Unknown Darkness (2)

Chapter 21

As promised, we rose before dawn. The city outside did not say a peep. It was still sleeping as grey and dullish tones reflected the buildings in darker shadows. It gave a cool understanding that something was going to happen but not sure what. I craned my neck up to see the clouds had formed a grey moody atmosphere creating wonder in my mind.

“What happens when there is a hurricane?” I question as I could hear Wolf strapping on his boots. He was wearing similar clothing to me. Combat trousers though I wore a dark grey tank top again as he wore black shirt.

“Well since there is force field around the city and we invisible to humans the waves wash over us like we don’t exist. Though that is what the humans see. Us we see them brush up against us. You should actually watch a hurricane from the plant room and see what you think of it” I could hear a like smirk come across his lips.

I turned to him, “Then it’s a plan, first family thing we do, watch whenever it comes”

He stood up and smiled while making his way towards me and wrapped his arms around my waist. The electrifying touch was stronger as was the heat. His bent down and kiss me as a jolt of buzzing went through us. Pulling back and returning sitting our bed as I watched him. Crossing my arms and smiling.

He pulled a knapsack from the bed and threw it at me. I caught it even though I not focusing on what just happened. I stared at him.

“Was that necessary?” I raised my eyebrows trying to be serious.

He threw on his knapsack and shrugged, “well unless you want to starve or go thirsty, I am pretty sure you need that bag,” he tilted his head and began motioning me to follow him rising from the slight creaking bed.

I sighed, forgot we would be camping did need stuff to survive.

The house was quiet and Madam must be still sleeping, not bothering to say goodbye, she needed rest. Today was about Junior and getting him back. Already my heartbeat had quickened. I was getting shaky knowing and worrying what was going to happen. I didn’t want to fall for his words, true or not but I also known others could not see through his lies even if it was the truth.

I was filled with the unknown and that scared me.

Wolf and I walked through the streets as shuttles were not functioning since apparently, they do have time limits. We made our way to the north as that is where we were to meet up with the othersand go over the plan. A plan that I wasn’t sure about but I needed to do it.

The weapons corridor was only a few blocks away from the academy but it gave a futuristics type of feeling. Carved out of metal giving a toughness to know this is where your life would go to protect yourself.

Entering was like entering the world biggest closet as weapons upon weapons like the library there were stories of them. I noticed though, it wasn’t just weapons but equipment for battles or journeying somewhere. Clothing and tents were packed together. With bags next to eating supplies. Rods and bows shining in the white light of the steel surface.

“Anyone could walk in here…and grab a weapon” I thought out loud.

“Not anyone, you need clearance first, and you have to give reasoning why you are valid to own a weapon, even though the decision is made by the weapons council. To that you are monitored to see if you are fit.” Brock said behind us.

I didn’t turn around but only nodded. Made sense.

“Do none warriors get approved?” I began analyzing familiar blades I seen at Kierans place.

“Again, depends on your reasoning, we only have two people here who have clearance and that is Wolf and you… otherwise people just use their powers.”

That made me turned around and make a ‘oh’ face.

“Anyway,” Brock moved away from us and began to go forward to the middle of the first floor, “The lay of the plan.” He said probably motioning us to join him to hear and to know what we needed for survival on this mission.

Brock looked around the stories of equipment and blades possibly thinking about something. “Just in case we are going to need sleeping bags, your preferred weapon of choice, you have food and water but just encase brings small weapons and breath.” He said, I felt the breath part was for me.

“This is a rescue and also a arrest, he is to stand trial for his crimes, do not kill unless life is threaten” He repeated from the days ago.

He then made his way up the stairs clattering the metal below his feet. Another warrior follows probably off to collect something.

I turned to Wolf who smirked and motioned me to some other part of the room where seemed there were straps and daggers on the walls that were illuminated by blue light. Wolf picked up a medium sized strap and handed it to me along with sheath. I took them and only stared while Wolf picked up a random dagger and stopped short when he saw I was still in the same position.

“What?”

“Why do I have these” I questioned him.

