Chapter 35
Chapter 35
Elizabeth Reeves was surprised at Christine Paul’s observation.
Recently, her eyesight was not as good as before. However, no one around her noticed it except Christine, who had provent to be an observant and ethical doctor.
“Your leechcraft is outstanding, doctor. My vision has indeed deteriorated over the last few years, lamented Elizabeth
“Mrs. Reeves, your vision loss can be alleviated by taking medicine on time, but ultimately, surgery is the fastest way to resolve the problem, advised Christine.
“There you go again. As I said, I don’t want surgery.”
Elizabeth’s face darkened instantly, determined not to undergo any surgery.
“All right then, Mrs. Reeves. If you don’t want to undergo surgery, take the medicine on time, okay?”
Christine was at a loss for what to do. Knowing older people behaved like children sometimes, she could only coax Elizabeth patiently.
Elizabeth’s brow furrowed. “I will take the medicine on time if it is not so bitter!” she coinplained.
Elizabeth looked aggrieved at the thought of taking the medicine.
Christine pondered momentarily and said, “I’ll ground the ingredients and mix them with the jujube to form pills. Each pill weighs about 3 grams and is easy to swallow. Take four pills a day. This way, the medicine won’t taste bitter.”
Instead of taking bitter medicine, Elizabeth could take a pill orally for the same results.
Her eyes instantly lit up; she was overjoyed. Christine had won Elizabeth over with her clever solution.
Apart from her superb medical knowledge and skills, Christine proved empathic too. Elizabeth was glad she found such a considerate doctor.
Her eyes lit up as she gave Christine, aka Nancy, a once over.
Although the latter looked ordinary, she proved to be a capable person. Not only was Nancy a renowned brain surgeon widely known as the Hand of God, but she was also proficient in traditional medicine. Her superb leechcraft and ethics made her a rare gem in the medical profession.
“Can you remove your mask and let me take a good look at you?” Elizabeth asked.
Christine was stunned. She did not understand why the latter suddenly wanted her to remove her mask.
“You saved my life, yet I still don’t know what you look like.
Elizabeth looked kindly at Christine. “Mrs. Reeves, I’m just doing my job as a doctor. I am not your lifesaver,” Christine said humbly
Elizabeth laughed heartily, saying, “Let’s not talk about saving my life. Can I get to know you as a friend?”
Christine took off her mask to let Elizabeth take a closer look. Her pretty oval face and rosy lips were exquisite, albeit her skin was a little sallow. Her eyes were lively behind large black–framed glasses, bookish and intelligent.
Elizabeth wished that Christine and her grandson could become a couple.
“You’re quite a pretty young lady. However, you don’t seem to know how to dress up. You’ll look outstanding after our family stylist works on you.”
The servant by Elizabeth’s side overheard her comment, thinking the elderly lady had double standards.
Elizabeth previously got rid of a female medical staff who treated her because the latter had makeup on. But now she wanted the Reeves family stylist to put makeup on Christine Paul.
Incidentally, the Reeves family’s stylist was internationally renowned and only dressed those in the upper echelon of society.
Christine put on her mask again and smiled. “Don’t flatter me, Mrs. Reeves. I’m a doctor and must wear a mask at work. Dressing up is a waste of makeup and not my habit.”
“Grandma, some women look like flowers when they put on makeup. But she will still look like a flower pot, no matter
what!”
Randall Reeves suddenly appeared from nowhere. His vicious words infuriated Christine; she was so embarrassed that she
almost died.
Why did he call her a flower pot instead of a flower if she had makeup on?
Did he imply she had a big face? He must be blind! Her face was small and delicate.
Christine would have beaten him to death if she was not on the Reeves family’s premises.
Chapter 35
Randall looked at Christine calmly, unfazed by her furious reaction. However, he secretly enjoyed every minute of making
fun of her.
Elizabeth was rendered speechless by her grandson’s mean behavior.
Randall was destined to stay single if he carried on this way.
Just then, Elizabeth noticed the prescription Christine had written. She looked stunned and said, “Dr. Nancy, can you show me your prescription”
Elizabeth took the prescription, and her surprise instantly turned into amazement.
“Your handwriting is excellent, Dr. Nancy. The script flows from hard, thin strokes to smooth and vigorous ones in a single breath. The letters are broad and majestic. Your writing is strong and imposing, utterly extraordinary!”
The old lady was impressed and full of praise. “Your writing style is very similar to the calligrapher Okeanos.”
Christine looked at Elizabeth, puzzled. “Mrs. Reeves, do you know Okeanos too?” she asked.
“Although Okeanos is a calligrapher who only appeared on the art scene in the past two years, his penmanship is vigorous and powerful, precipitation of thousands of years of the letterform. Few can write so well nowadays. Sigh! Times have changed, and computers and mobile phones dominate the world today. No one writes anymore. Dr. Nancy, your handwriting is just like you, outstanding indeed.”
Elizabeth looked at Christine fondly. The more she looked at the latter, the more she liked her.
Randall’s
‘s gaze went from Christine’s writing to her person. His eyes darkened.
“This woman turned out to be a treasure,” he thought; he could not help but want to know more about her.
Randall’s greedy stare, as if he wanted to undress her, made Christine extremely uneasy.
He teased her that she looked like a flower pot not long ago. Now he leered at her like a hungry wolf.
Christine wanted to poke Randall’s eyes out!
Just then, she saw the pendulum clock in Elizabeth’s room pointing at 4:30 in the afternoon. It was time for her to pick up her two brats.
Meanwhile, at Star Kindergarten.
Lindsay Reeves tagged along Oliver and Milo Paul like a little tail. She rarely smiled, yet she could not stop smiling around the two boys all day.
Lindsay had never felt so happy attending kindergarten before.
“Brother, Little Tail’s doe eyes are like Mommy’s. She looks cute when she smiles,” said Milo innocently.
“Yeah”
Oliver responded with a single syllable.
Milo continued, “Shall we make friends with her, huh? I haven’t made up my mind yet. She’s our half–sister, after all. I should hate her but I can’t bear to see others bully her.”
“No one can bully our little sister, for sure.”
Oliver, who had always been lukewarm, suddenly said. Milo was surprised.
After school, Lindsay handed a small note to her half–brothers.
“Brothers, you have protected me. I want to invite you to play at my house to thank you.”
Little Tail invited them to play at her house.
That would mean the Reeves family residence.
Oliver and Milo looked at each other. The younger boy then whispered into his brother’s ear.
“Are we going, Brother?”
“I’m not going!”
“Why not, Brother?”
Milo frowned. Before he could continue, Oliver asked instead, “Why are we going to the Reeves family residence, anyway?”
Milo was a little anxious. Knowing he would see his scumbag dad at the residence, he wanted to go.
Milo wanted to dope his scumbag dad. He had successfully concocted an infertility powder that would end his father’s family line; it would come in handy then.
“Brother, have you forgotten my medicine? My medicine!”
Chapter 35
Milo crazily hinted to Oliver that he wanted to strike his scumbag dad.
Leave the revenge to me. Mommy will be angry if we visit the Reeves family residence,” Oliver said knowingly.
