Vampire Shadows

Chapter 32

We have been searching her room for hours now and we haven't gotten anything.

I'm using the opportunity to look around mom's room. I opened her closet and tried to remember how she looked in every dress I come across.

That was her type of clothing, dresses, no skirts or trousers, just dresses. And they make her look beautiful, with her full silky black hair and beautiful eyes, just like Kendra's.

"Are you okay?" Max tapped my shoulder.

"Yeah, I'm great!"

Lies.

He raised a brow, in a _seriously?_ kinda way. I shook my head approvingly then continued searching for the clues. I was feeling down and all, but we had a mission I don't want to bring more complications to our table with my emotional drama.

"You know you can go rest in your room if you're not comfortable.."

"No, I'm fine."

.

We just had a lunch break and the search is still futile.

We searched everywhere, her closet, the bathroom, every cupboard in the room, we even hacked and unlocked her safe! We checked under the bed, and we left no stone unturned. But still, there was nothing.

Maybe we are doing it all wrong.

Either we are not checking the right place or we are not checking the right way, I don't know which one though.

"This is hopeless." Josh who has been quiet all day said. It's unlike him to be quiet and it's making the search even more frustrating, his little jokes and cheeky attitude would have made this a little bit lively.

"We are not doing this right," I said, laying on the bed.

"No one said this would be easy in the first place. If aunt Amber was here things would have been way better." Max said, also making himself comfortable on the bed.

I wish my mom was here, just as max said, things would be easier. Since she would've been the oldest vampire and stuff. But those guys had to do wdat they did with her.

"We are never going to find anything if you all just lay around lazily." Josh said, causing me to roll my eyes. What's the use of checking, we are missing something and we won't be able to move any further if we don't find out what it is.

"Nice, your mom has a really nice taste for glass sculptures," Josh said, moving to the shelf where my Mom's tiny sculpture collection was. She has a thing for tiny sculptures made of glass, she had this collection since when we were kids, and she has never added a new sculpture to her collection. It has always been like this, no addition, no subtraction. It kind of ruins the whole idea of the collection since stopped collecting, so it's more like a shelf full of glass sculptures and nothing more.

My personal opinion though.

.

I stood up from the bed and walked towards the shelf, joining Josh who seemed really interested in it.

I have never paid attention to the sculptures, but now that I'm getting a really good look at them, I'm noticing the sculptures are really detailed and the carving looks perfect, with no flaw.

The first one was a building, like a castle, a really beautiful one, and if it was a real building it would have been a really big one. The second one was just a bunch of people standing together, it looked like they were celebrating something.

The third one was two men standing and their faces looked as if they were in an argument, a heated one.

"Every sculpture tells a story."

Josh moved to where I was and I could see that he understood what I was saying. He kept looking at the sculptures one after the other and we tried to explain what each one meant.

"Guys, I think we have better things to do, better than playing with a bunch of glass toys" Max who was going through mom's stuff said.

"This isn't an ordinary collection. It's trying to tell us something! Look, max, the first sculpture is a castle then happy people, then men arguing, the next one shows the result of their argument, war! and then it continues in that sequence, with the last one showing one of the men as the winner of the war!" I said, and even though it made sense, I still didn't see how it related to what we were looking for.

"Wait a moment, those aren't just people, kara you are a genius! These are vampires. And look, it's a story of the war, the attack on the white coven vampires, how it all began." Josh's words hit me like a rock in the head.

Of course, we haven't been looking in the right direction, the answers must be here.

"Look, at this one," I said, pointing at one of the sculptures, it's a man handing something over to another guy. Josh moved really close to it and after a few seconds of thinking, he said.

"Based on what they are wearing, this is the vampire king, and the guy beside it is a guard. A high ranked one. He's handing that stone to the guard."

"And look the sculpture, shows the king laying dead with a knife in his chest."

"Does that mean, the person he was handing that stuff to was our grandfather, and it's the stone?" Max said finally joining us, and reminding me that we are related. Ughhh

"Well, according to what Nathan told me, he was a trusted soldier. So I guess you are right."

"That means the stone was really with your mom, and it should be here somewhere," Josh said.

.

There we were, staring at the shelf in front of us, frozen like statues, wanting to find the clue, but once again, we were lost. When we were able to figure out the story a few hours ago, we felt like we would be able to find the stone within seconds. But here we are, without any progress.

"It's okay, we all know things aren't going to be easy, at least we found something, and remember, today is our first day on the mission." Max tried to lighten up the mood.

"How about we go for a hunt?"

"Yeah, that's a good idea" Josh exclaimed. It was getting dark outside, and since our house is located at the end of the city, I'm sure we'll find animals out there.

Max and I were at the door when we heard a loud noise. We turned around and saw Josh staring at the wall, his mouth wide open.

We moved closer in order to see what he was staring at.
