the Wife

Chapter the Wife 38

Chapter 38 Slander

“I never doubted Mia. As for being easily influenced…” Daniel scoffed. “Gale, haven’t you been listening to only one side of the story from this woman? Don’t forget, it was the woman in your arms who hurt your mother and put her in the hospital.”

“Enough, shut up!” Gale clearly did want to hear any more of it. “Who hurt my mother is none of your business, Daniel. Don’t you think you’re meddling too much?”

Daniel was furious, “Gale, don’t be ungrateful. I’ve warned you out of kindness, but you still protect this woman. When Sally finally harms you, don’t come crying to me.”

Gale laughed bitterly at his words, “Crying? Give me a break. Who do you think -you are?”

Daniel found Gale’s recent remarks increasingly caustic.

“Gale, go ahead and keep defending Sally. But when…” Daniel began, but Gale cut him off sharply, “Shut up. Don’t speak to me in that condescending tone, You don’t deserve to!”

Gale added, “Daniel, are you even a man? Sally is just a weak woman, and you’re treating her like this! You make me sick.”

Daniel couldn’t believe Gale would turn against him for a woman one at that!

“She hired someone to kill!” Daniel could no longer hold back and blurted out what had happened to Mia. “Gale, Sally is a vile woman, and you’re still defending her!”

“If you say she harmed Mia, then tell me, what was her motive? She wouldn’t harm Mia for fun, right?” Gale retorted without hesitation.

Daniel looked at the disheveled Sally and said, “Obviously, she wanted to gain power by getting close to me and eliminating Mia to take her place.”

Gale was stunned.

After a few seconds, he burst into laughter.

“Hahaha…” Gale laughed without restraint, while Daniel’s face grew darker.

“Stop laughing!” Daniel demanded angrily. “Gale, what are you implying? Do you think I’m lying to you?”

Sally closed her eyes in despair.

Gale gently patted Sally’s shoulder and asked softly, “Sally, is what he’s saying true?”

Sally slowly lifted her head.

“Daniel, you might have misunderstood something…” Sally’s resentment grew as she recalled Daniel’s recent cruelty.

With a sarcastic smile, Sally said, “Why would I like you and try to gain your power?”

Her soft voice, though gentle, had a biting undertone to Daniel’s ears.

“Haha…” Gale laughed again. “Daniel, there are many wealthy people in this city besides you. Moreover, Sally isn’t the type to have such poor taste. You already have a girlfriend. Why would she cling to you? She has standards, you know?”

“You…” Daniel’s face turned various shades of green and white.

Gale, seeing his words had struck a nerve, was about to say more, but Sally spoke first, “Daniel, I’ve told you before, I’m not interested in you. Do you think every woman is desperate to stick to you?”

“Haven’t you been pestering me?” Daniel scoffed, “You used to cling to me at every opportunity, talking about old times. You’re really shameless.”

Gale couldn’t stand Daniel’s insults towards Sally any longer and shouted, ” Daniel, watch your mouth! Don’t call her shameless. Who do you think you are?. Dragging a woman with a car, you’re even more despicable.”

Daniel wanted to hit Gale, but Gale took out his phone.

“Daniel, don’t you always praise Mia as a kind–hearted woman? Fine, today I’ll show you who’s truly evil!”

Gale called his friend, “Ray, you can come over now.”

Daniel was confused. A few minutes later, a low–profile car drove into the yard.

Ray got out first, then brought a burly man in front of Daniel with two bodyguards.

“You might not know this man,” Gale said with a smirk, “but I can tell you, he’s the driver who hit Mia–Oliver.”

“What?” Daniel was shocked. He quickly kicked the man on the ground,

cursing, “So it was you who hit Mia? You bastard!”

Oliver looked terrified but, upon seeing Sally, he shouted, “It was her! She hired me to hit Mia!”

Sally’s face turned pale instantly.

“When did I hire you to hit Mia?” Sally retorted sharply, “I don’t even know you! How can you slander me?”

Gale gently patted Sally’s back to comfort her, “Sally, don’t worry. I’ll help you clear this up.”

Sally remained silent.

“Hey, Oliver, watch your mouth…” Gale glared threateningly at the man on the ground. “You know what happens if you lie about Sally? Hasn’t your mom taught you to be honest?”

“Don’t interfere!” Daniel shouted at Gale, then turned to Oliver, “Tell me, did Sally instruct you to harm Mia?”

Oliver glanced at Sally disdainfully and said, “Yes! Sally hired me! She promised a large sum of money if I succeeded. Every word I say is true.”

“You coward, you really don’t want to live!” Gale kicked Oliver hard, cursing,” You better think before you speak! I have a bad temper, and if you piss me off, I won’t show you mercy!”

Oliver, still stubborn, said, “It was Sally who told me to harm Mia! Even if you beat me to death, that’s the truth!”

“Oh, you sure are tough,” Ray laughed. “Don’t worry, soon you’ll find out what happens to liars.”

Ray handed a tablet to Daniel.
