Unknown Life (1) (Editing in Progress)

Chapter 6

The leaves on a nearby tree soon turned to different colours and the air started becoming cooler almost a bitter cold. Indicating that fall had arrived and the seasons are changing. Also, another thing, it reminded me that I been here for more than a few weeks which somehow turned into a month. But for some reason I felt I belonged here hardly knowing the difference. The scenery especially in the fall changed into a completely different world especially with the clouds that covered on the ground for a bit.

So, I decided on taking a stroll through out the grounds and eventually found myself at this unique fountain again, admiring its beautiful structure. The water sounded like a mini waterfall it was blissful to my ears. The water seemed to be crystal clear as I leaned over and looked down at the bottom. The foundation was little white peddles almost representing a sand from a beach. I started craving to go in and just have my feet touch the water, but I hesitated. Was I even allowed to step foot in it, as I never saw anyone really stand or do anything in it except I didn’t see anyone around.

The first base was big enough to hold a crowd almost was welcoming people to step a foot in.

Screw it I thought.

I took off my shoes and stepped on the edge of the shallow pool and balance on my right and dipped my left foot in. Embracing what I thought at first was coldness but instead it was instant warmth. A bit surprised I put my foot in a little deeper and it was nice, till I eventually put my weight on it and was touching the bottom. I took my other foot off the edge as it weighed nothing and now had both feet in the water. I soon started wading around creating little waves as they began lapping up my ankles. It was soothing and allowing my mind to forget the world. I stared splashing around like a child at the water park. I twirled around and was going to head out of the pool when I saw Wolf smiling and laughing at me.

My cheeks flushed red and I stood there frozen. How long had he been standing there and why was he standing there? A simple ‘hey, how are you doing’ would have been nice warning.

“What?” I asked.

“Nothing…I just find it entertaining that you’re just minding your own business in a public place… and the fact you chose to do it in the evening..” he snickered while putting his hands in his pockets.

I opened my mouth but closed it as I was embarrassed but somehow other words came out of my mouth, “I was curious about this fountain…” I looked back to it in wonder, “there just something about it” I said and realized I was still standing in the water as cool breeze came by sending small shivers down my spine.

Wolf looked up to it too and nodded in agreement, “Yeah there is usually a connection that immortals have to Kadea. I don’t fully understand it…but yet again I am a Lycan and we have some mysterious god,” he replied smirking.

I stared at him almost wanting to laugh, though I have been itching to ask him something for a while now.

“Can I ask you something?” I sounded hesitant yet confident.

He gave me his undivided attention, “What’s up?”

I waded in the water towards him, “for a guy who is a Lycan on a floating island surrounded by Immortals, doesn’t that make you feel uneasy a times?”

He pressed his lips together and nodded to some agreement, but I am not even sure if he was agreeing or contemplating.

“You” he pointed at me, “Have a valid point, yes it does make me uncomfortable being the only Lycan here but the Warriors of Kadea have made it quite easy for me. They don’t treat me like anything else just one of them.” He concluded.

I hummed in agreement and came to the edge and tried gracefully getting out but almost struggled as I grasp how could it was with my wet feet. Wolf suddenly at the edge and held out his hand for me. I grasped it and instantly familiar warmth soothed me. He helped me balance and brough himself to a crouch down grabbing my shoes and presented them to me. I smiled and whispered a ‘thanks.’

“So, what are you doing out here?” I gathered myself together sitting on the edge while slipping my shoes on.

He sat across from me on the stone bench and shrugged, “just like you going out for an evening stroll it’s nice to gather my thoughts when it is quiet and peaceful out”

I nodded in agreement and studied his crown forehead tattoo which I have been doing largely. It was something unique almost like a crown that has the intricate design of spirals, it didn’t overbear his forehead but did give enough that to show that it was there and existed.

“Staring at my tattoo… I believe that is what you call it?” he said, breaking me from my trance.

“Uh yeah” I confessed and red in the cheeks again.

“It’s okay” he reached out towards me but didn’t touch my knee, “it is normal for others to stare at a Lycan’s mark.”

I only breathed a sigh and looked at him again and he was staring at me right in the eyes and instant warmth flooded my body. His gaze was soft and he smiled again. The air between us was somehow different and all I knew was to just sit there and enjoy his presence. We were silent and it was comfortable silence and understanding for something.

“I am sorry,” I suddenly piped up.

He scowled his eyebrows at me in confusion, “about what?”

“I honestly don’t know.”

He tilted his head at me but shrugged again and straightened himself on the bench.

“You know you are pretty handsome” I blurted out and smacked my hands over my mouth with wide eyes, that was supposed to be an eternal thought.

He gazed at me amused again,” is that so? How handsome?” he cocked his head again and smiled.

Instantly the air felt different but I couldn’t describe it and bit back.

“Don’t get cocky with me Wolf” I warned trying my best to rescue myself from this situation.

He started laughing at my failed attempted of whatever I was trying to do.

“Don’t be a dick” I retorted, “are you making fun of me?” I questioned and readied myself to walk away from this embarrassment.

“You are funny and no I am not making fun of you…it just kind of funny how you are trying to save yourself form a little statement.”

I opened my mouth bud closed it, he had a point.

“You are an ass” I joked and making my way, walking away.

“Wait” he begged an grabbed my hand shotting a mild electric current up my arm. I turned to him and saw how the light from the fountain make his eyes look enchanted.

“I am sorry,” he said looking at me sincerely.

I smiled, “I have only known you for a while but you do seem like a decent guy,” I spoke giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I sensed for some reason that he bit inside his lip and raised himself onto his feet no towering over me a bit. I didn’t get a strange urged to run but a feeling I was being protected.

He pointed to the fountain, “chill in the fountain till midnight?” he offered.

I looked at his hand then at him, he truly did want to make up for what happened in this conversation. I bit my lip and looked behind him at the fountain. I nodded and eased up.

We both took off our shoes and stood at the edge of the shallow pool. He hopped in splashing me up to the knees. I followed suited by jumping in and splashing him almost above the knees. He then took a couple steps away from me and started splashing me again with his foot, as I was getting soaked to my waist. I screamed at the sudden shock and soon laughed.

I bent down cupping the water and threw it upwards towards his face which only reached just below his chest. He started laughing as did I. Once in a while there would be a breeze and I would only shiver for a moment as it was getting colder out but the water provided some warmth.

Wolf and I played a bit more splashing each other till we heard the chimes of bells indicating that it was midnight. We gazed at each other almost not wanting this moment to end.

We stepped out of the fountain but Wolf was a gentleman and helped me put on my shoes letting the warmth enclose around my feet. He offered his arms to me and I took it without hesitation. I was starting to like him. We walked the path to the girl’s dorm and the entire time I felt safe with him. It was silent between us but a good silence. I just listened to the clatter of our shoes as they hit the rocks below. When upon arrival at the dorm. Wolf stopped me at the huge doors and looked at me as I did with him.

“I hope you have a good night rest and you have free time tomorrow. I would like to hang out again,” he said and his voice soothing.

“I would like that too…thank you for walking me” I replied.

Suddenly a shock, he leaned forward and kissed me on the cheek and second later was gone. Leaving me there a bit stunned.

I turned and started for my room where I found Emily in her bed sleeping calmly like her life wasn’t hard to deal with. I jumped onto my bed and laid there awake, there for a moment as all I could think about was what type of good bye that was from Wolf
