Chapter 50
"No no, you are getting it all wrong. Try again" he chuckled.
"Fuck it! I have been trying all day, I don't think I'll get it!"
"What you think doesn't matter. I know you can do it. Just try one more time"
"Whatever…" I said yawning.
Prince Ardelean has been trying to teach me how to hunt.
Lol funny how that was a reason we fought before and now, I'm actually agreeing to learn.
But I don't seem to have any choice. Since the day my Vamp side almost committed suicide, I have been crazy scared. Like what if it happens again, what if I kill myself? That is actually one of the reasons I decided to return to this place. Here, I can learn how to control my powers and I don't have to live in a foster home. Here I can pretend my mom and Kara never existed and this has always been my home.
"Are you going to get it, or should I do it myself?" Nick said, breaking my thoughts.
I stared at the prey, it was a little baby deer. Nick fed on its mother earlier so it's all alone. My assignment is to catch it and submit it to Nick since I don't drink blood.
Yet.
I took my stance once again as I monitored the little thing. After wasting enough time meditating, I finally pounced on it. Catching it with both hands.
"I did it, I did it!!" I screamed and clapped my hands in excitement. I was so excited I didn't notice that I have let go of my hold on the deer, who took the opportunity to run. and I was just clapping to my foolishness.
"I think that's enough for today," Nick said blankly. His greyish silver eyes shone under the dark sky.
"Thanks for the lesson!" I said, hoping he was not angry at my performance.
he raised his hands and waved them in a don't you worry kind of way.
Thank goodness, he doesn't seem angry, cuz the Nick I know can be a fucked prick.
Though he's really good at masking his anger under that blank, cold face.
"Let's go in okay?" Zaid said when Nick was out of sight. That's when I noticed that I have been staring at Nick this whole time.
We moved across the gardens and went straight into the castle.
Nothing has changed if you ask me. Those same old stares of disgust and anger filled the room. I get it that no one likes me, and I seriously don't care.
But I wish they would try to make it less obvious. It's freaking annoying.
Nick has warned them and even threatened that if anything wrong happens to me, they'll all have to answer him.
That was the most reassuring thing he did since I returned.
And even though he knew I was safe and there was no threat, he still insisted on me keeping Zaid as my guard. Of course, I didn't have a problem with that since Zaid is my dream guy and stuff.
"Let's go to the Prince's office instead," I said to Zaid who was at my front when I noticed he was headed towards my room.
Yeah, that's right, I have my own room. It's simple and nice but I can swear it's more luxurious than my room at home.
Nick decided staying in a cage like before wouldn't be right since I wasn't forced to stay here. He also made it clear that I can leave this place whenever I feel like it.
"Okay"
We walked to Nick's office, I pushed the door open quietly. Unintentionally dropping in to their conversation.
"What do you mean? I don't want that girl dead! I want her alive! we need that stone and you know that better than anyone general" Nick said, before turning his attention to where I was standing. And the rest did the same. It seemed like they were having a meeting and I just rudely interrupted.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to…". And I trailed off. I hate apologizing but thanks to this intimidating Prince, I've learnt to use the word sorry, more often.
"It's okay Kendra," he said so I turned to leave, glad he wasn't angry.
"Well well well, if it isn't the little princess" the general started, and the rest gave him approving looks.
I knew he was going to start taunting me. And this was my cue to leave before he even starts. But something in my guts wouldn't let me leave. I wanted to see how far he can go.
"Nick, your father will be disappointed if he finds out that you have been playing around with this little thing. There are so many girls in thi…" he added but his sentence was cut short by Nick's raging voice.
"And who said Kendra is here because I need a woman!" I can't believe that is what's on their mind the whole time.
"Then why do you have her here? Treat her special and even give her all the privileges she has?" He fired.
"That's for me to know general. Stay out of it" Nick said. There was no sign of anger on his face. Just that cold blank look.
"Your father wouldn't a.."
"Know your place general! Yes, you are like a brother to my father. But that doesn't give you the right to bring him up, or even stick your nose in my business. Now get out of my office before I lose my temper " he said.
"All of you!" he added, making the rest of the meeting members scurry out.
"We all see what's happening here, just make sure this wouldn't cause your down fall," the general, who didn't seem too scared said before leaving the room.
And just like that, I was left all alone in the room along with Nick.
He didn't say a word to me, and I wasn't expecting him to. I shouldn't have come here in the first place. I should have just gone to my room.
But I just felt like checking up on Nick.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know my presence will create such a scene," I said. Ughh, again with the apology, this is so unlike me.
He didn't say anything. He didn't even spare me a glance. What the fuck was going on in his head? I don't know. His unreadable expression is starting to get more and more annoying. I could feel he was angry though. Or maybe, my head is just making me think so because of the scene that was created.
I moved closer to where he was seated and asked "are you okay?"
But he didn't say a word, he seemed to be occupied with some work. So I just made myself comfortable in one of the empty seats.
"Were you guys talking about Kara?" I asked, and regretted it immediately. This guy was pissed and the only thing I brought up was my fucked up sister who is the reason for all our troubles.
.
I stood up and headed toward the door when I realized that he wasn't in the mood to talk.
By the way, Zaid must be waiting for me outside the room.
"Do you know how to use a sword?" Nick's voice echoed when I was about to leave the room.
"Uhhhm no?" I said, or rather, asked.
"Why don't we learn how to do that," he said as he walked toward me.
Woah! There goes it, another lesson with Nick, I kinda like learning new stuff. But the fact that this little lecture session might end with him yelling at me isn't something I'm looking forward to.
