Chapter 21
Adelie POV Convincing Asher to go apologize to Cynthia yesterday wasn't an easy task, but I'm glad that he eventually agreed. They may start dating anytime soon because I will make sure of that. Staring out through the window of my office, I sigh briefly and check my wristwatch for the sixth time, wondering why Cynthia is not yet in the office at this time. We always come here at the same time, but Asher went to see her today, so I was expecting her to get to the office real quick since he will be dropping her off. Well, don't bother racking your brain how I knew about that, because I planned everything. After the incident that day, Cynthia has refused to answer my calls, and although I have been there a couple of times to see her, she never wanted to see me as she kept avoiding me. She even went as far as taking a few days off from work. I know I shouldn't have persuaded Asher, knowing that whatever he said to her didn't come from his mind, but I can't allow my only friend to continue to suffer like this, right?
Finally, I spot Asher's car outside the gate, and I expected Cynthia to come out of it. Five minutes passed, and I begin to wonder why she's taking so long to come out of the car already. Finally, I stride out of my office to go check on her, and just when I arrive downstairs, I find them kissing inside his car, and I slowly clench my fingers as anger spurs through me. I'm not angry because they are kissing, but for fuck's sake, this is too early. I know Asher, and I'm sure he's going to hurt Cynthia eventually. I only fucking asked him to apologize to her and bring her to the office, I never asked him to kiss her, did I?
"That bastard!" I grunt angrily, and just when I'm about to go over to drag Cynthia from there, she finally steps out of the car, grinning from ear to ear. If only she knows what she's getting herself into, then smiling would've been the last thing she would do.
She smiles at his car until he drives away, just like a teenager that has just fallen in love for the first time. She finally turns to walk into the company's compound, but she stops and flinches, holding her chest.
"You startled me, Adelie," She holds her chest, breathing heavily.
"We need to talk," I say to her instead, turning around to leave.
"What happened? Did anything happen?" She questions me as she walks behind me, but I keep walking, not even sparing her a glance. We finally arrive at the female restroom a few minutes later, and I slam the door close as soon as we both walk inside.
"Is everything alright?" She asks, looking a bit worried.
"Everything is not alright, Cynthia. How the hell is everything supposed to be alright when you were inside the car, kissing my brother like you both are a thing already?" I snap at her, and she stares at me blankly.
"What are you talking about?" She asks, looking confused, and I sigh briefly. I shouldn't have spoken to her in that manner, because it would seem otherwise.
"Why were you two kissing?" I ask her calmly this time, and she scoffs.
"What are you saying, Adelie? I have a crush on your brother, and you know that. Or should I rather say that I am in love with him? I..."
"I know you're in love with him, and I'm not trying to dispute that fact, Cynthia. Remember what he said to you..."
"Oh, is it about that? He already apologized and told me he would make it up to me. I think your brother was just in a bad mood that day," She smiles at me, and I run my fingers through my hair crazily. She's fucking driving me nuts. How the hell can she be so clueless? I mean, how can she think that the guy that called her names and rejected her a few days ago would change so soon?
"Why are you looking so pissed? Is there anything you're not telling me, sweetie?" She asks me curiously, and I shake my head. How can I possibly tell her my brother is a bad person? She would think that I'm crazy, and won't even believe me. She's so madly in love with him that she won't even believe me, anyway.
"Nothing... You just have to thread with care, Cynthia... Don't get overly comfortable around Asher, ok?" I say to her, expecting her to understand the rest.
"What do you mean?" She asks, but I only pat her shoulder.
"I need to get back to work now," I say to her, leaving the restroom afterward.

Stepping into my office a few minutes later, my phone suddenly starts ringing, and I quickly answer it when I see that the caller is dad. Why's he calling me?
"Hey, dad," I say to him, sitting on the chair.
"Hey, sweetheart. How's work going?" His voice sounds through the phone, and I nod my head.
"Work is fine. Is there a problem, dad? I just left the house barely an hour ago, why are you calling?" I ask him curiously.
"I called to remind you about what we talked about earlier. Invite your boyfriend over for dinner," He says to me, and I sigh briefly. Oh, right, I forgot he asked me to do that, and I feel this is not good. I mean, I don't want him to meet my parents yet, but what am I supposed to do when they desperately want to meet him?
"Alright, dad. I will do that," I reply to him and drop the call before him because I'm not ready for some random talks this morning. I have so many works to do today.
Glancing over to Raymond's office, I sigh briefly and throw my head back. He's not yet in the office. He told me earlier that his mom wasn't feeling too good, so he took her to the hospital. I wonder how she's doing now, and I wonder the time he would get back to the office. I'm already missing him.
Speak of the Angel, the door suddenly opens, and I raise my gaze to see my handsome boyfriend, looking as hot as usual.
"Did someone miss me here?" Those are the first words he says to me as soon as he steps inside the office, and I smile at him shyly.
"Good morning," I greet him, and he rolls his eyes.
"Come here," He gestures for me, and I stand up reluctantly, walking over to him afterward.
"Good morning, sweetheart. Did you sleep well?" He wraps his right arm around my waist and pulls me close to himself while removing the strand of hair on my forehead with his left hand. "Hmm," I nod my head.
"Did you miss me?" He asks me for the second time, and I find myself nodding my head to his question. I can't deny that I really miss him.
"I'm sorry, I had to spend some time with mom to be sure she's fine before I left. I had to hurry here immediately," He explains to me, and I nod my head. "How's her health now?" I ask him.
"She's pretty good now, and may be discharged tomorrow or next," He replies to me, and I nod my head.
"Is there anyone staying with her there?" I ask, concerned.
"Yes. My little sister is there," He replies to me, and I pull a puzzled look. He never told me he had a sister. Well, we haven't really known each other much though. "Alright," I nod my head.
"Uhm... My dad is asking you to come over for dinner tonight if you're free," I say to him nervously, and bite my bottom lip. For some reason, I find this embarrassing...
