Chapter 41
Meanwhile, at Reeves Group’s office.
“Boss, Phantom Net replied with information on Skyy and Magnate. Here is the file.”
Derick Hunt opened the digital file and started reading. Meanwhile, Randall Reeves’s gaze was bottomless and emotionless.
The atmosphere in the office was suffocating and uneasy.
“In 2019, Skyy broke into the computer mainframe of Cardolia’s air defense command system and rummaged through all of its nuclear warheads data, including that of its allies. Then he quietly slipped out without a trace. Cardolia’s military covered up the data breach and caused a massive scandal in the country.
“In 2020, Skyy hacked into the Linum operating system and announced it publicly, attracting thousands of programmers to update, modify, and disseminate it. In just two years, it had garnered over 100 million users and became the fastest–growing
software in the world.”
“In 2021, Skyy hacked into Midovia’s stock exchange system and installed digital bombs to destroy data on a large scale. The FBI of Midovia was at a loss to apprehend him and could not conclude what data had been lost.”
“Skyy is the world’s hacker big shot. His impressive achievements put authorities and commoners on the edge, especially when he attacks the internet. He can hack into complicated security systems in a short time and enjoys a god–like existence on the net. Skyy’s speed and skills are unbelievable, but the incidents proved true.”
Derick browsed through the information with Randall. Skyy’s destructive deeds dumbfounded him.
“Boss, Skyy is too scary to be true,” he said in awe.
Randall Reeves frowned. His voice was laced with fury.
“Shut up!” he growled.
Derick quickly covered his mouth tactically and blinked nervously as he continued reading.
“In 2019, Magnate bought 5.93 billion dollars in Uniro shares. At that time, the Uniro price–earnings ratio was about 15. times. In 2020, it nearly doubled its holdings, and the total investment increased to 10.24 billion dollars. In 2021, it rose to 37.43 billion dollars, an increase of 2.66 times in two years. After that, it continued to increase its holdings, and the total investment reached 13 billion dollars. In 2022, Magnate held a market capitalization of 30 billion dollars in Uniro. The annual compound yield was about 27%. Ultimately, Magnate has earned more than 40 billion dollars, excluding dividends.”
“Magnate is the most famous investor in the futures industry in Midovia’s securities. He is the most fantastic master of technical analysis and a legendary financial forecaster dedicated to researching financial matters.”
“Magnate is the founder of Jasper Holdings, Cardolia’s famous hedge fund company.”
Derick was shocked; he said tremblingly, “It turns out Magnate is a financial giant.”
Randall’s gaze diffused, and a faint smile crept onto his face.
“Now that the financial giant has touched down in Archiland, Reeves Group Il ensure a painful defeat for him,” he said confidently.
The Reeves family was influential in Archiland and was used to calling the shots.
Randall took it for granted a foreign financial giant would not easily acclimatize to Archiland, no matter what. Therefore he was confident Reeves Group would trample him to death in no time.
Derick could not help but feel sorry for Magnate. He could not understand why he would go head–on against the Reeves family.
Derick looked at Randall with admiration. “Boss, you’re right. Even if he’s a financial giant in Archiland, Reeves Group can trounce him without a doubt.”
Randall suddenly looked up; his icy gaze made Derick shudder with fear.
Derick did not think he had said anything offensive. Why did Randall look at him like that?
Randall suddenly stood up and stared at Derick intensely. “Is this the information you spent so much money buying from Phantom Net?”
Derick nodded mechanically like a robot.
Randall’s face darkened, he said coldly, “You spent 20 million dollars for this useless, trashy information! Are you out of
your mind?”
Randall was about to explode from extreme anger. He wanted to find out the true identities of Skyy and Magnate, not some insignificant information like name, age, and citizenship.
Derick realized Randall’s rage. Although the information received was shocking, it was not worth 20 million dollars.
Chapter 41
They wanted to get their hands on the factual information about Skyy and Magnate.
Phantom Net was the largest intelligence organization in the world. They, of all people, should know and practice what they preached.
Derick was so overwhelmed by the information just now he lost his focus.
Randall continued in a steely voice, “How dare Phantom Net take Reeves Group for a ride?”
Just then, Derick’s cell phone rang. He looked at his screen and said to Randall with a complicated look, “Boss, I just received a message from Phantom Net saying that if you want to know the true identity of Skyy and Magnate, you have to pay more!”
Pay more money?
Randall narrowed his eyes and sneered. “People nowadays value money over their lives!”
He was furious to be toyed with and taken advantage of. He vowed not to let Skyy, Magnate, and Phantom Net off the hook.
Suddenly, the computer screen began to flicker like crazy.
Why was the computer acting up again?
Derick called the internal line anxiously. “Tell Alaric Webb from the technical department to hurry to the CEO’s office now.”
Alaric rushed over within minutes. He wiped the sweat on his forehead and said, “Boss, another hacker is attacking our
system.
Derick growled, “Again? Could it be Skyy?”
“I’m not sure who it is yet, but it’s likely Skyy,” said Alaric.
Randall’s face darkened. “Alaric, are you saying Reeves Group’s security system is like a market that anyone can enter at will?” he roared.
“Boss, I’m sorry. The hackers haven’t broken in yet. It was my fault for being incompetent last time. The expert you hired has fixed the system since. He removed the virus implanted by Skyy and strengthened the firewall. Therefore, it’s not easy for Skyy to attack the system now.”
Derick heaved a huge sigh of relief.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier; I almost lost my mind thinking that Skyy had broken in again! Fortunately, our security system has been upgraded. Does Skyy think he can bully Reeves Group at will? We’re going to teach him a lesson he won’t forget!” Derick said arrogantly.
Alaric replied awkwardly. “Skyy’s attack this time is even more ferocious as if venting his anger. The attacks are getting stronger and stronger. I’m afraid that if it continues, our security system won’t withstand it.”
Derick was stunned and said in a panic, “Alaric Webb, why aren’t you setting up defense then? Are you going to let Skyy break in again? It’s your fault you didn’t guard our company’s security system last time. That’s why Skyy hacked the system and stole the company’s bidding information. We lost three projects because of that. You must guard it with your life this time around. You can’t let the same thing happen again; do you understand?”
Alaric nodded and said awkwardly, “I understand, Mr. Hunt. I’ll try my best.”
Derick wanted to strangle Alaric. He flew into a rage and said, “What do you mean trying your best? We have to safeguard the system even if we have to die!”
Reeves Group had lost three projects, and Derick was almost sent to Novilia’s branch office. He could not afford to take any more risk as far as the company’s information was concerned.
Suffice it to say, Derick’s reaction could be a tad dramatic, given the circumstance.
Randall’s eyes were filled with mixed emotions. His brows were knotted tightly as he stared at the computer screen without blinking
Skyy’s attacks came in endless waves, so fast that it was impossible to comprehend.
He proved to be a powerful hacker.
However, his most significant disadvantage was that he was suicidal.
