble me with his parents in town.”

“Thank you, that’s what I thought.” I said thinking about it just the way he did. “JP asked him about it but his mind was made up. He explained to the sheriff apparently and everyone is on board.”

“Still seems weird,” Dad said thinking to himself.

“Here comes the president,” Mom said indicating for Harper to turn it up.

“My fellow Americans, we find ourselves at an unexpected division as we try to navigate the future. I am asking congress now to pass a law to have all Supernatural’s be tagged and catalogued so we can move forward. I ask that you show patience while we navigate this new and unexpected territory. I further condemn anyone one person or group from taking actions against any person, human or supernatural. We must learn to work together going forward and be one land. The fighting that is breaking out and the attempts to kill the supernaturals will be handled with the largest and harshest force necessary. Do not fall under the sway of others, stay home and learn to assimilate into this world that we all share. I will update you further as the legislation passes. Good day,” he finished.

“Ok that was a lot of nothing,” Harper said mad and I didn’t blame her. He could have just ordered everyone to stay inside and why did we have to be tagged and registered? Why didn’t humans have to be tagged? He was pretty much saying we were dangerous and needed controlling. I didn’t like this at all.

“I need to get with JP,” I said getting up from our breakfast area and Harper came around and hugged me. Damn it was nice having a friend.

“Stay safe Mar, and don’t risk yourself unwisely,” Dad said giving me that dad look of his.

I left and was halfway up the road heading for the warehouse when I heard a noise from behind me. I turned and saw two humans coming toward me. I couldn’t tell you how I knew they were humans but I did. One was holding a gun and the other was holding a bat. This was not going to be a good morning.

Two more humans came out in the direction I was originally heading. I was surrounded, yup, definitely not going to be a good morning. “Look,” I said feeling vulnerable, “we don’t need to do this. Why don’t you go back to your homes and we will forget this ever happened.”

“Sorry bitch, we are getting paid well to make sure you aren’t seen from again.” The one holding the gun said. They all looked rough and dangerous and to say I was afraid would not begin to touch my thoughts, but I was also getting pissed.

“Bitch huh, well if you want to see a bitch, well come on.” I said trying to scare them off.

A couple of the guys backed up but the one with the gun just laughed. “He said you would try and scare us little witch. We also know you have no magic. Get her boys,” he said and they began running toward me.

It had to be North. Why couldn’t he just leave me the fuck alone? JP I need you I thought to myself and like a lightning bolt I could feel him. It was like he was standing next to me and his magic filled me up inside. I had no idea what he felt but it felt like the most intimate thing in the world to me. Damn I was getting turned on as four men were coming toward me, um, not for them obviously.

I gathered the power inside me and then yelled and threw my hand out at the same time screaming “Conmoro.”

It was fascinating watching as the magic hit and they all looked shocked. Then they just stood there not moving. I stepped carefully out of the way the gun was pointing and walked to the leader of this ragtag bunch. It was like he was frozen. What a good spell. I had no idea how I knew to use that word, I just thought about what I wanted and there it was. This was all so weird, but in such a good way.

I plucked each finger carefully off the gun and took it away from him while he stood there motionless. Once I had that away from him I relaxed a little bit. I was tempted to kick all four of them in the balls. If it was Christmas time I would make their balls jingle, I laughed at my own thought.

Sirens were coming into hearing and I should find a way to let them know I needed a police officer too. I went reaching for my phone when I looked up to see JP hauling ass running toward me. Damn he was fine, and mine. I smiled and tucked my phone back away.

When he got to me he didn’t say anything and just grabbed me and kissed me hard. Damn this felt good. I should get in trouble more often. “Damn it Mar I was scared to death when I felt you.” Ok maybe I shouldn’t get into trouble more often.

“Sorry, I didn’t know what to do. I thought about you and it felt like you were beside me. I could feel you’re magic so I pulled and there it was. I used it and it worked.” I said trying to conceal my smile that I did magic.

“What spell did you use? They look frozen?” JP wanted to know and I did to.

“A word popped into my head and I screamed it, it was ‘Conmoro’” I explained.

“Detain, good idea, but how did you know?”

“I don’t know JP, just all of a sudden your magic was there and I knew which word to use. This is all happening so fast. What does it mean?”

“I think the guardian is right, things are changing. The sheriff will be here soon and you can release them. Maybe he will find out answers for us.

“Maybe, but I think it was North, from what these men said. JP he is seriously pissing me off.”

“Easy baby, I have you now.” He said wrapping his arms around me. We stood like that till the Sherriff did pull up and join us.

I released the men one at a time and they were all taken away by a different deputy and the sheriff stayed behind with us. “I think this was preemptive to the main force. This North guy really has it out for you.”

“You think Sherriff?” I threw back.

“We’ll have enough on him to get a warrant for his arrest after this. I’ll call you two if I need you but you better prepare because rumor is the main force is coming and we are going to be evacuating soon.” He explained and I blanched. This was so shit.

JP pulled me close and I let him. I needed to be held and I needed to be held by him. I just relaxed into his hold and I just let his love enfold me for a little while. I needed a break and when this was all over I hoped we could just have one.
