Chapter 40
Chapter 40
Oliver and Milo were glad that their mother was not angry anymore. They heaved a sigh of relief in unison.
Milo planted a big kiss on Christine Paul’s cheek and said childishly. “Mommy, although you’re wearing a wig and your makeup was like a country pumpkin’s, you’re still so beautiful! You’re the most beautiful mommy in the world!”
His flattery was guaranteed to ascend his mother to cloud nine.
Christine pretended to be angry and said, “I will let it go this time. Don’t let it happen again.”
“Got it, Mommy.”
“Good night, Mommy.”
Christine shook her head as she watched her sons walk to their bedroom.
Just then, a message from Xenon appeared on her computer.
“Boss, the money from Reeves Group to find Skyy and Magnate has been transferred to our account. What should I do
next?”
The money had arrived. Christine’s long eyelashes fluttered, her eyes filled with smugness.
She typed on the keyboard like a dancer on stage.
“Feed him some useless information for now!”
Xenon was stunned by her reply, which utterly undermined his fundamental values. His face twisted.
Was his boss joking?
Reeves Group offered 20 million dollars to look for information on Skyy and Magnate. Since it accepted the order, Phantom Net had to dig deep to search for intelligence.
After all, Phantom Net was the most powerful intelligence organization in the world.
Just feeding trashy information to the client was not a wise move.
Reeves Group was no fool.
Xenon typed away pitifully.
“Boss, you can’t be serious, right? Randall Reeves is famous for being the living King of Hell. You can’t get away messing with him like this?”
Christine raised her brows, thinking that Xenon was a coward.
“Skyy and Magnate are the two most mysterious individuals in the world. Even the most insignificant information about them is not common knowledge. If Randall Reeves wants to know more, he must pay more!”
“Boss, are you trying to siphon money from Reeves Group? It’s taking advantage of Randall’s wealth!”
Christine narrowed her eyes; her gaze turned cold.
“This is what doing business is all about. It’s a two–way street. If they want something, they must give me what I want in
return!”
Xenon’s pupils dilated; his boss was unreasonably domineering.
However, lie wondered if such a domineering boss was indeed a married woman.
Xenon’s fingertips trembled slightly.
“Boss, I understand.”
Christine tapped on the keyboard lazily.
“You may leave now.”
Xenon stared at the message on the screen, his heart in turmoil.
He could not suppress his doubts, and his fingers slammed on the keyboard again.
“Boss, are you a married woman for real?”
Xenon regretted it after sending the message. However, the question had haunted him for the past few days, causing him sleepless nights.
Christine’s mouth twitched. Was Xenon trying to court death?
He had the guts to ask if she was a married woman.
Chapter 40
Although she had children, the term did not suit her.
“No.”
Xenon thought his boss would attack him like a vicious storm and send him straight to hell. He did not expect a simple reply. No.
Xenon felt hope blooming in his heart when he saw the message.
He still stood a chance.
“Looks like you’re interested in your boss”
Xenon felt the threat from his boss, but he still mustered the courage to hit the keyboard.
“Boss, do you have a boyfriend? I want to ask if I still have a chance?”
Christine’s forehead twitched.
“A chance?” she was baffled.
“What chance?” Christine typed.
“A chance to reincarnate?” she typed again.
Xenon was dumbfounded, wondering why his boss refused to let him confess his feelings.
Before he could type another word, a new message popped up in the dialog box.
“Skyy and Magnate are my sons!”
Xenon was taken aback and could not utter a word.
His jaw was about to touch the floor, and his head almost exploded.
In the past, Phantom Net had never accepted orders related to Skyy and Magnate, no matter how much money was offered.
Xenon had a hunch his boss had something to do with Skyy and Magnate.
However, no matter how much he racked his brains, he would never have thought it was a mother–son relationship!
Xenon began to doubt his life. He wanted to hit his head against the wall and die!
Skyy was ranked second on the global hacker list. Without 20 years or so of experience under his belt, no one could reach his level.
Magnate was equally untouchable. He was an all–powerful figure in the financial world in the Western Hemisphere. Someone of his achievement would be easily around 40 years old or so.
Xenon’s boss claimed that Skyy and Magnate were her sons.
That would put his boss in another generation.
Xenon’s boss seemed to have sensed his shock.
Another message popped up in the dialog box.
“Don’t call me Boss next time. Call me Foremother!”
Xenon was stunned. He was the Stevens family’s young son, but he had feelings for a woman old enough to be his foremother.
Xenon covered his mouth and burst into tears..
It was another morning at Scenic Bay Villa.
‘Oliver and Milo, it’s time for kindergarten.”
Christine gently knocked on the bedroom door, only to find Milo lying in bed while Oliver stood by him, touching his forehead.
She instantly became nervous.
“What’s wrong, Oliver?”
“Mommy, Milo kicked off his blanket last night and caught a cold.”
“Did you take his temperature?”
“Mommy, he has a slight fever.”
Milo lay in bed and looked at his mother pitifully. “Mommy, I’m not feeling well today. I can’t go to kindergarten, he said softly.
Chapter 40
You can rest at home, my dear. I’ll apply for leave from work.”
Milo quickly waved his hand and said sweetly, “Mommy, I’m fine. Brother will care for me; you have nothing to worry about. Moreover, I’m a skillful doctor and have self–medicated. A slight fever does not bother me. I’ll be good as new after
some rest.
Milo was indeed a gifted practitioner in traditional medicine. His concoction had proven to be effective.
Nevertheless, he was still a child.
“Mommy is worried about leaving you alone at home,” Christine said with concern.
Oliver comforted his mother and said calmly. “Mommy, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Milo. Please go to work. Patients have been flooding the hospital in the past few days. It needs all the staffing it can get. Otherwise, the doctors and patients will equally suffer.”
Christine frowned; Oliver was right. The hospital’s outpatient department was indeed overcrowded of late. If she took leave today, the hospital would probably be in chaos.
Oliver had always been very reassuring. He could take good care of his younger brother.
“Oliver, Mommy will come home immediately after the outpatient consultation. Take good care of your brother. Call me if you need anything.”
Oliver nodded and said calmly, “Mommy, don’t worry. Drive carefully.”
“Okay, I will leave for work now. Milo, call Mommy if you’re not feeling well.”
“Okay, Mommy.”
The boys finally managed to send their mother away.
Milo got up from the bed instantly. “Brother, shall we start now?” he said excitedly.
Oliver turned on the computer. The backlit LCD panel shone on his young and handsome face. A hunter’s instinct overtook him instantly. His eyes glowed with excitement, and he could not suppress the smile on his lips.
He started typing on the keyboard and said, “It’s show time!”
