Chapter 33
Blanche glared fiercely and thought, “Christine, you’re really something, aren’t you? To think that you can drag someone back from the gates of hell. How could you ruin my plans? I’ll make sure that you pay dearly for messing things upt
“That’s great. Thank god!” Sabrina said emotionally as her eyes lit up. “Where’s Dr. Nancy? Quick, take me to see her. I want to thank her personally for the tremendous work.”
Duncan gently grasped his mother’s shoulder and warmly said, “Mom, Dr. Nancy must be exhausted after that complex and risky surgery. She must be tired and having her rest now. Let’s not disturb her. Perhaps you can thank her later.”
Sabrina was disappointed when she heard this. Other than her desire to thank Dr. Nancy for her miraculous efforts, she also wanted to clarify a very important issue that had troubled her.
She hesitated momentarily before softly saying. “Duncan, I find that Dr. Nancy resembles… Christine.”
When Blanche heard what Sabrina said, it was as if a bomb had exploded in her mind. She could not believe her ears.
How could this old hag recognize that wretched Christine when she had a surgical mask over her face?
It looked like Sabrina had not forgotten her even after these six years.
Not to mention that Sabrina was so cold and constantly filled with disdain for her.
The only reason why she bothered to entertain her was because she was Duncan’s mother. Otherwise, she could not care less about that old woman.
Blanche seethed with anger but then forced a smile and said, “Mrs. Foster, how can Dr. Nancy be my beloved sister, Christine? It’s impossible!”
Sabrina rolled her eyes scornfully and replied contemptuously, “Why can’t Dr. Nancy be Christine?”
Blanche said apologetically. “Mrs. Foster, at this point, I might as well tell you what happened to my sister. Years ago, she had a one–night stand with Mr. Erickson that left him dead. My father was so upset about the incident that he sent her overseas for the shame that she had brought to the family.”
Sabrina glared coldly at Blanche when she dug up that sordid incident. “There must be something fishy about that, and I don’t believe any of it. Don’t you malign Christine!”
So many years had passed, and Sabrina still refused to believe that Christine had an affair with a creepy old man. It looked like she would not even believe it if that man was a talented and wealthy young man.
Blanche fumed angrily.
All the major news networks covered this scandal, yet this old maid chose to believe in Christine.
She was thankful for her mother, who insisted that her father send Christine abroad.
Had she not done that, Christine and Duncan might have been married.
Blanche frowned and said. “Mrs. Foster, it’s amazing that you still believe in my sister. Our family was mercilessly rebuked until my father was so emotionally devastated that he was bedridden for three months. Not only that, it took him half a year to muster the courage to venture out of the house. It was unfortunate that my sister had disappointed both you and my father.”
“Blanche, why are you speaking ill of your sister?”
Duncan narrowed his eyes as he looked disapprovingly at Blanche.
Blanche raged within bur dared not express her displeasure. “I did not denigrate my sister, Duncan. Why would I do that to my beloved sister? I was touched by Mrs. Foster’s unconditional support for my sister. However, my sister had indeed let Mrs. Foster down by her misdeeds. She even bore Mr. Erickson’s son when she was abroad.”
She bore Mr. Erickson’s son when she was overseas?
Blanche’s words shocked Duncan and Sabrina so much that they looked at each other in dismay.
“What did you say, Blanche? Christine bore that old man a son when she was overseas?”
Blanche was ecstatic when she saw how shocked Sabrina was and continued, “That’s right, Mrs. Foster. Initially, my father wanted her to ride out the media storm abroad, but she gave birth to Mr. Erickson’s twin boys. My father was so upset with her that he refused to let her return”
“How could that be?”
Sabrina yelled in utter disbelief.
Sabrina’s outburst was music to Blanche’s ears.
“Please don’t get so worked up, Mrs. Foster. This is precisely why I kept it from you all these years. You trusted my sister so much, yet she was entirely different. Not only did she cause that man’s death, she even gave birth to that man’s sons. It’s too

unbecoming of her.”
Sabrina glared at Blanche and snarled, “The unbecoming one is your family. How could you all let her raise two young children on her own abroad? How can your family be so heartless?”
Sabrina was beside herself when she heard what her best friend’s daughter, Christine, had to go through alone. She practically raised Christine, and she treated her as her own daughter.
She could not imagine that her beloved Christine had to endure all the hardships when she was alone abroad with two young children.
Sabrina trembled angrily as her heart ached beyond imagination.
Blanche was stunned.
She thought that in saying these, she could finally smother Sabrina’s affection for Christine.
Unexpectedly, not only did Sabrina not despise Christine for what she did, she even blamed the Pauls for abandoning her to a life of hardships in a foreign land.
Had this old woman lost her mind?
“Mrs. Foster, what Christine did brought shame to our family. I wanted to help my sister but was stopped by my father.”
“Where the hell did your father send Christine? If the Pauls don’t care, the Foster family will!”
Sabrina declared resolutely.
Christine, who was hiding around the corner, was moved to tears.
She was hiding from Mrs. Foster because she was unsure what she thought of her.
She could no longer control her emotions after hearing what Mrs. Foster said.
To think that Mrs. Foster still believed in her after six long years.
She believed in her regardless of what the others said.
She was not upset with her, nor did she despise her when she heard she had given to a pair of twins. She was far more concerned about her well–being when she was alone overseas.
She knew that Mrs. Foster had never stopped looking for her in these six years.
Even after her incident, Mrs. Forster still wanted her to be married to Duncan. It was she who had avoided her as she knew that she could never be married to Duncan, given the circumstances.
She also did not want to burden Duncan, but she never expected Mrs. Foster to remain so fond of her after all these years.
Christine walked away hastily, afraid she might break down emotionally.
She did not want anyone to see her cry.
“My sister does not deserve your love and affection. She had become the laughingstock of Archiland after her sordid affair with Mr. Erickson. How could an upstanding man like Duncan raise someone else’s illegitimate children? That’s totally unfair to him.”
“Not at all. As long as Christine agrees, I will take care of her and the boys.”
Duncan said with intense heartache and determination.
Blanche was flabbergasted by what she just heard.
Madness, lunacy, Had they lost their minds?
