Chapter 52
Chapter 52 Your Lover is Here
As Liam’s words came to a halt, a wave of astonishment swept through not just Chuck, but even Gwyneth was caught off guard. This was no trifling matter, and humor had no place here. The gravity of the subject demanded utmost seriousness.
“Mr. Luther, uh…” Chuck blinked and looked at Liam, involuntarily swallowing his saliva. After all, Luther Corporation had never participated in a project collaboration like this. But if Liam really decided to get involved, the funding and the process would undoubtedly be more
stable.
“Mr. Luther,” Chuck stammered, his eyes widening as he turned to face Liam, his throat involuntarily swallowing hard. Luther Corporation had never ventured into such a collaborative project before. But if Liam was truly committed to this endeavor, it would undoubtedly bring stability to the funding and the entire process.
With a firm voice, Liam proposed, “What do you say? If Luther Corporation joins forces with us, we will make certain that the project is completed according to the schedule.”
At the mention of the word “certain,” Gwyneth’s hand instinctively clenched into a tight fist beneath the table, her impulse to strike Liam almost palpable.

As expected, Chuck immediately nodded eagerly, afraid that Liam would change his mind. “Well, if that’s the case, let’s agree on it and finalize the contract later.” Chuck’s words were a hasty farewell as well. After all, this was a big deal that needed to be implemented, and perhaps he could even gain some recognition from the collaboration.
After Liam and Gwyneth saw Chuck off in the car, they stood by the roadside. A heavy silence settled between them, as if an unspoken understanding hung in the air. It seemed as though they shared a hidden connection, a shared knowledge that needed no words. But after a brief moment, Gwyneth’s curiosity overwhelmed her, compelling her to turn her head and gaze at the man standing beside her.
As a slight chill filled the air, a tinge of desolation seemed to seep into the atmosphere. Whether it was the weather itself or some other enigmatic factor, Gwyneth couldn’t help but feel a growing sense of perplexity toward the man standing beside her.
Finally, she voiced the question that had been lingering in her mind, “Why did you help me?”
Liam replied, “When I laid my eyes upon the Glacier Lake project, I thought it would be an exhilarating venture.”
While Liam’s response seemed logical on the surface, Gwyneth couldn’t shake off the nagging feeling that it was somewhat contrived. It was as if he had anticipated her question, as though he had rehearsed his answer beforehand. She pursed her lips, a flicker of skepticism dancing in her eyes. ‘Why do I constantly have a feeling that there’s something wrong with this man?‘
Suddenly, Liam said, “Let’s go. It looks like it’s going to rain.” Before Gwyneth could think too much, he grabbed her wrist and they got into
the car together..
The two of them remained mostly silent during the journey. Gwyneth kept her head down, reading through documents, while Liam rested his eyes. After about half an hour of driving, the car entered the gate of Luther residence. As the car made a turn just now, Gwyneth glanced out the window and caught sight of a woman.
“Hey…” Gwyneth’s mischievous tone made Liam immediately open his eyes. He was about to inquire about the reason when the car came
to a stop.
Gwyneth continued, “Your lover is here.”
As Liam listened to Gwyneth’s casual remark, he promptly opened the car door and stepped out. As he sensed Gwyneth’s emotions, a sly smile curved at the corner of his mouth. Following Liam’s lead, Gwyneth made her way out of the vehicle.
Seeing Liam exit the car, Elizabeth, who had been waiting on the front porch of the mansion, sprang to her feet and hastened toward him.”
Liam…”
Elizabeth’s sweet and cloying voice pierced through Gwyneth’s ears, causing her head to buzz with an unsettling sensation. An unwelcome thought crossed Gwyneth’s mind: ‘Her voice doesn’t carry that tone when she speaks to me.‘
As if only just becoming aware of Gwyneth’s presence, Elizabeth swiftly adorned herself with an apologetic smile and addressed her, “Hi, Ms. Glen.”
Gwyneth nodded in acknowledgment and then stood aside, hugging her arms. She understood very well that Elizabeth wanted to speak to Liam alone, but today she had no intention of granting Elizabeth’s wish.
Seeing Gwyneth feigning ignorance, Elizabeth inwardly cursed Gwyneth and then shifted her gaze to Liam. “Liam, I made these pastries myself. I thought it would be lovely for you to give them a taste and let me know your thoughts.”
Upon hearing this, Liam subconsciously glanced at Gwyneth. However, she remained still, her expression betraying no hint of her thoughts.
Liam accepted the delicate pastries Elizabeth offered. After thanking her, he calmly said, “The weather is not good today, Elizabeth. You should go home and get some rest.” With that, he now set his sights on heading back to the mansion with Gwyneth.
However, Elizabeth, who had been waiting for so long, wasn’t about to accept that. “Liam,” she spoke up, “I had intended to wait for you
inside the mansion, but the housemaid wouldn’t let me in.” She went from looking shy to appearing pitiful in the blink of an eye.
To be honest, Gwyneth truly admired Elizabeth’s acting skills.
In reality, this whole situation was nothing out of the ordinary. The staff at Luther residence had been in the process of transitioning between old and new employees in the past few days. If they let a stranger in, it would be a dereliction of their duties. But the current scene seemed as if Elizabeth was complaining about it to Liam.
Watching the scene, Gwyneth couldn’t help but chuckle softly. She then walked up to Elizabeth. “Ms. Lisle,” Gwyneth addressed her, “I’ve recently made some changes in the mansion’s staff. It’s only natural for them to exercise caution and prevent strangers from entering when they encounter someone at the door.“.
The mention of “strangers” pierced through Elizabeth’s heart, igniting a flicker of frustration within her. Yet, she found herself at a loss for words, unsure of how to respond to the situation at hand. Ever since Liam questioned her about her scar, she had been in a disadvantaged position and lacked the courage to confront any unfavorable situations.
She could only say, “In that case, I shall return. Liam, remember to try those pastries…”
