Unknown Life (1) (Editing in Progress)

Chapter 5

Waking up from the previous night experience made me feel a little hazy and uncomfortable. Though I didn’t ponder it as much when Emily started raiding through the room and throwing some things around. Probably indicating I needed to get up. I looked at the clock and realized I’d slept in and had only an hour to get ready and get across campus.

I flew out of bed and threw on my clothes not caring that I may look like trash, it didn’t matter. What did matter was heading to class on time and not getting scowled for being late.

We grabbed our bags and ran fast as we could towards class, following the path, it was familiar to me. Our feet clanked against the stones like a herd of cattle running on cobble stone. We were loud almost like hooves pounding the ground. Eventually we arrived just as the prof was about to start the lecture. We hustled into our seats in the most inelegant way possible with little snickers from other students behind and beside us.

“Hello class, welcome again to our lecture, today we begin more about the topic of elements,” Prof Valdis spoke in her usual smooth way.

“Immortals are particular unique creatures, they are not humans obviously, but are much different to others such as Lycanthropes, Giants, Fairies, Mermaids, Goblins, Elves and Trolls. As they do possess power like Immortals do though” Professor Valdis drifted off. “But other creatures do possess their own unique powers just like Immortals. Every creature has their own unique set of powers, it does separate us…but it also units us. For example, Fairies have the power of elements but also have the power to enchant people, good or bad luck.”

She strolled to the board lifting her hand and the elements appeared on the board.

“With the elements are the most common one for your generation right now is water and fire, the uncommon is spirit. If you possess one of the four elements it means you are part of the ancient family realm that possess those powers,”

“Basically, there are different realms for all element and they can become very powerful, just like we spoke about other the day, needing your jewelry to help challenge safety your power.”

I scrunched my face and started to think, allowing my mind to wonder off as I thought about what power I would receive. My first thought was water, the ocean was beautiful and it could become very powerful. Letting it become to greatest weapon.

Earth could work since we are surrounded by it in the first place. I could just bring my hands up and roots could appear allowing nature to grow.

I wasn’t really set on fire as my fear, things could go very wrong also considering it may be hard to understand the flow of heat. I was not betting on myself. I mean it is nice coming to practical way of thinking about it.

Lastly air, which in my honest opinion, I do not think will be much use for me. I mean there was wind, and it could manipulate weather. But that was as much I could think about it.

Slowly I brought myself back to the classroom while Prof Valdis was still speaking though she was on some sort of topic but different context.

“—except not all immortals can receive the powers of the elements, because apparently there are powers that yet to be discovered.”

What was she talking about?

“The reason they don’t is because some power have not yet existed.”

What?

“Such powers need to be discovered, and we still don’t understand the reasoning for this,” she strolled back her desk, “Sometimes they are discovered by accident.”

Now I was confused.

“Alright we are finished” the chimed bells rang.

We all readied ourselves with the noise of shuffling papers and scraping of chairs, Emily and I made our way out the class and towards combat tactics.

“So, Emily,” I started off as we walked down the corridor.

“Yes?...”

“Is your families power unknown?” I asked considering she hasn’t shown or said what her family possessed. Also, that fact she is not wearing a necklace or wristband to indicate she has powers.

She laughs, “No, and you would think my family would know by now but apparently our power is unknown.”

“How do you find an unknown power?”

“Didn’t you listen?” she continued, and I shrugged yeah, I should have not asked that.

We arrived at combat class and did the usual dress up and met everyone on the floor. Our instructor came in and studied us for a moment.

“Okay class, everyone grab a rod and partner up with same gender” his voice roared.

We scattered towards the weapons wall and Emily partner with me while gathering our equipment. We settled by a far corner.

“Okay, today you are to learn, hit and trick”

Um what?

“Wolf” Dimitri gestured and he emerged from the crowd with his weapon.

They faced each other and readied their position; Dimitri threw the first swing making Wolf bring up his stick above his head to block it. Dimitri again brought his rod down only Wolf wasn’t fast enough and ended up smacking Wolf in the gut. Lastly Dimitri brought the flat round end to Wolf face and Wolf began to block it but soon I understood what he meant by hit and trick. Dimitri tricked Wolf and ended up swiping him under his feet, leaving Wolf thrown on his back and I clearly heard the air knocked out of him.

Dimitri composed himself, “There, now try your own ways,” he spoke and turned.

Emily and I faced each other and smiled, we began throwing our sticks at one another, hitting hard enough for our arms to hurt from the vibration of the sticks. We worked on being able to defend ourselves while tricking our opponent. Emily was much better at tricking part then I was.

Soon class came to an end but I didn’t register how fast time went by.

We left class and towards lunch, I started randomly thinking and had a thought about Wolf, was Immortals and Lycans relationship myth or true?

“Emily what’s the nature between werewolves and Immortals?” I asked her.

She finished chewing and swallowed and gave me a confused look.

“What do you mean by nature?”

I silenced myself for a moment.

“Like what is the relationship like how do others act around one another?”

Emily took a breath and she seemed to mentally prepare herself, “our kind and their kinds, there must be peace, but knowing the reality that is not always the case.”

“Okay…go on”

“There are always others out there who think they are higher ranking such as Immortals or other Lycans. They seem to want to one up another to prove who is powerful…so reality is, it is always going to be about power and how the used of possession is.”

Power’ I mentally thought

“There is also battling issues when come to agreeing about things, like land or treaty agreements. All in all, there is a signed treaty agreement for so called peace” she airs quoted peace, “but reality is where is equality when all you want to do is gain power and get to the point of manipulating it.”

