Chapter 39. Changed
Jack
The man that just prevented me to fully shift and that made Doreen gasp in fear, was someone that I didn’t know. Yet, because of his full black leather outfit I can safely assume that it’s a hunter, one of high ranking as well.
“Where is your King?” Dennis suddenly yelled and I was stunned to hear him ask that.
Dennis was rubbing his head, clearly annoyed by the fact that he was now the one to be able to hear every single person of the pack. He wanted this to happen, so here you go! One massive headache, as you ordered! He wasn’t anticipating the new feeling, but that’s what you get if you ask for something you can’t deal with! And because he has decided to do this, he is going to face a lot of trouble…
“He didn’t want to spend his time with something like this. I mean, you have presented his gift on a silver platter, so It’s an easy job for me to take it with me. Your pack shall be safe, for now.” The man said to Dennis and I growled at the fact that he called my pack to be Dennis’.
I don’t know what kind of deal Dennis has made with the hunter King, but I guess that if he doesn’t held up his end of the bargain, my pack could still be in mortal danger!
“And you!” He said in full smile. “What a specimen you are! I’m going to have my fun, trying to figure out how you work, from the inside out!” He said.
“Come down here and give it try, because I’m not going with you willingly!” I said while he jumped down from where he stood and I shielded Doreen from whatever he was going to do.
Doreen
Moments ago, I had heard a lot of people from the pack yelling towards Jack, at how he could have done what he did, how he was able to not have seen that their Luna, me, had been deceiving them. The hurt that they felt, I felt as well and it was giving me a massive headache. But suddenly, after a few moments, I had felt something snap when I lost the connection to them. I know that I hadn’t fully trained my mind yet to hear every single one of them, so the pain probably must not have been that severe compared to what Jack was feeling now. But he just stood there as if nothing happened to his mind, he’s just keeping a protective stance towards me, without letting anyone know what he is feeling now.
Dennis didn’t like what the man in black leather had said, but even so he decided to keep his mouth shut and left the barn with the five warriors. The bastard cheat of a Beta left us!
And he left us alone with the man in front of us.
I remember him as one of my father’s guards, he always had been standing on the top of the list to become my father’s right-hand-man and he also happened to be the one that tried to protect me from my view, when I had seen that my father had killed that man in the soundproof meeting room.
When he had jumped down from the rafters of the barn and he landed on his two feet, he just bended a little at the knees to show off what kind of strength he has in his legs, and then he then grabbed something from behind his back. And while inspecting the device, a cruel grin appeared on his face.
It’s a black rod, wide enough at the base for a good grip, but getting wider towards the tip. It was about fifteen inches long and when he pushed a little button on the base of the rod an electrical sound burst out, together with what looks like blue electric sparks that sprung out along the side of the rest of the thing.
“Hundred and fifty volts.” The guard said, while swinging the rod casually around. “A human body could be killed by only fifty volts, but as you are a little stronger than a regular human, I wanted to make sure that I had enough power to take you out.” He continued and fear struck me.
Everything that Jack had been planning to do, went through the drain the moment when the guard had appeared in the barn. So, we’d have to come up with a different plan to get us the hell away from this place!
I took a few steps backwards, giving Jack the room to fight if needed, but was met with the chest of some other hunter. My head spun around and I gasped from the number of people that were coming in through the door and windows of the barn.
There must have been at least twenty hunters here that were threatening our lives now!
Suddenly, I was grabbed tight by two of those hunters and releases a yelp from the sudden movement they made on me. One of them put his arms around my chest, clasping my arms tight against my body and as I wildly kicked with my legs, to get me some friction to free myself, another hunter had taken hold of my legs and they both dragged me outside the barn.
Before Jack was out of my sight, he saw what happened to me and wanted to rescue me and tried to shift into his bear, but while he was partially shifted, the guard had hit him with the electric rod, making Jack scream in pain!
Jack
I was only distracted for one moment, where I could see that those bastards were dragging my mate out of the barn. Her eyes showed nothing but fear and I was the one to blame for! If only I had killed Dennis the moment he had told the pack of Doreen’s roots…
Another surge from the electric rod ran through my body and I growled heavily. I could feel every nerve ending in my body twitch as the massive amount of electrical current practically burned me from the inside out. I even saw some of my veins blacken out underneath my skin!