“To hold your dagger encase the other one gets knocked away.

I rolled my eyes, “Okay, how the hell to I put on the strap?”

Wolf bit his lip as it seemed he wanted to laugh but held himself together. I only gave him a stare, warning him of his future actions.

“Here,” he took the strap lowered himself on my leg laced the strap through the holder and sheafed the blade. Then began adjusted the strap on my leg buckling it into place. It felt firm there and didn’t feel like it would slip.

“There,” Wolf raised himself on to his feet just to only tower over me again, “Bounce and see if it will come down.” He instructed.

I shrugged and bounced, and it still held firm. Wolf smiled and placed another dagger in my hand.

“There, now its only just encase.”

I rolled my eyes at him, and we continued grabbing our weapons.

Wolf only took a sword that he sheafed onto his hip but last minute strapped it to his back. We were about to leave when Wolf threw a archers bow at me.

“What?” I asked again, placing it on my back as the string cross my chest. “Where are the arrows and why do I have this?”

Wolf handed a black strap with a rectangle pad on it, helping me place on back and the rectangle was rough against my skin between my shoulder blades.

“It’s for arrows, you reach behind yourself, and they appear.”

“Uh” I replied, and tested it. I reach behind and instantly a arrow appeared in my hand I brought it before my eyes and inserted in and aimed my target.

“Not in here” Wolf sounded worried and stopped me before I could let go.

I slightly laughed and we returned back to where Brock was coming back down to our level

“Good now that we have everything, let us go.” He motioned for us to follow him and we entered back into a now slightly light outside where others were probably waking up.

Our feet may be quiet against some concrete and stone but they felt like stomps of heartbeats every step. Bring me to those closer anxious thoughts of this reality where things began to hit me.

I would be either come face to face with Kieran or I would hug my son again knowing he would launch onto me. Happy thoughts but also terrifying.

Since Kieran would stand trial, I could possibly get answers from him but would they even allow me to talk with him. It was a question that I needed answers to and sadly he may be the only one who could answer honestly.

My mind must have been way beyond as we arrived at the portal tower sooner than intended. Taking the lift, the eight of us were not crammed inside thankfully but Wolf still pulled me close to him rubbing my hand. A comfort for him than for me. It still gave a sense of calmness.

The doors opened and there the same portal hovered in the middle of the room like a oval whirlpool, as water painting yet moving in a horizontal twirl.

We moved forward but Brock stopped right in front of it, we followed, though I was wondering why he stopped in the first place. But then it dawned on me. Did we all have to hold onto Brock to arrive at the place as him or was there something else to this portal thing that I was not understanding.

Brock spun around and analyzed each one of us. His gaze landed on me last and he nodded just as the sun peeped over the horizon blinding me. I put my hand up blocking the blinding sun.

“We can’t get a precise location because from last time, he had a barrier up. So, again we will be a few feet away from him.” Reminding the group.

We all nodded, and I began to think of Junior and the forest that was around his location to the mountains that surrounded them. We were so close.

Brock turned, and my gazed shifted to the portal that was changing the scenery that I imagined it may look like. It was like glass covering over it but with ripples of water. The lush green with rock walls behind.

“That’s odd, I didn’t command it to there…” Brock voice went quiet and stared at the portal. “Everyone be careful as there may be some danger behind.” He warned us, though he still hadn’t taken a step forward.

“Unless someone, has portal powers here otherwise there just spells,” one of the dirty blondes said looking at everyone.

“Only with special abilities can someone possess that power.”

“Portal abilities?” I silently asked. Wondering if I just showed something that I was capable of.

Wolf leaned in, “Portal abilities are insanely rare, you can produce a portal just by thinking where you want to go. And it will appear. But some believe it is just a myth.”

I swallowed, “Maybe let us just go” I raised my voice, “If there is danger we are prepared.”

Brock turned and eyed me for a moment only to slight nodded and brought his attention back to the portal and breathed a calming breath. “let us go” and stepped forward being engulfed by the glass water with the rest of us following.
