Chapter 27
The officer frowned and shouted angrily.
Several officers, who were holding guns, moved to surround the people who had previously thrown stones and blocked
them
Even if they wanted to run, there was no escape. They were caught by the officers and handcuffed. When led to the police car, they even refused to own up to their actions.
“We’ll talk at the station. Luke and Henry, you both head back first. I’ll follow Ms. Vanderbilt, a police officer said.
She had just seen Samantha race. Samantha wouldn’t be so panicked unless something major had happened.
With that, the police officer put away her gun. She noticed that the people around were still looking at them with disdain. Nonetheless, she entered the car and drove toward the crowd, just like Samantha.
Although they didn’t know what the officers were doing, they knew they’d die if the car hit them, so they stepped aside. Some even threw branches at the car, unrepentant
At that, other officers trailed behind, except for the police car escorting the men.
Samantha arrived at a rickety iron gate, parked, and looked behind her. Jasmine was lying in the back seat, seemingly unconscious. Thus, she opened the window to let some air in. Then, she got out of the car.
The orphanage had long been empty of children, yet shouts rang out from within. It sounded like people were playing
cards.
Samantha kicked open the iron gate and walked in, yanking off the rusty chain on the iron gate in passing. It was as thick as a person’s wrist and roughly three feet long.
Samantha dragged the chains to the wooden door expressionlessly. Listening to the laughter inside, she gritted her teeth and kicked the door.
However, the door seemed to be locked from inside. Seeing that it was ineffective, Samantha kicked it again, several times harder than before.
The shabby wooden door couldn’t bear such a kick. At Samanther’s second kick, the door split down the center.
Naturally, those inside could hear the commotion behind them, but they all assumed someone else had come to play cards. They kept asking for another round.
However, the shattered door landed near their feet.
Having been interrupted, an old man in a floral shirt stood up and pointed angrily at Samantha. He fumed, “Who are you? How dare you make a scene on my turf!”
Samantha chuckled at his words and glanced at his finger coldly.
“When did this become your turf? Who are you? And where’s Abigail Lynch?” she asked back.
Samantha shook the metal chain in her hand. She resembled a vengeful spirit.
Intimidated by Samantha, the old man’s hand trembled as he pointed at her. Nevertheless, he still spoke calmly. “Why should I tell you? Why are you holding a chain? Where are your manners?”

Chapter 27
“Yeah, it’s obvious that your parents didn’t raise you well!” someone uttered.
“Her parents are probably not much better!” said another.
Clink! Bang!
“Ah! She’s going to kill us!” someone cried.
Samantha listened to those foul comments without saying anything. She simply gripped the chain and swung it toward the wooden table.
The wooden table met the same fate as the door. Even the stools were affected. All were split into halves.
Exuding a chilling aura, Samantha looked at the others, and their faces blanched. “I’ll ask again. Where’s Abigail?” she asked, looking unperturbed.
“What’s going on? What’s with the fuss? Oh my! Who broke my An arrogant and impatient voice came from inside. It was a woman in a pompous ensemble. Her face darkened when she saw the table she had just bought destroyed. Immediately after, she saw Samantha leaning against the entrance.
A sly look flashed across her eyes. She draped the silk scarf on her shoulders and pretentiously approached Samantha with her arms crossed to greet her. She said, “W
if it isn’t Samantha Back then, you were so determined to leave that I could not even stop you. Have you come to see me?”
Samantha glanced at Abigail. She suddenly smiled, her eyes cold
Seems like you’re still blind after all these years. Should I bring you to an ophthalmologist?” said Samantha.
The officer behind her, who had just arrived, almost smiled at her words. She mused, That’s our snarky chief!
In truth, these officers were from the Department of Special Investigation established in Astoria three years ago. Samantha was the chief of this department.
The Department of Special Investigation was similar to the Angevin Police Station. However, it mainly managed school violence and juvenile delinquency. Soon after its establishment, Samantha led the small team of officers to numerous accomplishments.
Within a year, it had become a place Astorians strived to join and was admired by many in Astoria.
The chief of the department was a mysterious and elusive figure. Every time they appeared, it was for a hazardous. assignment.
Even now, nobody knew for sure whether the enigmatic chief was still alive.
The officer came behind Samantha and looked at Abigail with vigilance.
When Abigail saw the officer, she put on an ingratiating expression and said, “Oh, I didn’t expect there to be officers. When I took over the orphanage back then, Samantha left with a huff. She was so adamant. It was tough for me, too. It’s been over ten years, and this is the only time she returned. I didn’t expect
Don’t bring me into this, the officer thought.
Abigail wiped her tears with her scarf, seemingly disappointed with Samantha
Samantha gave her a half-smile and said coldly, “If you keep talking nonsense, I might tear up your yard. And who gave you the right to ask the higher-ups to relocate the director’s grave so that you can turn this place into an amusement park?”
