Chapter 51
Chapter 51 Is There Something I Can Do
In a moment fueled by alcohol and her swirling emotions, Gwyneth found herself unveiling her vulnerability to Liam, a step she had never
taken before.
The act of dealing with her own father, Gaspard Glen, was an agonizing experience, made even more unbearable by the unsettling fact that Gaspard appeared to relish in it.
“You used your power to strip away his authority and resources,” Liam spoke up. “How could he simply let it slide?”
Gwyneth looked up and gazed at Liam in front of her. He had a gentle expression in his eyes. The rays of the evening sun streamed through the window, casting a soft, radiant glow upon his cheek.
Suddenly, Gwyneth felt like she was being melodramatic, never before had she let her emotions get the best of her. After all, since her mother’s passing, her relationship with the Glens was nothing more than enemies with blood connection.
Gwyneth seemed lost in thought for a while, and Liam started to feel a bit uneasy. “Why are you looking at me like that?” he inquired, his voice tinged with a trace of apprehension. Yet, all he received in response was a subtle shake of her head, a gesture that left his mind
awash with tumultuous uncertainty.
The second drink, now coursing through Gwyneth’s veins, brought forth a delicate flush on her cheeks. She wasn’t much of a drinker to begin with. Rarely did she indulge in social gatherings, and even then, it was usually just a glass or two of champagne.
Seated on the couch, Gwyneth’s posture mirrored that of a wounded child, her head slightly bowed, evoking an image of innocence
overshadowed by a sense of injustice.
Liam, accustomed to Gwyneth’s usual assertiveness and quick wit, found himself unsettled by her sudden silence. Deep down, his. affection for her remained steadfast, and he yearned to shield her from any distress. “Is there something I can do to help?” he tenderly
offered.
“Yeah, I need your help,” Without a moment’s hesitation or resistance, Gwyneth responded to Liam’s heartfelt inquiry. It was a pivotal moment for her, as she realized, perhaps for the first time in her life, that she had someone she could truly rely on.
That evening, Gwyneth found solace in the guest room, a glimmer of reassurance sweeping over her. She drifted into a deep slumber, the weight of her burdens momentarily lifted, allowing her to experience a night of uninterrupted rest.
The next morning, Liam deviated from his usual routine. Instead, he brought Gwyneth to a cozy café. As they entered, Chuck Curington was already seated there…
Upon seeing Liam, Chuck immediately stood up, but his eyes lit up when he laid them on Gwyneth.
“Mr. Luther, long time no see. And who might this be…“, Chuck didn’t have any ulterior motives, but appreciation for beauty proved to be universal, and he was no exception.
Without a trace of hesitation or animosity, Liam responded with an air of confidence, his hand gracefully encircling Gwyneth’s waist. His voice resonated with conviction as he introduced her, “This is my wife.”
Chuck said, “Ah, Mrs. Luther, I’ve heard so much about you. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.”
Gwyneth smiled faintly and shook hands with Chuck in return.
“I never expected Mr. Luther’s wife to be so beautiful. Truly envy–inducing,” Chuck remarked, his words laced with both polite pleasantries and genuine admiration, unable to contain his genuine appreciation.
Liam glanced at the menu and spoke softly, “Compared to my wife’s abilities and talents, her beauty is hardly worth mentioning.”
Gwyneth, her hand gently resting on the table, felt à subtle tremor course through her fingertips at the sound of Liam’s words. ‘What just happened? My heart skipped a beat,‘ she pondered, a surge of inexplicable emotions stirring within her.
Liam’s openly displayed care and affection for Gwyneth didn’t go unnoticed by the female server nearby, her expression tinged with a hint of envy. She couldn’t help but silently lament that some people were just too lucky.
As the server served a few cups of coffee, the three of them began to get down to business.
Liam accompanied Gwyneth to make introductions and lend a helping hand. He knew that Gwyneth didn’t appreciate too much interference from others, and he respected that. After all, this was primarily a Glen Corporation matter, and as the CEO of Luther
Corporation, he didn’t want to get overly involved.
True to form, Gwyneth wasted no time after the coffee cups were set down.
“Mr. Curington…” Gwyneth’s lips curved into a subtle, confident smile, her eyes shining with determination as everything fell into place.” Today, I asked Mr. Luther… I mean, my husband… to meet you here because there’s something I’d like to discuss with you,” she continued, pushing past the momentary stumble in her address.
Meanwhile, Liam swallowed a mouthful of scalding hot coffee, feeling the warmth in his chest as he heard her calling him her husband.
Chuck spoke up, “Feel free to speak, Mrs. Luther.”
“I would like to take over the Glacier Lake’s tourism development project.”
Gwyneth’s statement startled Chuck, who was in his fifties. His gaze immediately turned to Liam while he exclaimed, “Are you saying that Luther Corporation is interested in it?”
Liam, on the other hand, remained expressionless, like a mere observer.
“Not Luther Corporation, but my companies,” Gwyneth clarified. As she spoke, she reached into her bag and pulled out her own business card, placing it in front of Chuck. “I can assure you that I will develop Glacier Lake into a tourist hotspot.”
Chuck took the business card and looked at the title, his tongue almost involuntarily clicking. He finally understood Liam’s description earlier. The woman before him, as stunning as a living work of art, turned out to be the CEO of two corporations.
“But…” he began, his voice laden with a sense of hesitation. Despite Gwyneth’s impressive credentials, he found himself harboring concerns from the government’s standpoint.
“Mr. Curington, if you feel uncertain about both of my wife’s companies joining, then how about Luther Corporation also becomes a part of this endeavor?” Liam placed his coffee cup down. He leaned slightly forward, exuding a commanding presence. “What are your thoughts on that?“..
