Unknown Life (1) (Editing in Progress)

Chapter 4.1

Even though she didn’t request to write, I scribbled away four elements.

“Kadea grants us gifts to these elements, as she also the keeper of them herself,” She paced to the window. “The gifts are what we learned is chosen wisely as they are beneficial to us in a good way to serve and worship her. Though to understand, we must learn the control of them.” She continued and stopped, scanned the class, probably making sure we were engaged to her words.

“Some immortals have powers already as evident to your jewellery while others have yet to discover theirs.”

The prof then went behind her desk and drew upon her hand towards the board and almost transparent to full capacity for images to appear on the dark board. I was a bit surprised by the action but contained myself as much as possible. One of the symbols from the board I recognized on some of the students’ jewellery. The professor continued.

“These areas, you know elements that you wear, but do you know why you wear them,” Valdis asked us as general awareness.

Then a deep voice spoke from the back.

“Because when coming of age immortals, they cannot control the full extent of their powers, but by wearing them it helps to get a good sense where the flow of power comes from.” The voice sounded as it had a thick accent but almost barely noticeable as if he wanted to hide it.

“Thank you, Wolf,” she continued on.

I drowned the prof voice out and turned just to sneak a peek at Wolf. He was sitting by himself and looked somewhat engaged in prof Valdis teaching. He was a unique being, held it himself and didn’t display much.

Ending the lesson now and coming to the conclusion that there was fire, earth, air and water, and Immortal only received one of the powers. That was all I could really understand.

Emily and I were now heading to another class which was towards one of the fighting rooms. Upon walking down a different corridor, I noticed how it resembled some modern aspects.

“Emily”, I piped up, “what exactly are we doing in this next class?”

She smiled another gentle smile, “It’s basically a self-defence class,” she answered. I nodded my head, “it also for those who are interested in warrior training. It gives a sense of the basic of the essence.”

“Oh,” I replied, and we continued towards where we were going. Walking down a huge staircase with grand space and a few arches above us. We set forth into a more modern area. It seems like the setting of a human high school.

We approached two wooden doors and only pushed them open. I observed and saw that there weren’t lines on the floor but instead blue and black mats that seemed for cushioning a fall, similar to gymnastics gyms. There were bows, arrows, shields and rods on the left side, with on the right was a set of doors that I assumed were changing rooms. Emily started lightly pushing me towards the ladies room. Entering the changing room and there were already a few girls changing into gym clothes. I guess I would call them fighting clothes.

Emily stopped me by a full-length locker, it didn’t seem like it had a lock system, but I shrugged it off, not really caring. If there were no locks, then I assumed people respected each other and didn’t steal.

“This is your locker. I am going over there to mine and quickly change,” She gestured behind herself and left.

I opened my locker, and there were two pieces of clothing, pants and a shirt, hanging on the side. I pulled out the shirt and saw that it was a short sleeve black shirt with lining on the inside, and the outside was red. Pulled off my shirt and tie slipped it on the shirt. I could already feel how comforting it was, not too tight. I looked down at the pants. They looked like yoga pants and had the same red lining in and out. I slipped off my skirt and put on the pants. They also felt smooth on the skin. I just hoped they wouldn’t ride down.

Curious about how I looked, I searched for a mirror and saw one by Emily, who was finishing up changing. I noticed that I was still an odd blonde, but the short sleeve shirt and pants looked good on me.

Emily passed by, “Oh, don’t forget to tie up your hair” she dropped an elastic to me. Silently I thanked her and bundled my hair up into a high ponytail. She led me out onto the mats, and I began witnessing the boys who were taking on someone or each other.

Looked like they were just throwing themselves around on the floor mats. One boy, in particular, looked stranger than the rest, and he was doing more self-defence while others kept coming at him. A moment later, I realized it was Wolf who was beating the boys off. Another conclusion, he must be part of this class too. Then I began questioning how this would play out.

Except I didn’t have time to think when a booming noise from a man came through the doors. He, I assumed, was the teacher though he was dressed in a unique way. He had a tank top on that showed his muscles and military trousers. It was theme cargo. His hair was short and spikey, and his face looked as if it had many scars. Emily leaned over, “he used to be a warrior till his first child. After that, he decided to teach because he wanted to stay alive for his children.” She whispered as if she could read my mind.

He stopped right before the class and stood upright like a soldier.

“Hello,”

“Instructor Dimitri,” the class chorused.

“Today, we are continuing with basics, grab a partner of opposite gender and prop with them,” he commanded, then started walking to the middle of the gym. I glanced at Emily, but she was gone, and I searched where she went and her with Damon. I huffed a breath and wondered; that is great now awkward kid needs to find a partner.

I kept searching, though anxiety already began filling me up till a tapped on my shoulder, and I turned and saw Wolf.

“I thought you might need a partner since Emily didn’t seem to help,” Wolf said almost jokingly. Closer to him, I dedicated the accent stronger but blew it over my head, trying to figure out where he is from.

“uh, thanks”, I murmured, then looked to Dimitri and seemed he was already demonstrating the first step.

“Okay”, Dimitri voice hollered, “try knocking your opponent down like this.”

In one swift motion, his opponent threw a punch aimed for his face, but Dimitri backed away, caught the fist with his left hand and twirled to face the opponent. Then with his right elbow, he hit his opponent squarely in the chest, knocking him down. I was a bit stunned at first as the motion was so quick.

“Okay, class practice, remember force and power,” Dimitri roared.

Everyone began to start, and our instructor began observing. I turned back to Wolf and literally thought the worst.

“Would you like to start?” Wolf politely asked.

“Um…no, I will let you start”, I confessed; I was more comfortable to say that considering I still have no idea what I was doing.

