Chapter 103 I’m Staying This Time
Elizabeth was frantic, and her feelings raced alongside the vehicle. She clung firmly to her phone to mask her panic. She had to occasionally check her phone’s screen because it was muted.
She quickly covered the screen’s glow with her hand whenever a new message came in. Her sudden movement startled the driver and unintentionally caused her elbow to slam against the window.
The driver inquired cautiously, not wanting to say the wrong thing. “Ms. Lisle, are you alright?”
“I’m good, everything is fine.”
She forced a smile and waved her hand at the driver before reading the message.
Elizabeth finally sighed in relief when she read Kingsley’s message saying he would take the blame. Although the police could follow the trail back to Kingsley, it did not lead to her.
Hayden, Gwyneth, and Wanda followed the convoy as it departed the port. After driving for about an hour, Gwyneth realized they were not heading to the city.
With some confusion, Gwyneth peered out at the mostly quiet road. She asked, “Aren’t we going to have our dinner?”
Hayden peered over his shoulder, gazed intently at Gwyneth and said in an incredibly soft voice, “Yes, I have prepared a feast, and I hope you’ll like it.”
Wanda was sitting in the front seat. She saw the scene in the rearview mirror but said nothing. She had not yet fully recovered from the shock of the kidnapping. She dared not close her eyes to rest out of politeness.
The trip took almost ninety minutes. The vehicle stopped when Gwyneth was about to speak again. Hayden was the first to get out of the car. He then opened the door and gently took Gwyneth’s hand to help her out.
“This place is…..”
Gwyneth was amazed when she saw the scene in front of her. This place was neither a restaurant nor a villa, but an estate.
“The view is lovely, isn’t it? This is an estate I bought,” Hayden explained from the side while leading Gwyneth into the estate.
Gwyneth was always prepared to be surprised by Hayden’s unpredictable actions, but this act genuinely took her by surprise. She wondered, “You bought this property? What about overseas…”
“My staff is handling the overseas situation for me. The main purpose of my return is to establish myself in the domestic market.”
When Gwyneth heard Hayden’s matter–of–fact tone, she was unsure how to respond. She kept quiet and made a soft chuckle.
The two had already entered the estate’s villa in the interim. It was finally time for dinner after a long day. Hayden was followed by Gwyneth.
Hayden prevented her from occupying the side seat as she was about to do so. He said, “That’s not your seat.”
He sat her in the center seat without consulting her.
Gwyneth asked, “Hayden, I’m a guest. Is this appropriate?”
“I’m the host, so it only makes sense that I would be the one to arrange our seating.”
Gwyneth knew that there was no room for negotiation after Hayden said this, but she still felt uncomfortable, as if she were sitting on spikes.
Wanda sat on the other side of Gwyneth. She was eerily quiet, but her complexion had greatly improved.
“Serve now.” Hayden commanded.
Gwyneth was lost in thought when she heard Hayden clapping his hands in the direction of the kitchen.
One by one, servants emerged from the kitchen and held plates of food.
Given the timing, Hayden probably instructed the servants to start preparing the meal as soon as they left the port.
Upon seeing the dishes, Gwyneth instinctively swallowed. She was grateful for Hayden’s hospitality, but she was still uneasy. She picked up the cutlery and took a bite of the main course. She nodded her head repeatedly because it tasted so good.
Hayden grinned in response and said. “I’m glad you like it. So all this trouble wasn’t for nothing.”
Hayden poured Gwyneth a glass of red wine, set out a napkin, and made sure everything was impeccable.
Hayden sipped his wine and stared at Gwyneth while they ate. He asked. “What’s going on with the kidnapping today? Do we have any leads?”
His words reminded Gwyneth of the major incident today. Although she had no recollection of it, the name Kingsley flashed through her
mind.
She reasoned that the kidnappers must have had some connections if they were able to take her at the auction discreetly. After all, typical kidnappers could not sneak into the parking lot of the auction house.
When she thought of this, she thought it would be much simpler for her to conduct her own investigation. When she got home, she should have been able to find some information with a quick search online.