My thoughts went to Wolf and I felt for him as he surrounded by Immortals.

We finished eating and started to our next class but we still had a bit more time before it actually started. Emily suggested a stroll through the grounds. I obliged but my thoughts went back to the abuse of power when you can by empowering your own self?

Pursuing my lips together and thinking about, I continued walking with Emily. As we enjoyed the wonders of a beautiful garden to the intriguing alleyway maze. Everything was a world of itself. Soon Damon met up with us and he started a conversation with us about classes and wanting to know what we were up do to. I blindly answered questions as I was not fully there as I was thinking about other things. All I really got out of the somewhat one conversation was just classes and assignments so I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. But I still felt bad that I wasn’t totally engaged in the subjects.

We ended up walking somewhere I wasn’t too familiar with but we turned a corner and instantly I felt a connection, as it felt drawn to me.

But it felt wrong.

I looked around for a bit and eventually looked down a valley where four students were chilling on the grass, chatting amongst themselves. I almost froze as I recognized one of them as Kieran. I instantly broke my gaze pretending not to see him but it was too late as he made brief eye contact with me. Then for some reason after leaving that area, I told Emily and Damon I would catch up with them later. They looked at each other weird, but nodded in confusion and slowly walked away. I had no idea what I was doing.

I then turned around another corner and aimlessly walked wherever my feet took me, almost being guided by something. My mind wondered about stuff but I forced myself to shake it off, I didn’t need to create or start drama now. Just as I was starting to figure things out taking a deep breath and sucked in pine scent and nature almost as if I was close to a forest.

I halted realizing I had no idea where I actually was at the moment. I checked my surroundings and noticed I was by a treeline full of pine trees. At first, I was intrigued but my other thoughts were to think how big was this island actually and how could it able to lift so much weight. I guess this world was full of magic that I still am trying to figure out myself. Shaking my head, I turned to walk away but bumped into another person who happened to be Wolf.

“oh uh sorry” I whispered.

Wolf laughed, “no it’s okay I just went for a run” he replied and takes a few steps away yet electricity builds between us.

“A run?” I asked, not knowing what he means.

He scratched the back of his head and shrugs “yeah a run, I need to do something.”

“Like jogging or…?” fading off on my thoughts.

“…or running like a wolf…I transformed and ran on four legs.” He stated.

I only slowly nodded my head, yeah because he is a Lycan my thoughts countered

“Oh…” I expressed to loudly, he cocked his head and raised his eyebrows.

A smile formed on my face and tried suppressing this pull to him, though it felt real and right.

“Well, you are an interesting Immortals Asema, I give you that credit. Otherwise, what are you doing here?” he gestured to the trees confused.

“I wondered off for some whatever reason…” I replied innocently.

“Looking for an adventure I presume?” he smirked.

I smiled back and shyly shrugged, “yeah…”

I felt comfortable around him, as if our connection was natural one and something not to be afraid of.

“so…can you point me where to go?” I asked.

Nodding and stood beside me and I felt electricity spark stronger almost as if he was touching me but barely. I laughed in response and listened intently to specific instructions he gave me, waved goodbye and a thanks and walked away.

I had arrived just on time surprisingly me, letting me feel accomplished that I found my way with easy directions even though it was complicated way. I went through the class where Damon and Emily were chatting amongst themselves, I took my seat brought my gaze forward and realized they stopped talking. I turned my head to then as they both stared at me intently.

“What?” I asked puzzled, did I miss something.

“Nothing I just curious where you went and surprised that you found your way here,” Emily stated but a hint of humour was in her voice.

“I had help from Wolf…”

She scrunched her eyebrows, “Where the hell did you go?”

I shrugged, “just apparently by the forest I presume,” admitting where I was.

This time Damon popped in, “you apparently went farther than expected” and returned to his work while Emily shrugged but eyed me. Herbology class sped by and soon I found myself in history and somehow found myself attentive towards the information. Professor Klyn somehow was able to make it interesting.

“We know of royal families and aware of ranked classes” he rolled his eyes which was subtle. “their statues among the ranks, having the highest to lowest. Not powerful but to weakness…even though power does indicate that but rank as in social status.”

I took a breather.

“Example would be which is the biggest country and smallest one”

How does that relate?

“Bigger the country higher the status, which is why some in the past have merger kingdoms together. All of it really started when the Ancient elements families came into existence. They are higher rank but not Immortals.”

Now my head was spinning.

“Okay, we are getting off track…Ancient royal family are the foundation of the four realms as possibly union. Through them more kingdoms were born eventually leading to the Immortals race and other creatures.”

I sighed and looked over at Emily who also was engaged but her face was scrunched up.

“Shall I start over” Prof Klyn asked.

We all chorused a yes.

He took a breather. “In time of the beginning, the gods Kadea and Aenar created a world of creatures, Kadea created all sorts of creatures, but her specialty were us the Immortals, we were know as the night creatures…even though we walk in the daylight. Aenar was dark and evil but a balance of dark…Kadea was light. Aenar chose to rule over demons and evil…a way to control the bad. He is good but chooses the darkness. In a way he protects us. Soon they realized they wanted a child of their own. The first born would be a god of balance, good and evil, and ruler of the royal ranks…make sense?”

I nodded my head along with other classmates.

“Good” and he continued a merge with the royal history and this god of balance.

Soon that class was over but my head was no longer spinning, Emily and I arrived at our room and began homework. Soon my thoughts went to Wolf and I smacked myself in the face.

He was friendly, charming and seemed nice. A nice personality I believed but I couldn’t get over that electric feeling that I felt with him on multiple occasions. He was something of an interest I was curious about.
