Chapter 22
Adelie POV
The rest of my day at the office was filled with me working as usual, and it was finally closing time.
I wait in my office for Raymond to finish up with work, so we can go home together since he'll be coming over to my place for dinner. After waiting for what seems like forever, the door finally opens, and he walks out with the most usual cheerful smile lingering on his face.
"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting, baby. I was talking to a client of mine," He explains to me, and I slowly nod my head.
"It's fine. Can we go now?" I ask him as I pick up my bag from the desk, and stride over to the door.
"Sure, we can," He winks at me, as he walks over to me, and we leave the office together.
Stepping into the elevator a few minutes later while holding hands, we meet some of the staffers inside, and I feel a bit uncomfortable. I wanted to remove my hand from his grasp immediately, but his grip around me tightens, and when I raise my gaze to look at him, he shakes his head.
I can feel the staffers' gaze on us, and I bet I know what's going on in their minds right now. Gosh! I feel like disappearing into the ground and never coming back here, but Raymond doesn't even look bothered about it.
My dream finally comes true as the elevator rolls open, and we walk out of it.
Finally stepping out of the company a few minutes later, I stop on my track when I spot Asher, leaning against his car with a sunshade glass resting on his nose. For fuck's sake! Who wears that kind of glass at this time of the day? It's already dark for goodness sake. Well, that is not my problem now, but what the hell is he doing in the company?
"Excuse me, please," I excuse myself from Raymond and walk over to meet him outside the gate where he's standing.
"Looks like my sweetheart is having a nice time with her boyfriend. Fuck! I don't want to be jealous, but I can't help it," He clicks his tongue, before turning his gaze to look at Raymond, who is leaning against his car and waiting patiently for
me.
"What are you doing here?" I ask him, and he scoffs..
"I have only seen him once and it was in the night. Tell me, is he more handsome than me? Is he sweeter than me? Did he do anything to you behind the walls of the company?" Now, he's sounding jealous and angry, even though he wants to hide it.
"Stop being crazy now, Asher. I asked what you are doing here," I repeat my question, but he only shrugs.
"I'm doing what you asked me to... Is there a problem?" A thin line appears between his eyebrows as he stares at me like he wants to see through me. He doesn't need to say less before I would understand that he's here because of Cynthia. "My eyes are on you, Asher... You better not do something to harm my friend," I threaten him, and he smirks at me.
"For your sake, I will be nice to her. Don't just let that bastard touch you, if you don't want to see the other side of me," He says to me, and I know that those words are not just an empty threat. He fucking means everything he's saying right
now.
"Asher..."
"Tell him to behave himself later when he's at the house. I may end up committing murder if he tries shit with me," He says to me before he turns his gaze above my shoulder, and a smile laces up his lips.
"Here comes my pretty girl," The way he smiles at whoever is coming behind me tells me that it must be Cynthia. Wow! Asher is not only a flirty bastard that does abominable things but also pretends a lot. How the hell did someone like him become my brother?
"Adelie... I checked your office, but you weren't there," Cynthia says after she hugs Asher.
"Yeah, I left quite early. I'll leave you two now. I need to attend to something at home. See you at work tomorrow," I say to her, and glare hard at Asher before I turn and leave them.
"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting," I apologize to Raymond once I get to where he's standing, but his gaze is strictly focused on Asher, who just hopped inside his car with Cynthia.
"Oh, sorry for not introducing you two. That's Asher Williams, my elder brother," I say to him, clearing his doubt.
"Wow! Haven't really met him," He says, turning his gaze to me.
"Yeah, he hasn't come here to pick me up since I started working," I reply to him, and he nods his head.
He finally pulls the car door open for me, and I hop in. A few minutes later, he drives out of the compound, and soon we are on our way to my house.
As he drives down the busy road with vehicles parading around, I only stare out through the window as many thoughts cloud my mind. I'm scared, and I don't want to deny it. I'm scared things might go wrong with Asher around, I'm scared he would do something stupid as usual, and maybe make Raymond doubt me.
"Are you ok, babe?" Raymond's voice pulls me out of my train of thought, and I tilt my head to look at him. I smile at him faintly, as I nod my head.
"You look nervous," He says, placing his right hand on mine while focusing his attention on the road.
"Don't be, ok?" He assures me, and I slowly nod my head. I feel a bit relieved.
We finally arrive at the front of the gate twenty minutes later, and he drives in. We proceed toward the entrance door as soon as we hop out of the car, and step inside the living room, the aroma of delicacies welcomes us. Mom must've taken out her time to make the food.

"My sweetheart is finally here. I have been waiting all day for you," My mom who was in the dining room when I came inside, walks up to us, and pulls me into her arms, embracing me like it has been so long since she has last seen me. "Good evening, ma'am," Raymond greets him politely, and she leaves me to stare at him in awe.
"Wow! You're so handsome. You're welcome to our humble abode, my dear. Adelie has told us so much about you," Mom blurts out excitedly, and I roll my eyes.
"Thank you, ma'am. I'm glad to be here," Raymond replies to her with a wide smile playing on his lips, just like the gentleman he is.
"Oh, my goodness! You're so cute," Mom gushes over him, and I turn my gaze away embarrassingly. Can she just keep it down, please? "Thank you, ma'am," He replies to her politely.
"Such a gentleman. I bet you've chosen a really sweet man, Adelie. I'm so proud of you, honey," Mom pecks my lips, and I sigh briefly.
"Come on, here. I made something sweet for you, sweetheart. The dining room is this way," She grabs his hand and leads him to the kitchen, while I just roll my eyes.
"Mom, I will take change my clothes upstairs and come back. I'll be back, Ray," I say to them before I leave for my room.
Dragging myself up the staircase tiredly, I finally made it to the hallway, and as soon as I arrive at the front of my room, I push the door open tiredly.
"Welcome home, sweetheart," The voice I would always recognize even in my deep sleep speaks behind me, and I turn swiftly to find Asher laying on my bed. What the hell! When did he get here?