Wolf got into a ready position, and I followed. I put my fist up, sucking in a breath, and made my first advance on him. Second, later I ended on my back onto the floor with the air knocked out of me.

I looked up with a little dazed gaze, and there was Wolf looking down at me, offering me his hand. I took it, and he pulled me up in one swift move like I was nothing.

“You okay? I didn’t expect you to fly towards the ground,” he confessed.

“Well, it is my first time…and I am fine.”

He searched my gaze, and I shrugged it off as we ready our positions again. I threw another round, and seconds later, I was on the back again with the air being wheezed out of me. Wolf pulled me up again.

“Okay,” I replied. I became nervous and literally had no confidence. I really didn’t know what I was doing. We ready our positions. He threw what I assumed was a light punch that I tried to block and tried throwing my elbow into his chest. I was not quick enough, and I somehow was latched onto him and was now hanging onto his arm in mid-air. I could feel him laugh as he backed up while helping me level my feet onto the ground.

“Want to try that again?”

I didn’t answer but automatically ready my position.

He took that as the answer.

We tried again, and this time I had some force resulting in some effect, but I landed on the ground. Wolf helped me up again, and from there, we continued till I actually was able to give some force from my elbow. Soon class ended, and we headed towards the changing rooms.

“Now, lunch”, Emily chimed as she was excited about food. I laughed at her excitement. We headed out and walked towards the dining hall. But I was stopped by a voice. I peered over my shoulder and saw Madam Mentor walking towards us like she was walking on air. Soon in front of us, she looked at me.

“How have your first two classes been?”

I shrugged unsure, of how I even felt about them in general. “I guess they are fine, but it’s something new. I may be comfortable with it later,” I replied harshly.

She smiled, “well, if you need anything, please do not hesitate to get my attention.”

I smiled, and she allowed Emily and me to enjoy the rest of the day.

Evening came faster than expected, and I decided to walk the grounds myself just to get a feeling for this place. The night sky was clear with stars, but that was probably because we were above the clouds. They gave a landscape look like fluffy ground. I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was tonight. Gas lamps post were stationed every few meters giving enough light to see where I was going.

The path was nice, and smooth stones clicked when my shoes hit them. I almost felt as if I was wearing tap dancing shoes. The sound was somewhat soothing. I looked up for a second and thought how beautiful and magnificent the arches connecting to tunnels were and how they connected to buildings.

As I rounded a corner, I saw a little bit of the fountain as though it was coming out of hiding. I walked a little further, and there it was the marvellous fountain.

The goddesses, I assumed, seeing enough of her figure around the school ground. Hair and dress looked as if they were floating. Her arms were outstretched, embracing the sky above her. She looked beautiful and peaceful like she was floating on nothing. I admired her as I walked closer and found some stone bench by the fountain and sat down.

The work itself was lit with blue light giving the illusion of life beyond the statue. It almost seemed the water would give life or powers beyond this world.

I looked to the wall that I jumped off yesterday and shivered, and quickly put it behind me. I brought my attention back to the fountain and water, the peace it provided and the cool air that brushed off the water.

This is reality, a world that I belong to, but why?

There are some questions that still needed to be answered. Who was this goddess, really, and could I really make sense of this world?

“Enjoying your evening, miss?” a voice from the shadows.

I leapt to my feet, frightened and look through the night air in the direction of the voice.

“Whose there?” I shook for a bit.

A man emerged from the shadows into the fluorescent light. He was pale, of course, and tall. Blonde hair, high cheekbones almost reminding me of a fox. He also had the typical blood-red eyes, but he was darker. He was handsome and was dressed very well to do. Tailored trousers and a dark blue dress shirt.

“Sorry to disturb you”, his voice deep and mysterious, but he sounded genuinely sorry for scaring me.

“Who are you?” I asked, a bit weary, as that was the first logical answer that came.

“Kieran Crimson, you will know my baby sister, Emily” he was now fully out of the shadows and came towards me.

“Emily is your sister?” I questioned with a bit of suspicion that didn’t make sense unless royals speak their middle names as well. Though they looked nothing alike, side to side could have similar features.

“Yes, but let us talk about something else,” he said, tilting his head and meeting my apprehensive eyes with an affectionate gaze.

“Okay,” I hesitated, “What do you want to talk about?”

“You,”

I was a little taken aback. Guess being new, some people want to know you,

“You are new here” he smiled and came closer.

I just nodded my head in agreement though I felt my body stiffen. He came closer and now sat down on the bench, “do you like it here?” a genuine question, his voice smooth, bringing the words together like silk. A way to be held by captive charm, you couldn’t walk away.

“It’s okay, still new but adapting”, I replied, well raising myself up from the bench, “I should probably head toward my dorm now.”

He looked up, “So your name is Asema”, totally disregarding my statement, as he confirmed my name.

“Yeah, I guess so,” I took another step back. Hopefully, he would get the gesture of my body language.

“Asema, am I able to escort you back to your dorm?” he asked, but there was something about the way he asked that sent warning signals.

“No, thank you, I believe I am fine on my own,” I replied and turned, but he caught my wrist and yanked me towards him, my heart leapt into my throat.

“When am I able to see you again?” he asked, trying to sound polite. Even there was a tension of fear that I felt.

“Uh, not sure because I am not even sure”, I confessed, desperately wanting to get away.

“Well, hopefully soon”, he let go of me, “see you around Luv,”

He walked backwards for a few steps smoothly and soon eventually turned around, walking off into the shadows, disappearing.

I turned and headed to the path that led to my dorm and ran. That was a weird encounter, and hopefully, I could brush it off.

Reaching my dorm, and ran up to the stairs to my room and slammed the door shut. Took a breath.

Tomorrow, please be different.
