After interacting for the past two days, Gwyneth could feel that Wanda was a quiet young lady, and her sudden promotion to become the CEO’s secretary made her try her best to erase her presence even more. Then again, her sudden outburst, excited over one of the company’s projects, surprised Gwyneth.
“Do you know this place?” asked Gwyneth. Then, she saw Wanda turn around to close the large door to the meeting room like a thoughtful person would.
“My hometown is in Glacier Lake, Ms. Glen.”
Wanda spoke as she frowned, feeling conflicted. After all, she had just got promoted to secretary but was unsure if what she said would be accepted. Gwyneth was quite surprised when she heard what was said since coincidence doesn’t happen so easily.
“Does that mean you are familiar with the situation at Glacier Lake?”
“Yes, I’m very familiar with it. That’s why I felt that the project is unsuitable.”
Gwyneth was not surprised at what Wanda had said since she knew the project was as simple as imagined.
“Those in my hometown are very fond of Glacier Lake, Ms. Glen. It’s not just a sightseeing spot, but also holds historical value.”
“Does that mean the locals are against the development project at Glacier Lake?”
Seeing Gwyneth’s serious expression, Wanda could not help but be drawn in by her solemness. She nodded, not feeling comfortable
saying more at the moment.
When they both reached the office, the project still lingered in Gwyneth’s mind.
When the government is about to launch a tourism development project, there normally would not be too many changes. However, the prerequisite is that the locals would not be affected or would peacefully accept the development. The government had not been able to fulfill either of the prerequisites when it comes to the development of Glacier Lake.
Gwyneth sat in the office the whole afternoon, searching for information about Glacier Lake. From the picture alone, she could feel that the scenery took years of wind and rain to become what it was today. It was very likely she would not be able to accept such draconian orders to develop the place as well if she were a local.
She could not help but recall the day when she met Mr. Curington. That man agreed even before I could propose any plans or changes. What’s even more absurd? He agreed, all for Liam’s sake. It would have been fine if it was any normal tourism development project…”
Gwyneth tapped her fingers on the table, feeling restless. Unable to trust Mr. Curington, she turned off her computer and called Wanda
after that.
*Please move back my schedule for the coming two days. Take leave this afternoon to pack your bags so you can go on a business trip
with me.”
Wanda, still taking down Gwyneth’s instructions in her notebook, was dumbfounded upon hearing she was needed on the business trip.
‘This business trip is quite sudden.‘
“Where are we going, Ms. Glen?”
“We’re going back to your hometown,” Gwyneth casually said, crossing her arm while looking at Wanda with raised eyebrows.
She had to investigate the current situation at Glacier Lake personally. Bringing Wanda was also a way for her to observe the young lady.
The morning of the second day, Gwyneth drove her car to pick up Wanda. Naturally, some of Glen Corporation’s marketing department staff tagged along, though she did not arrange it. When she alighted from her car after reaching the destination, she looked indifferently at those who got off from the car behind her.
“I apologize for causing you the trouble of coming here, everyone. But I did not ask you to come.”
After the marketing department staff heard her, they looked at each other and awkwardly said,
“Ms. Glen, you know how important this project at Glacier Lake is to the Glen Corporation. That’s why the Board…”
“Ah, that’s right, that’s right. I’d have to trouble all of you to go on this business trip with me then,” interjected Gwyneth, not waiting for
Seeing that her schedule was tight, she could not be bothered to hear any more made–up stories about how important investing in this is. Simply put, the directors sent these people to spy on her. In their eyes, she was akin to a fish. Only when she was baited would they feel relieved.
After speaking, she took Wanda’s hand and walked toward the direction of Glacier Lake.
It’s good for Gwyneth to bring the young lady since she knows this place so well that a guide was not needed. She could not help but be convinced, seeing the scenery right in front of her eyes as they walked around Glacier Lake for some time. The photos taken of this place pale in comparison to the actual scenery right in front of her eyes. Everything here was natural, with almost no sign of manufactured structures.
While touring the place, they occasionally greeted the locals with warm smiles.
“This is a really good place.”
Gwyneth might have just said it, but it was said with admiration from the bottom of her heart. Wanda, on the other hand, was deeply touched by that.
