Chapter 3
Chapter 3
DENISE
“What?” My voice was small, it was pretty evident how dumbfounded I was,
Sage swallowed and moved away from Simon’s back a bit now. She continued, “Simon is my rightful mate. I have known this for months, actually, but I knew I was not up to his standards, considering my background”
Her eyes were wet with crocodile tears, but it seemed like she had everyone’s attention. They all stared at her with dumbstruck expressions.
She went on, sniffing. “I always knew I was not worthy to be Simon’s Luna, I did not want everyone in distress, I’m not… I’m not even half as spoilt as my cousin, and I can not always get what I want, se……”
She moved
away from Simon’s back completely now, her face riddled with sadness and Simon took her into his arms without an iota of hesitation
I tried to ignore him and the gesture altogether, my eyes transfixed on the woman who was supposed to be my best friend.
“And you thought it was best to keep something that huge away from me? You know I would have given him up for you, I love you, and I value our friendship more than any other thing, so why would you ruin my life like this? Why would you drug me?” I queried, my voice breaking as I spoke
She gasped, her eyes displaying practiced innocence as she responded, “Drugged you? I would never do that to you, Denny. For someone who says she values our friendship more than anything, you really enjoy lying against me. You have always tried to place me beneath me because of how spoilt you are. I’m used to this. You always blame me for everything you do wrong.”
I had never been this flabbergasted in my life. “What?”
“What more do you have to say. Denise! You robbed your cousin of her mate, only to go off and cheat with a nobody I guess you have always been spoilt rotten, we just did not notice. We gave you everything you ever wanted, what more could we have done for you?” My father barked at me. whilst the others had sympathetic looks in their eyes as they regarded Sage.
I opened my mouth to speak, but everyone was saying something at the same time, all in her favor
Alpha Derek finally managed to quieten the guests, so that his son could speak.
Simon began, “It was nice planning my life with you, Denise, but now, I need to move on from whatever this is. I will be planning an engagement with my mate, Sage, insteadTM
1 tapped my ears to check if I was hearing him correctly. He was joking, right? I mean, he could not be serious….
“Simon, what are you..
“Come on, it was about time, girl..” Arya, who had chosen to stay silent throughout all these, finally said to me. I could not pay attention to her right
BOW…
Sage slapped a palm to her chest, her eyes wide as she stared at Simon. He pecked her cheek and returned her gaze as he told her, “You heard me right, we are getting married. I should have done this a long time ago?
“Me too,” My father spoke, stepping forward with a guilty expression on his face. I was so lost, so weak, my heart could hardly take any more of all this drama.
He continued, “I should have done this a long time ago officially welcome you to my family. I want to claim you as my rightful daughter, Sage. only if you are willing”
Rightful What?
Sage ran to my father, then stopped right in front of him, looking unsure of her next move. He smiled and there his arms around her, hugging her tightly. My father had never hugged me so tightly, so lovingly. But right now, it had been so easy for him with her…
“Of course, I have always wanted to be your daughter, Alpha Connor.”
He pulled away from her, “It’s dad to you from now on”
e two men I loved most
I clutched my chest, going to rest my back against a nearby wall, because my legs were giving away. In one day, the continuously slashed my heart with their hurtful words and gestures.
A handful of people burst out in laughter. It did not take long before the attention was on me again.
“She deserves to be exiled for her carelessness and betrayal. We do not need people like her in this pack, Alpha Connor.” A member I recognized as

Josh said to my father, looking at me with distaste. Exiled! How had it gotten to that?
Sage stepped forward, her eyes blazing with fake pity. “No, no, please. She is just a spoilt girl, she does not deserve to be exiled. Please. I have forgiven her for everything she’s done to me..”
more pieces when I saw what was
I looked at my father hastily, stepping away from the wall now, too weak to keep crying. My heart broke in many m in his eyes. He did not look like he wanted to rebuke Josh….
“She is not worthy of her position, though. Do something about it, she cannot keep receiving the privileges of an Alpha’s daughter as… unworthy as
she is.”
“Yes, Lagree with you. She deserves to be punished. I hope you do not take it easy on her.”
“Oh, she would be punished, do not worry, I intend to
But I had heard enough. One minute I was standing there, listening to all they had to say and watching our mothers try to give out easier punishment… Then the next minute, my eyes had become unfocused and my legs gave way, landing me on my back on the cold, tiled floor.
And then all I saw was black.
When I managed to peel my eyes open later in the day, my head throbbing like hell, I found my mother sitting down by the edge of my bed, caressing my hair with a distraught expression on her face. We were in a rundown house, I noticed, and the environment was nothing much to write home about but that was the least of my problems now.
