Chapter 153
A short while ago, Letta was still admiring the beauty of the dancing waterfall in front of her when a tap made her turn around and smile, but the smile faded. When someone in all black bowed in front of her, Letta thought it was Marco coming to take his coat and scarf.
"Sorry, ma'am, the master asked me to escort you to the car because he said you both must return immediately as he has an urgent matter to attend to," the guard with the black glasses perched on his nose said. "Why didn't Marco come to pick me up himself?" Letta asked.
"Sorry, ma'am, the master is on the phone and he's afraid to leave you for too long, so he instructed me to come and get you quickly, as he's concerned that something dangerous might be lurking around," the guard explained, making Letta finally nod.
"Okay, then let's go back," Letta said, but as Letta was about to take the path they had previously taken, the guard stopped her again.
"The master has already driven his car and will be waiting at the end of that road, ma'am. I'll show you the way, please," the guard said, making Letta walk slowly once more. Somehow, Letta felt that Marco hadn't mentioned they were being followed by a guard who always seemed to be around Letta, perhaps because Marco didn't want her to feel uneasy, Letta thought. Without suspecting anything, she followed the guard's lead. However, after a few meters, Letta felt that Marco was too far away to wait for her.
"When will we arrive? Why did Marco ask me to walk this far?" Letta asked again.
"Sorry, ma'am, but I'll protect you, ma'am. Just stay calm," the guard said again.
Eventually, Letta didn't comment at all, and suddenly Letta heard a shout calling her name from behind, making Letta immediately turn around. Even before Letta could see who the person was, someone covered her mouth and immediately covered her head, making Letta struggle within the grasp of what seemed to be several people holding her body. Letta could also hear the person who had previously called her name with a voice that sounded familiar, becoming clearer. However, along with that, her consciousness was diminishing, until finally Letta lost consciousness.
Letta didn't remember anything, and that's when Marco immediately accelerated his pace when he saw several people carrying Letta's body, which seemed to be unconscious. Luckily, Marco managed to grab one of the rascals who had been playing with him, punching him, and at that moment, several black cars stopped at the end of the road, which seemed to have been their target. About 8 or 10 people came out of the cars and approached Marco, making Marco aware of his current situation. Without hesitation, Marco indiscriminately took down one of the guards before they gathered to strike Marco. Among them, some were carrying wooden beams and chains, making Marco realize that this was not the position to fight.
"If you really feel so bold, tell me first who sent you," said Marco, who now faced the guards he didn't recognize any of, making one of the guards, who seemed to be their leader, step forward and laugh scornfully.
"You don't need to ask too many questions because it's time for you to face our Master. You've underestimated him too much, so don't resist. It's better for you to come along now," the guard said, making Marco reluctantly comply rather than having to fight them alone. Marco chose to follow them directly.
"Fine, which car should I get into? And remember, don't touch my wife at all, or you'll really make me wipe all of you out," Marco said, once again underestimated by the guard.
"Your wife's condition depends on your behavior. If you resist, of course, she'll face the consequences," the guard, who seemed to know Marco's weakness, said, making Marco finally follow their steps to get into one of the lined-up cars, a different car from the one Letta had been put into earlier. Eventually, Marco was immediately bound and had his head covered with a black cloth. Those people left no room for Marco to know their hiding place, but with his sharp hearing, Marco tried to listen to where they were taking him. At the moment, Marco could hear the noise of people playing music. After that, Marco felt the car turn left, and the road seemed to be getting narrower. He heard people bustling again, and also caught the scent of roasted meat. Marco seemed to remember the journey as he remembered it, until the car finally stopped, making Marco feel one of them pulling him without removing their head covering.
"Release the head cover first, you scoundrels, so I can walk without being led like this," Marco said again.
"Don't negotiate too much. It's better for you to follow your steps correctly now," the people said, finally silencing Marco. Marco could feel the dampness around him, the silent atmosphere, and the chill, making him certain that this was a secluded place, far from the crowds. Marco could also hear his steps echoing louder, the steps sounding clearer, and he heard the rustling of some animals nearby. Occasionally, he caught a whiff of a foul odor, making him realize that this was not a comfortable place. Was Letta brought to a place like this as well? Marco's mind continued to whirl until he could feel the people pushing him, causing Marco to fall onto the rough and damp floor.
"Wait here. You really have to stay quiet and wait for our Master, so he may deign to remove your head covering," the guard said, making Marco attempt to get up from his seat, when a kick to his back made him fall again.
"I said stay quiet. Don't move at all. Don't try to stand up or do anything because we'll keep watching you," he said, making Marco growl while clenching his fists.
"At least let me stand. This place of yours is truly filthy and disgusting. I bet it's the same as your Boss's position," said Marco, who seemed to be unable to restrain himself, and that just made the guards kick him again, leaving Marco gritting his teeth. Marco didn't care much about the kicks they gave him, as it meant nothing to his robust body.
"Tell me, did you also place my wife here?" Marco asked, only to hear laughter from the surroundings.
"Not for now, but if you keep defying us like this, it seems our Master will bring your wife to this squalid place too, and that sounds like a good idea," he said, making Marco feel somewhat relieved at least, knowing that Letta wasn't being treated in the same manner. But Marco was also worried because at the same time, it meant Letta was placed in a separate location, he thought, finally choosing to follow the guards' instructions. Marco wanted to see how far they would continue to monitor him and what they would do, and what the purpose of their Master was.
"I think your Master is truly a coward because he still hasn't shown himself to me. I'm quite tired of staying silent like this," mumbled Marco, still audible to the guards, making the guards once again attempt to punch Marco, before they all heard a voice that Marco felt he had heard before, stopping the guards who were about to teach Marco a lesson.
