Chapter Falling from heaven, tears lead the way
“Who am I you ask, well my dear, it is very simple”, “I am none other than, a” he was just about to tell me until. Another voice soon rang over his “a soon to be in heap of trouble if you don’t remove your filthy hand from her”!
Looking closely back at his ribbons and metals it was soon made clear that they were all home and hand made. “Hay what gives, who said that?”.
“I did, it was me”, as the voice soon became more clearer an noticeably more vocal, repeating what was said “don’t make me tell you again”, “oh yeah” he came back with, ever so tightening his grip on my arm “um ow, your starting to hurt my wrist”, once having a firm and friendly demeaner it soon changed to a more hostile as there was arrows drawn, pointing in his or should I say our direction, “stop making a mockery out of her, and let her go, she done nothing to you, she’s a guest at this town”.
“Whoever is saying that show yourself, and we will see”, the sound of hooves clomping against the ground as even there were some sounds of horses neighing, coming from behind those who had the arrows still pointed toward our direction.
Followed by a huge gasp, when there were two white wolves that were the size of two giant malamute huskies, one on each side of a white stallion. The rider; dressed in a pearl white gown, that was covered by a long fox red hooded cape that the hood dropped over the rider’s face, until.
When it was removed by her, before she could even speak a syllable, the crowd dropped whatever was in their hands, minus the ones who still was armed, whispers of the name ‘Mistress Madeline’ echoed, as the crowd that stood at the time when it all began knelt to one knee, even when she dismounted of her horse and gave a couple of pats on the noses of the two malamute wolves, as they (the two wolves) stayed where they were but kept a keened eye.
Once entering the yard, of those who aimed their arrows at us slowly began to set them aside but still at the ready if needs be. Walking up with both hands in the air, as she entered the yard we watched her hand over a long blade sword over to someone who appeared to be a guard.
Who approached her from behind, probably suggesting that what she’s about to do is not wise, but being a strong young girl like her mother keeps telling her and everyone, she handed it to him with a small gesture of a command with her right hand to stay. From then on, she cautiously continued to evade any advice and march on toward us, two as I felt pain start in my wrist that gripped tight, I ask “why do you do such a thing to a person, that’s myself, that has no prior bought”.
In his left ear, I ask of him even to release me and there will be no repercussions, with his beady little eyes looking back up at me, as he puckered his lips together, he then told me “I thought about it, indeed I have, though if you are who I think you are, then you might as well free yourself”, “you sure about that”. I ask him several times and the answer was ‘yes’ bobbling his head up and down slightly.
That’s when I looked up and saw her look back at me being only a few feet that stood between us, looking down at my feet, contemplating on what to do next. Like it was in a blink of an eye, taking my left foot behind me, then using just the momentum of strength and time. Pulling with my left arm, that he still had a grip, and a smile. Ever so slightly as if we were in a dance, thrusting him around me in a tight circle, with one slight jerk of my hip, tossing him over my right shoulder. He went down hard. Within a moment, I sort of lost where I was which I blindly for some reason seeing my reflection through his eyes from the glow of the flickering flames of the fresh lit lanterns.
The ambiance of a new crest of shadow less moon light hover over. We both took a small moment and at the same time looked down at a small blade the same blade he almost used on me that was now in my hand and just inches from his neck, “ha, ha, ha” he started to chuckle proudly “now that’s the captain I heard about”.
“Now, if you don’t mind letting me go” pressing the blade ever so closer giving him a near close shave, when, “you can let him up now, you did good”. Feeling a gentle hand press against my right shoulder, looking up, doing a double take, when I saw looking down at me with her deep brown eyes, into mine.
Seeing the kindness in her face, I slowly pulled back the blade from his neck and retracted myself up and off him. Once back on both of my feet, standing now next to her this time, we both look down at him whipping tears away from his face. Kicking up some rocks while he was being forced on his feet by two guards grabbing onto both of his arms.
Lifting him up, first from his shoulders then placing his arms behind his back and with one slight look at Madeline, with a simple nod from her “take him from our sights”. They both turned with a jerk, followed by, seeing them drag the man involuntarily, with his feet barely keeping up.
“Hay, would you, watch it now, I was just about to” the man who briefly heard one of the guards say, “come on Leo, you’ve cause enough trouble for one day”. In a tone that sounded more like they were mocking him, Leo then with his own body weight, he jabbed his heels into the ground forcing them to stop where they were.
“I can take it from here” swinging both arm up and down, swiping at the two guards, which they (the two guards) whom happen to be the Tetum brothers Cole and Malic as they could only hold up their arms, releasing him as he looked back at us with a stern fowl expression on his face, in another second, he rolled his eyes back, turned, and proceeded to walk away from us and the two guards.
Taking only a couple steps, tripping over his feet once or twice, he made his way out of the yard. “Now, everyone goes back to your homes, there is nothing more to see” a strong commanding voice bellowed, for those who had their weapons drawn, turned, and now were looking at the crowd who pretty much had their afternoon fill of drama, decided in good conscious to leave and return home.
For we both slightly turned, watching the crowd slowly disperse. Then both looked back at each other, soon the two brothers were walking back toward us, in turn looking behind them, making sure Leo wasn’t foolish enough to return. Leo did not as he kept on walking farther away from the scene, feeling disgusted, and disappointed at himself for doing what he did, deep down inside he thought to himself that maybe one day he could apologize to her.
Chants, were heard all around him asking him “why did you do that” and “what were you thinking, were you even thinking”. I did not answer them but kept to myself, and walked up to the front door of my house, pushing down on the latch then opening the door by leaning into it.
Walking into the small house, and closing the door behind me. Once I heard the bolt latch back into place, I continued to walk to my room, then closing that door behind me.