My mother withdrew her hand as soon as she saw that I was awake, a guilty expression taking over her face instead now
“Mama…
“They came to a conclusion, Denny. She went straight to the point. You You may still remain within the pack, but you will no longer enjoy the privileges of an Alpha blood. What you did was outrageous…”
I saw the slight shock on her face when I just nodded in resignation, holding her gaze. I was simply too disappointed in the world to argue right
now.
“You know I love you, right?” She was back to caressing my hair, pure love shining on her eyes. Of course, I knew. My mother was the only one who had ever shown me love and affection through thick and thin, I realized…
I nodded at her question, gripping her hand and rubbing my thumb over her pulse, “And I love you too, mama,”
She bent and placed a kiss on my forehead.
I seized the opportunity to ask, “My mate… Do you think I would ever find him again? Would he still accept me even if I left him?”
She sighed, holding my hand in hers now. “Stop asking questions and find him, Denny. He is your mate, you both belong together”
“But I do not think he is.. do not think he is someone ordinary, mama. He probably would never forgive me for abandoning me. I’m a nobody, mama… His aura and everything, I found swear he leads a pack or something similar…”
“Hmm. Did you catch his name?”
“Brandon Frost.” I said at once, because it had been engraved in my brain ever since he said it last night. My mother’s face twisted in an unreadable expression. I squeezed her palm,
“Mama?”
“Uh, did you say Frost?” She inquired.
“Yes, is there a problem?” I sat up, but she only stood up and cleared her throat, watching me intently as she responded,
“None. None at all. Get some more rest, Denny, I’ll see you later,”
She practically fled out of my room afterwards. She knew. She definitely knew who my mate was….
My stomach rumbled after almost an hour of lying there, thinking about what just happened. So, I threw my legs off the bed and headed to the Pack’s kitchen to request for something to eat.
The moment I walked into the kitchen, I could feel the change. Everyone regarded me with disdain in their eyes, openly sharing their opinions even in my presence.
I swallowed my hart and walked up to the chef, “Im really hungry, Edna, Can I have some pasta and chicken prepared for me! And also-

“No, you cannot. Denny Unfortunately.” Edna said, holding my gaze in a challenging stare. What?
“Slap the hell out of this bitch, Deniset You’re going to let her order you around like this? Arya raged.
I sighed, “Edna…”
“If you want to eat, you have to work for it. Go wash the dishes, then I see what I can whip up for you. Nothing serious..” With that, she sidestepped me and walked off.
I stood there for a while, considering my options, then I started walking to the sink. A slave, Jules, appeared beside me, a sad smile on her face. I had saved her from a severe punishment just weeks ago.
“Let me help you, Princess Demmy. She started but Edna interrupted.
“Don’t you dare! Are you a rogue’s mistress too, you filthy little slave? Do you want me to report your latest wrongdoing to the Alpha, is that it?”
Jules gasped. “You promised..”
“Get the hell away from her!”
I turned to Jules. It’s okay, I can handle this”
And that was how I found myself doing a whole sink of dirty dishes with freshly manicured fingers whilst my stomach hurt and protested in hunger.
I smelt Sage before I saw her.
“Greetings, Princess Sage.” Edna was the first to greet before everyone else. They began to scamper about in search of what they could help her with.
“Edna, all of you, leave now. I want to have a private conversation.
on with my best friend.” She said the last words mockingly, it caused me to swallow down the hurt 1 immediately felt.
Soon, we were alone and Sage stood beside me.
“Finally, you’re at your rightful place, and I’m at mine. Want to see something cool?” She pulled her brown hair aside, her big brown eyes glistening with pride as she revealed the bite on her neck which had Simon’s scent all over it
I clenched my fists, but said nothing. Arya was thrashing, she was burning with rage.
“Simon and I, we’ve been sleeping together for years now, since you decided to keep yourself until the m mating ceremony. When you mind linked me this morning, we had our tongues in each other’s throats. Even last night, too,”
She let me digest that, and deciding not to show her how hurt I was, I allowed a small smile cross my face before going back to do the dishes with a calm I did not feel.
From my periphery, I could see that she had disappointment written all over her face. After watching me with scorn for sometime, she huffed and began to storm out.
Unable to stop myself, I then asked without turning around, “Why would you do this to me. Sage?”
She cackled, a loud sound that filled the kitchen. Then she replied, “This is just the beginning. Denise. I am tired of being in the shadows, always playing the supporting role. I plan to take every single thing you have taken from me. Every Thing”
