Unveiling Samantha by Veronica Wright

Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Abigail was thrown to the ground. Despite her pain, she held her neck, coughing and gasping for air.

Without giving Abigail time to relax, the police hurriedly handcuffed her and took her away. ‘She would have died if it had been a bit later. How dare she play tricks under Chief Vanderbilt nose? She is seeking death! they thought.

After the police left, Samantha looked around at the people and kicked away the broken board at her feet before walking

out.

Once she went out, she turned to a policeman and instructed, “Take those people back for a drug test. Check whether they have taken or are taking drugs.

With that, Samantha left quickly. She had to go and check on Jamie’s tomb, hoping Abigail hadn’t taken action yet.

The policeman looked at his colleagues, and they exchanged glances. They rushed into the room and pointed their guns a the people, shouting, “Police! Freeze! Put your hands on your head and squat down!”

Everyone squatted down quickly, fearing the policemen’s guns might go off by accident.

Meanwhile, Samantha hurried to the wheat field. At the end of the wheat field, there was a raised hill. Her expression softened, and her eyes shone. She held the bag she had just taken from the car and brushed away the prickly wheat to move forward.

Soop, Samantha arrived at the tomb. She pulled out the withered grass on the grave, knelt on the ground, took candles from the bag, and lit them. She knelt there until the candles burned out.

After more than half an hour, Samantha got up and packed her things. Then, she went back the same way.

Jasmine had regained consciousness when Samantha returned to the car. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Samantha was fine. Seeing Samantha step into the driver’s seat, she stopped her, saying, “Sammie, let me drive! Where do you want to go? The research institute or… the Vanderbilt residence?*

Jasmine would have taken Samantha to the research institute without hesitation in the past. But now, Samantha was the daughter of the Vanderbilt family.

Samantha had just sat down when Jasmine eagerly stopped her. At the mention of the Vanderbilt residence, her dull eyes flashed briefly. She nodded and said, “Let’s go to the Vanderbilt residence. They will be worried if I don’t go back.”

Jasmine felt heartbroken, but she could tell the Vanderbilt family treated Samantha well.

Samantha realized she had been too anxious and knew Jasmine was afraid she would speed again. She got out of the car and sat in the back. Then, she closed her eyes and rested.

Seeing this, Jasmine was relieved. Given Samantha’s current condition, she dared not let Samantha drive. She had been on the verge of vomiting earlier.

Jasmine drove steadily, and Samantha slept soundly. One and a half hours later, they arrived at the Vanderbilt residence.

Samantha opened her eyes slightly and raised her hand to open the door. After exiting the car, she saw Conrad in a suit with a folder and seemed to have just returned from work.

However, Conrad’s eyes fell on Jasmine. He wondered, ‘Is this… illusion? The person in my heart is standing with Sammie in front of me right now?”

Jasmine felt eyes on her as soon as she got out of the car. She glanced over in confusion and met Conrad’s deep eyes. Then, she turned to look at Samantha with a puzzled look.

Samantha couldn’t read Conrad’s mind and shrugged helplessly. After saying goodbye to Jasmine, she headed for the house.

But before she left, Conrad suggested nervously, “Ahem. Sammie. It’s late, and

your

friend to stay for a night and go back tomorrow?”

it’s dangerous at night. Why don’t you ask

Samantha was startled and found something was wrong. Her eyes secretly wandered on the two. She figured Conrad liked Jasmine.

Enzo once told Samantha that when one liked somebody, one would use the people around as an excuse to get along with the person. She didn’t know if it was true, but the current situation seemed like what Enzo had said.

Samantha was also worried about Jasmine, so she nodded at the blank Jasmine and said, “That’s true. Don’t you fear night the most? You can leave tomorrow.”

Hearing this, Conrad breathed a sigh of relief. He didn’t expect Samantha to go along with him. It seemed his status in Samantha’s heart was higher than that of others.

“But, Sammie, it’s only five o’clock!” Jasmine said. In summer, days were long, and nights were short. It was still broad daylight, and there was enough time for Jasmine to go home. However, Conrad was Jasmine’s type. She wouldn’t mind staying for the sake of his looks. She pretended to hesitate and then nodded.

Seeing this, Conrad relaxed and smiled. Glasses were a good thing. At least they could conceal the triumph in his eyes.

Upon entering the house, they saw Kathleen busy in the kitchen while the servants surrounded her, looking worried.

Seeing this, Conrad knew Kathleen was going to cook. He frowned, handed the document in his hand to the servant beside him, and said softly to Jasmine. “Have a seat first. I’ll get you coffee.”

Bailey wondered. Is the coffee on the table a decoration? But then, she realized Conrad had fallen in love with Jasmine. Thinking of this, she felt happy for Kathleen. ‘So, Conrad isn’t an other-worldly ascetic. He just hasn’t met the one he likes,” she thought.

Samantha just watched quietly and sighed deeply. As the saying goes, love makes people dumb, she mused.

Samantha sat down with Jasmine, poured a cup of coffee, and handed it to her. Jasmine took the coffee and sipped cautiously.

Samantha paused. She had never seen Jasmine, who was always carefree, so restrained. She wondered if it was because Jasmine had changed clothes. After all, such a situation hadn’t happened at Zachary’s house before.

The next moment, Samantha understood what was going on. Hansel and Rafael had come from behind and moved chairs. to sit beside her. They stared at Jasmine and hesitated to speak.

The deadlock was broken when Conrad walked to Jasmine with coffee. However, he saw Jasmine holding a cup and looking at the cup in his hand in confusion.

Seeing this, Hansel pointed at the cup in Conrad’s hand and asked confusedly. “Isn’t there fresh coffee on the table, Conny? Why are you”

Conrad stammered, “L-Let’s not talk about this.”

Hearing this, Rafael kicked Hansel and thought, ‘He’s been through it. Why didn’t he notice it? The lifelong bachelor is falling in love! I’ll have great-grandchildren soon! Rafael knew Conrad wanted to make coffee for Jasmine himself. He had

watched Conrad grow up and knew his personality well. Rafael couldn’t help laughing, his beard fluttering.

Noticing Jasinine’s puzzled look, Rafael waved his hand. He glanced at Conrad and then at Jasmine and laughed again until his face flushed. Then, he got up and patted Hansel on the shoulder.

Hansel understood. After Rafael left, he couldn’t hold back his curiosity and asked Jasmine with a smile, “Young lady, what’s your name? How did you meet Conny?”

Jasmine was dumbfounded. So was Samantha.