The electricity prevented my body from shifting, so I had to fight this asshole off in human form. But as I had just been severed from my pack and had to feel two of those electrical surges already, my body was against me.
I lashed out on the hunter’s jaw and he stumbled backwards, making his fellow hunters step forward, wanting to help him out. But he held his hand up, for them to not proceed.
“Don’t worry men, this bear is nothing but a soft heap of flesh.” He said and chuckled along with it.
Upon shaking my head in annoyance and pain, I felt dizzy but still reached out towards him. I was trying to hit him in the stomach but received a blow to the side of my body in return. Then, when I looked upwards to him, he lifted the rod and I saw it coming down to my head, to knock me down again.
Doreen
Another terrifying scream from Jack came out of the barn as he was being tortured into submission. By now my tears were streaming out as I was afraid that they would continue their efforts, damaging him beyond repair, or maybe even do worse and kill him!
“Let me go!” I yelled towards the guards that held me tight against a tree, but they wouldn’t listen to me.
I heard the rod charge up again, sizzling in anticipation of releasing its current, before Jack hurled out another bellowing roar. My mind went darker by the minute they were torturing him, but I was still held tight. I couldn’t do a thing, as I felt the pain from Jack almost getting through to my own body.
My anger was rising up and only now I wished that I hadn’t listened to the ghost and hadn’t put on the necklace again. I needed the strength that the damn thing was preventing me to use! I wiggled my neck against the bark of the tree, trying to break the clasp again, as it had done before.
“Keep calm, just like your mate had said.” Suddenly the ghost’s voice sounded in my head.
“Keep calm?! He is being fucking tortured!” I yelled and the guards looked at me surprised, not knowing to whom I was talking to, as they apparently didn’t hear the voice talking.
“You can’t take off the necklace!” The voice continued, but my rage kept building as I heard Jack scream in pain again.
My muscles were trying to find their strength even though it was blocked, but still the guards had to restrain me with more strength of their own to make sure that I was still put in place.
“Why can’t I?!” I roared to the ghost. “What does it protect me from?!” I asked in anger and the guards started to laugh now, saying that I was going crazy, that my kind are ’cuckoo’ as one of them said while pointing to his head.
“It protects you from your fury.” She wailed and I was confused as hell!
I don’t need protection from my fury, I need my fury right now! I need my strength to fight these guards off, to help my mate from whatever fate he is going to face!
Suddenly, I heard loud laughs coming from the barn, letting me know that Jack was on the verge of giving up and that was my cue.
I stamped my boot on the foot of one of the guards, temporarily releasing his grip on my arm, for just a slight moment, for me to rip the necklace from my neck and throw it on the ground. Instantly, I felt a surge of energy rush through my body which made me aware of the massive amount of strength that I had gained the last couple of weeks.
With a strong kick to one of the guard’s stomachs and an elbow against the other guard’s nose, I released myself and started to run towards the barn.
My body had been energized by the fury that the ghost had tried to prevent me from using, and I was boiling with anger as I could hear another scream coming from Jack. I barged in through the door and everyone inside there looked with awful surprise towards me.
Don’t mess with a woman’s man!
I was heavily panting, standing there with legs wide spread, using the most awful angry look that I had and stormed towards the first guard that dared to face my wrath!
Jack
From my dazed visual sight I could see that Doreen had broken through the barn door and was now fighting off the men that were recently enjoying to test out their strength against my body.
At first I was proud of her being so strong, but there was something else as well, something that the witch had been trying to explain to me, something that could be utterly dangerous…
Doreen probably didn’t notice it herself as her rage was taking control, but her nails had turned black, the white of her eyes had turned dark, her once shiny black hair was now ruffled and pointing in every direction… but the worst of it all was, that this appearance isn’t natural, her fury isn’t natural...
Where is Bertha! Doreen has to be stopped before this anger consumes her completely!
A/n: Even when it’s my monthly time of torture, I could never get as angry as Doreen is now... Next chapter is called ‘Red Fury’... prepare yourself!
