Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Duncan had been obsessed with Christine for six years! And he was still in love with her.
Blanche’s face twisted because of resentment, and she gritted her teeth hard.
Meanwhile, a middle–aged man in a decent suit and imposing manner strode toward them quickly.
“How’s Daniel?” he asked Sabrina.
The middle–aged man was Terrence Foster, the head of the Foster family.
When Daniel had the accident, Terrence was abroad. He took the earliest flight back home after getting the news.
Tears welled up in Sabrina’s eyes. She told Terrence, “At least Daniel survived.”
Hearing about Daniel’s survival did not make Terrence look relieved.
His eyes were still sharp, and one would be frightened under his gaze.
“Where’s Daniel now?”
“Dad, Daniel’s in an intensive care unit. It’s not a good time for you to visit him right now. I’ll lead you to see him once his
condition stabilizes”
Terrence nodded slightly. His brow wrinkled deeply, and his eyes seemed sterner.
“Duncan, you didn’t handle your brother’s accident well.”
“Terrence, Duncan tried so hard to save Daniel’s life.”
Terrence said with a cold face. “And you let me down. You’re the mistress of our family, and you panicked when things happened. It’s indeed important to save Daniel’s life, but the reputation of our family matters more. I saw pictures of the car accident and heard gossip about Daniel, his wife, and his lover. Do you know how badly those things influence our family?”
“Dad, it’s not Mom’s fault. It’s mine. I didn’t handle it. Sorry that I failed you.”
“Duncan, you don’t need to blame yourself. You’ve already done well.”
“Do you think he’s done well? His brother had an affair! He was supposed to make a deal with the media reporters and stop them from writing stories about Danielt Instead, he let the stories of Daniel’s adultery spread. Yeah, well done! We have blue blood, but now we are the laughingstock in Archiland, thanks to your sons!”
Terrence’s voice raised as he talked, and so was his rage.
Hearing Terrence’s angry accusation of Duncan, Blanche stepped forward, trying to smooth things over.
“Mr. Foster, I know I’m not part of the family and have no right to comment on your family matters. But I think the person who disgraced your family’s reputation was neither Mrs. Foster nor Duncan. It was Emily.”
Duncan cast an icy glance at Blanche and said disdainfully, “Oh, shut up. You know you have no right to comment, yet you still overstep your bounds.”
Blanche’s face darkened, and she clamped her lips together. However, Terrence wanted to know more about what had happened, so he signaled Blanche to go on.
“Tell me more about it.”
Blanche turned her gaze to Terrence, and a trace of proudness appeared on her face.
“Daniel and that celebrity were merely sitting in the same car, but Emily refused to let it go and made a scene in the street. She should be responsible for Daniel’s car accident. Daniel has nothing to do with that celebrity. Even if he does have an affair with her, as his wife, Emily should have believed that he was only having fun and should have put up with it. As the daughter–in–law of the Foster family, Emily should be ashamed for not caring about Foster’s reputation. Besides, she put Daniel’s life on the line. She didn’t deserve to be Daniel’s wife.”
Terrence glared at Sabrina and snapped. “Give that woman the divorce agreement and never allow her to return to our family.”
“The car crash is an accident, Terrence. And it’s Daniel’s fault that he’s cheated on Emily. How could we…”
Before Sabrina could finish, Terrence cut her short ruthlessly.
“The men of the Foster family will never do anything wrong. You got to remember that. Our family’s reputation matters most. I won’t change my mind, and you just do what I said.”
Terrence was overbearing and relentless, and his decision was non–negotiable.
Blanche became even prouder.
“I still have some things to do. I should go. Make things right.”
Chapter 34
Terrence turned to leave. After a few steps, he jerked his head and stared at Duncan, snarling, “How long do you want to dress in that white coat? Haven’t you gotten enough of this? You need to resign from your job and go back to work in Foster Group. Don’t fool around anymore.”
Terrence had always been disappointed by Duncan being a doctor. He hoped Duncan could work at their family’s company. Duncan had outsmarted Daniel since they were young, and Terrence had long decided that Duncan was his successor to lead the Foster Group.
But all Duncan wanted to do was to be a doctor, which irritated Terrence.
“Dad, I’m not fooling around, alright? I’m helping people and saving lives!”
“Helping people and saving lives? That’s hilarious. Do you think that’s more important than being the heir of Foster Group?” Blanche’s eyes lit up. She had bet that Terrence would choose Duncan as his heir. After all, Daniel was merely a shallow playboy.
“Mr. Foster, you may rest assured. I’ll help you persuade Duncan to resign. Several generations of your family had worked hard to establish Foster Group. I know it means everything to you.”
Terrence looked at Blanche from head to toe before he nodded with satisfaction and left.
Blanche’s brow went up triumphantly since she finally got Terrence’s attention.
Duncan surveyed Blanche coldly and said, “Who do you think you are to persuade me?”
“Duncan, why do you have to be so mean to me? I’m doing this for your own good.” Blanche pretended to be pitiful. She turned to Sabrina and said, “Mrs. Foster, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said those words to Mr. Foster. But if I didn’t do this, Mr. Foster would have blamed you and Duncan.”
Blanche said with great grievance. Her tears were about to drop, making one feel sorry for her.
What she did not expect was that Sabrina had seen too many girls like her.
Sabrina raised her brows and said with disgust, “That’s our family business and has nothing to do with you.”
Duncan disliked her, and Sabrina disapproved of her.
“I’m sorry to make you angry. I should probably get going.”
Blanche walked away with a pitiful look. By the time she turned around, her eyes were fierce and malicious. She thought, “Fine, you both like Christine. But Terrence will never approve it.”
Terrence would never allow a notorious woman like Christine to marry into the Foster family.
Christine was also Nancy, the famous and honorable brain surgeon who was called the Hand of God. So what?
When all people knew that Christine was the one who got that old guy killed, what would they think of her?
Blanche’s sneer deepened. She wanted to see Christine fall hard at such a high place.
She could not wait to see Christine be spit on by those who once adored her.
At Reeves‘ house.
Christine came to the Reeves‘ house as Nancy to diagnose Elizabeth.
“Mrs. Reeves, do you mind me giving a check on you?”
Elizabeth allowed Christine to check on her, hearing her heartbeats, checking her eyesight, and things like that.
Elizabeth’s heartbeats were stable, and her illness did not seem to be worsened. If Elizabeth wanted to get a radical cure, she needed surgery,
“Mrs. Reeves, you still need to take the pills and herbs. Give me a minute, and I’ll prescribe you something.”
Christine wrote down the note while continue saying to Elizabeth, “Mrs. Reeves, I’m writing down herbs that are good for your health. They have fewer side effects, but since they are mild, you won’t feel them kick in fast. Don’t worry about that. Take them twice a day, alright? Also, you’re experiencing a decreased ability to see. I’ll add something that can improve your eyesight.”
