Chapter 20.1
The light shone into my face as the morning sun rose. Wolf arm was snake around my waist but his breathing was heavy telling me he was still asleep. I moved away a bit unravelling his arm and soon I was free. I quickly moved to the dresser and place on some baggy work out trousers and a grey tank top on with a light leather jacket placed on my shoulders. I slipped some combat boots on my feet and tip toes out not but not before leaving a note to Wolf where I was.
I made my way through the streets and morning routine was amongst people going to work or taking children to school. I crossed a few crossroads till I made my way to middle north of the city. There I stood in front of the Pacific Rim library.
There is stood as a palace holding knowledge that I needed for answers I knew I could only find in those books. We leave in two days, and I have no idea when I will have time to come back here and research my answers. So, I went forward climing the grand stone staircase and entered only to jump back with awestruck.
I was staring at some hovering globe that must be showing earth. It hovered like just few feet of the ground with misty cotton clouds floating on it. I turned my attention to the receptionist.
“Excuse me, where are origins stories more specifically creation of good and evil?” I asked the lady; she seems to stare at me with curious though but shook her head as if she breaking from a trance.
“Up those stairs and make your way to the back where you see a painting of Kadea and Aenar.” She pointed to the stairs on my right and I nodded.
I made my way to them and seemed like they were rich brown wooden steps. My feet tap against them as I climbed up the stairs only to be stopped again by the wonders of their library.
I was in a world in its own self. Levels upon level so many book shelves and archway with spiral staircases linking to unending floors. Sky High had nothing on this library.
I started forward towards the back remembering to watch for Kadea and Aenar painting.
It seems to go on forever till I reached a back wall with a circular window and there is hung before me a painting of Kadea and Aenar. I stared at it for a moment and was amazed to see how gold he was. The painting was not doing him justice. But I turned away from it and began seeking a title that had a keyword of anything.
I trailed my finger across the books till I stopped and found something that may work
‘Myth or Legend of Light and Darkness’
I pulled it out and flipped through it. I swear if Kieran was right about this Light and Darkness thing I am not sure I am able to handle it. I didn’t want to confess but there were holes in my story and holes in understanding who I am truly and how my powers came to be. I know Madam says I am her daughter but I had this feeling. There must be something else to it. I read.
‘In time of world, there is balance, but balance is not always achieved. There are many things that prevent such ways.’
I scrunched my eyebrows together, what I just read didn’t make sense. I flipped through the book and found myself making to the circular window. Where the light was now shining brightly against the tinted yellow pages. I was about to flip one more when a sudden painted image came.
It showed two figures a man and a woman, they stared at one another. The woman was lighter probably indicating light and the man was deep dark in it bolded lines. He must be darkness. I looked below where there was a inscription.
‘Light and Dark are the origins to this world being created. They created balance, something to hold onto. To much of something and the world will begin to weaken, losing. But as told these are myths, depending on how you see it.’
Again, I was confused, depending on how I see it? I placed the book down and chills went down my spine. The books laid there in the sun beam light off it.
A realization was coming to me. Maybe Kieran was not trying to confuse me, maybe he was telling me the truth. People kept saying they see a light in me but never further explained. But how could that even be? As I remember from our lecture with Professor Klyn, there was Kadea who created Immortals and every other creature while Erebus was controller of evil. They had a child of balance but did that child ever exist?
Madam Mentor feels familiar like a parent but only in certain times when her eyes seem bright and shine like a silver moons.
I began to pace, could there be two creation stories? Or better yet two origins that seem to have holes in them?
I went back to the book and flipped it to the end.
’In time there will be balance, depending on the powers of the two, either darkness will turn evil and create uncontrolled power or Light will turn things back making powers turn to dark but true dark. In times of truth, you just need to know where it lies.
‘Seek truth or answer will never be given.’
The book ends. I close it.
I felt those last written words were for me. Light helps keep the balance of the darkness, or evil would take over.
If Kieran is the darkness, then I should kill him in order to keep balance. Arresting him would not help anyone.
Besides if I was this so-called light that Kieran still trying to figure out. Killing him would destroy him.
I arrived early afternoon back at the house where Wolf was seemed to be speaking with someone in the living room. I approached the threshold and saw Wolf, Brock and Madam speaking with each other but their voices died down when Madam saw me.
“We were about to search for you,” she lets her voice sing to me, with a instant reflect of calm sooth over me.
“What did I miss?” as I slowly join the circle.
Brock shuttled his feet, “We leave tomorrow before sunrise, the warriors are ready and you seem so too.”
His statement shocked me but I accepted, as he saw that and soon left leaving Wolf and Madam with me.
“How are you feeling?” Madam voice came.
I turned to her, “I am fine, just my head doesn’t seem clear.”
She comes to me and there was that familiar touch with shining silver eyes. “Anything I can do?”
I shook my head with a smile, “Nope just prepare me for the forest and for search as we get Junior back.”
She lets go and leaves the room. While my questions of light leave with her.
Wolf embraced me in a warm hug and I squeeze him back. He rested his chin on top my head and I felt his chest rumble against my ear.
“Tomorrow hopefully you can hold him.”
I hope so too.
