Chapter 43 The Prison
Gate didn’t die arcane, he went to the kitchen to help Sally with the chores.
At they finished breakfast, Gale suggested they go out for a walk, but just then, Sally’s phone rang
Seeing that the caller ID was from the Imperial Women’s Prison, Sally froze.
“Strange, why would someone from the women’s prison be calling me?” Sally mumbled, then answered the phone.
Gale watched Sally curiously.
“Miss Sally,” the person on the other end said. “is that you?”
Sally quickly responded, “Yes, it’s me. What is it? How can I help you?”
The person continued, “You’re friends with Laura, right?”
Sally confirmed again.
The person then said, “Laura is now in prison. She wants you to come visit her immediately.”
Sally felt like her brain exploded.
Laura… something happened to Laura!
Sally stood up from the table in a panic.
Gale looked at her in surprise, “Sally, what’s going on?”
Sally briefly explained the situation to Gale, then hurriedly gathered her things to leave, “I have to go see Laura!”
Thinking about Laura being pregnant, Sally felt her heart break.
What happened to Laura? How did she end up in prison?
Gale also stood up with Sally, “I’ll go with you.”
Sally instinctively refused, but Gale said, “I swore to always protect you. Sally, if you don’t let me come with you, I won’t be able to live with myself.”
Sally reluctantly agreed, “Okay, then please drive me there.”
Gale quickly grabbed the car keys and went out the door.
Sally packed a lot of daily necessities for Laura th

When Sally and Gale arrived at the women’s prison, a prison guard led them to Laura’s cell.
Seeing Laura lifelessly leaning against the corner with bruises on her body, Sally’s eyes instantly reddened.
When the guard opened the cell door, Sally rushed in first.
Gale stayed at the door, turning his back.
“Laura, Laura!” Sally hugged Laura, heartbroken, “What happened? Why do you have so many injuries?”
Even though Sally was injured herself, seeing Laura’s wounds hurt her even more. Laura slowly opened her eyes.
“Sally, is that you? Sally…” Seeing her best friend, Laura’s eyes turned red, and she started crying.
“Sally, Sally…” Laura couldn’t say anything, just held Sally and cried bitterly.
Sally finally calmed Laura down and then asked, “Laura, what happened? Why are you in the women’s prison?”
Laura cried for a while longer before responding, “It was my brother, my brother…” Hearing Laura mention her brother, Sally’s tone changed.
“Robert? What did he do to you?” Sally asked seriously, “He put you in prison, didn’t he?”
Laura nodded while crying.
“That damn man!” Sally cursed angrily, “You’re his sister! How could he do this to you?”
Sally cursed Robert a few more times, then asked, “Why did he put you in the women’s prison?”
Laura explained sadly, “It was Lilith… she killed someone, and Robert saw it too, but he… he wanted me to take the blame. I refused, so he had Jack beat me, and then… I was sent to prison.”
Sally clenched her fists tightly!
She couldn’t believe Robert could be so heartless!

Laura was his sister! Even if they weren’t blood–related, they’d been siblings for years. How could Robert be so cruel to make Laura take the fall for Lilith!
Thinking about Anders, Sally couldn’t help but sneer.
No wonder Robert and Anders were so close; they were the same kind of people.
Thinking of Laura, Sally took a deep breath and said, “I’ll find a way to overturn your
case.”
“It’s already decided.” Laura closed her eyes, “Sally, you know? Robert has already had the court sentence me. I got twenty years.”
What? Twenty years?
Sally was incredulous, “How could that be? Why twenty years…”
Laura looked dazed, “I killed someone, it’s that simple.”
“No, Laura, you didn’t kill anyone.” Sally hugged Laura, “I’ll find a way to overturn your case, wait for me…”
Laura nodded while crying.
Sally quickly asked, “Was there anyone else present when Lilith killed that person?” Laura hesitated for a few seconds, then shook her head, “No, only Robert and Lilith were there.”
Sally sighed deeply.
No other witnesses, no proof.
But then Sally looked at Laura again.
Laura’s eyes were avoiding hers.
“Laura, are you hiding something from me?” Sally suddenly asked.
Laura turned her face away, “No.”
“No? Are you sure?” Sally’s gaze became sharp, “Tell me honestly, was there anyone else there when Lilith killed that person?”
Laura felt a headache, “Sally, don’t ask, I don’t want to answer.”
Sally became anxious, “Laura, if you don’t tell me your situation, how can I help overturn your case?”
Seeing Laura still unwilling to speak, Sally finally said something to shock her, “Do you think keeping silent will help? You can endure twenty years, but what about the

child in your belly?”
Laura’s expression changed.
Seeing her words had an effect, Sally continued, “Your child will be labeled as a murderer’s child from birth. When he goes to school, when he works, people will always look at him differently. He might never escape this shadow. Laura, can you really bear to see that happen?”
Laura’s expression finally softened.
Just as Sally thought Laura would tell the truth, Laura chose silence again.
Sally sighed deeply.
“I’ll help you apply for bail,” Sally stood up, “No matter what, let’s wait until you give birth.”
Sally quickly left with Gale.
However, shortly after, Robert walked into the prison with a cold face!
Seeing Robert appear, Laura’s face turned pale with fear!
She shrank back and quickly lowered her head.
Robert looked down at her and suddenly sneered, “Stop hiding.”
“I heard everything you just said.” Robert’s voice was cruel.
Laura looked at him in disbelief.
“You, you know…” Laura instinctively protected her belly.
Robert’s eyes became even colder.
The cell fell into an eerie silence.
