The Soul of Scarlet's Lost Tears

Chapter Phantom pain, mocks my smiles

When it was about the time where Kiel was out of our sight, and both Colin and Kohl Tatum, walking back chuckling at the same time smiling for what they have done they felt proud. That all changed when they both saw the look on our faces, partially mine.

“Well that was shortly entertaining, to say the least” Madeline said trying to cover up the uneven tension that I felt, while I looked at the three of them.

Clearing his throat, Kohl kindly asked “if you don’t mind madam, of handing over the small dagger”, “please”, Madeline added.

Which in turn he added after Colin giving him a little nudge, he then by retracing what he said, “please” as he rolled out his left hand. I, myself had no need of it, since it wasn’t mine anyways. It wasn’t long before we were all met up with four horses, Madeline’s white stallion, and three others.

Side by side being handled by two more guards holding onto the reigns. Being shown which of the horse’s I was going to ride.

We each mounted them, one by one starting with Madeline fallowed by Colin, Kohl, and then me as I could only ponder even further in my mind what else could, will and might happen.

Let alone where the group that I strayed from were doing, and if they even notice my absence. Gathering back up with the group, as it was only the four of us on horseback.

Madeline leading the way ridding a few feet behind her was Colin followed by me, then riding next to me was Kohl. Sometimes we rode along in a straight line when the path became narrow, then rode almost shoulder to shoulder.

Traveling through the rest of the small town, and village of small house’s, that were pitched black from the inside, with only flickering candle light on the porch. It was an acre of trail of trees, until we came across two pillars one on each side holding up a gigantic archway, there were even markings chiseled into the structure of a fierce looking wolf on both sides (front and back) in a way it looked like it was looking at you were ever you went. Before we are entering, we each dismounted off.

Handing over the reins to every horse to a handler, who walked up to us and as relinquished them to the ones who knew where to take them. We, the four of us proceeded to walk under and through the archway.

Walking only a few steps, I noticed, standing on either side of a wide opened rope drawn bridge was two fierce looking guards, dressed in heavy metal garments, as if they were frozen in time, they didn’t move at all.

Even when I slowly walked closer to one of them, it wasn’t long for I noticed that these guards; who stood at attention were only stone chiseled statues, wearing the garments to look like they were really, real.

Standing on my tip toes since they, the statute was so tall, taller than me by a few feet as they were even mounted on of thick tree stumps, trying my best to get a better look.

I got closer and closer to the one that was on my right, it wasn’t long, when I was startled, suddenly, the statue began to move, leaning closer towards me. In a way, as if he too wanted to get a closer look at me, starring vigorously at each other for no more than a minute or two. With only his eyes, he caught the attention, of Madeline, which he then went back, standing at attention, trying to desperately, of wiping the small smirk from his face.

“Well then” Madeline started to say, as she closed a book that was in her hands, then handing it to a person, who made no eye contact as he took a few steps out of her way. Bowing his head, she continued to walk, at the same time the two brothers withdrew from her side, once she got closer to me.

“Shall we continue, my mother’s been wanting to meet you”, she said, shortly after

I added, “well then, let’s not keep her waiting”. Nodding, we both agreed, she steps aside and with her left hand, she expressed for me to lead the way. I was shortly taken back, as to as why, but seeing the kindness in her eyes, as she so reminds me of my older sister Alana, ‘oh how I miss her’. I took the first few steps, then proceeded to walk, making our way onto the long rope drawn, stone and moss-covered bridge, that went up and over.

With a slight sound of a slow flowing water close by. Continuing the peacefulness of where I was, it made it even better when I soon noticed a few of the guards, that I recognized from earlier, waiting on the other side of the bridge and in front of a huge door, when they saw us walking closer and closer, they to then noticed who I was, as for one of them opened one of the doors just a little, partially went inside.

Not even a second past when I noticed, that he, the guard not only returned. But he, returned with Gideon. Whom at first was not in the best of moods, until they showed him the reason of the disturbance.

“I’ll go alert the councilman that she has arrived”, one of the guards started to say as he slowly walked back toward the door, that’s when Gideon, grabbed onto his arm, stopping him where he was, and said, “you do no such thing”.

It was about that time, where me and Madeline, walked even closer to Gideon and two guards. With a deep sigh of relief, came over them, “well, madam and Sara; it’s about time, shall we”.

Gideon said, as he slightly pushed, out of the way, while he showed us the front door, while he tilted his head slightly downward.

It took no more time to proceed, pushing against it, a heavy oak it was. But we managed to open it further, by only making a slight grunt sound.

That was when, being the first one to enter the front hall, seeing candles flickering as they were mounted on the walls, across from each other, on opposing spaces. There were even tall candle stands that had at least four or five candles lit as well as a few guards standing guard. “So, where are we going now, may I ask”, I asked politely, looking back at Madeline as she glanced at.

Gideon as he responded by saying, “they’ve been waiting for you, in the dining hall”, “but, they might of ate already?”.

Passing only three more doors, we three got to three arches, leading down three different directions in the hallway, that had just the equal number of doors. But one out the three halls were much dimmer, then the other two.

There was a bright light coming from an open door that was down the center hallway, Madeline said “see that open door with the light, that’s where we go”. Without another word was said as we continued to walk closer and closer to the lighted doorway.

Turning into the open door we; Madeline, Gideon and I each saw a huge long rectangle dining-table in the center of a room, and placed at the far end was three individual place mats, two on the left side of the table and one placed across from them.

Walking a couple feet toward them, at the corner of my right eye, I noticed several eyes looking out of a port-hole of a door, that led perhaps the kitchen, and those who were looking toward us was probably the kitchen staff, as there was even a little ruckus coming from other side of the door.

By that time, we got to our chairs, once we saw that they had assigned seating, to where then we each started to sit down, noticing that on the placemats that the table was set for a fancy meal with rolled up napkins placed in the center, and several forks starting from the small to big on either side of a round flat plate with only a few spoons and one or two different sized glasses. I then thought to myself “wow, is this different or what!”.

One by one we each saw members of the dining staff start to make their way out of the kitchen and toward us and the table, one of them carried two pitchers of water, and the other carried a tray that had three bowls of a fresh garden salad as the entree, it wasn’t long after we finished the salad, that they came back.

Took the bowls of salad from us, and replaced it with the main course of venison burgers which came with your choice of condiments, as I had water with a fresh lemon wedge and Gideon had the same minus the lemon wedge as Madeline had a glass of sparkling red wine, even though the headmaster insisted that she was forbidden to have the wine being late in the day, as well as per ordered by her mother.

With a stern look he didn’t say another word, and only gave her what she wanted to drink. Ending the meal with our choice of dessert.

With the table now cleared, it wasn’t long for we were soon escorted out of the room.
