Chapter 17
Chapter 17
When Christine mentioned the name “Lindsay, Randall became even more confident that the woman in front of him was the one who had been trying everything to get close to him before.
Randall should have found Christine annoying, but now Randall found her somewhat intriguing.
What kind of tricks could this woman play to capture Randall’s attention further?
While Christine was preoccupied with cursing Randall in her mind, she failed to notice that his gaze toward her had become. increasingly playful.
“Can you cure Lindsay?” Randall asked.
“Only now do you remember your daughter’s illness? You’re nothing but a clueless oaf.
“What were you doing all this time when you abandoned Lindsay’s mother?” Christine whispered in her mind.
“As a doctor, I will do my best to treat Lindsay, but you should also know that healing a troubled heart requires more than just medical treatment.”
Christine spoke with deliberate emphasis, almost enunciating each word, expressing her strong desire to knock some sense into this despicable man’s head.
“How much money can you earn at the hospital?” Randall asked.
Christine was taken aback, wondering why Randall asked such a question.
“By asking this question, is Mr. Reeves trying to recruit me to switch jobs?”
Christine calmly spoke, her gaze toward Randall slightly narrowed, with a hint of coolness in her eyes. There was no trace of fear in Christine’s demeanor.
“Well,” Randall replied.
Randall nodded slightly, his eyes deep and inscrutable.
“How much does Healthstone Hospital pay you? I, Randall Reeves, will give you ten times that amount,” Randall declared firmly, leaving no room for refusal. “Come work as a private doctor for the Reeves family.”
Grandmother was unwilling to be hospitalized, so having this woman as the Reeves’s family doctor would be the best solution.
Upon hearing the significant monetary offer, Christine, the mother of the dominant figure in the Western financial world, regarded such a sum with disdain.
However, Christine still had to remain low–key and avoid revealing any flaws or vulnerabilities.
Christine’s voice slightly lifted as she said, “Indeed, the Reeves family is remarkably wealthy, displaying such extravagant generosity. Although I am tempted, the patients at this hospital also rely on me. I assume you are concerned about the condition of Mrs. Reeves? As long as she takes her medication on time, there should be no immediate issues. I will assess the test results after she has taken the medicine and then determine the next steps for treatment. During this time, family members must pay attention to Mrs. Reeves’s emotions, try accommodating her, and avoid causing her anger or frustration. Let her rest well, maintain a balanced diet, and avoid unhealthy food.”
Christine felt that her words were impeccable, but she failed to notice that Randall’s gaze toward her had grown even more profound.
“This woman had been trying every means to get close to him, and now he was actively giving her a chance, yet she still refused to accept it.
“Instead, she played a game of cat and mouse, teasing and eluding him,” Randall thought to himself.
Randall stared unwaveringly at Christine, maintaining a calm and profound demeanor.
“Dr. Nancy, are you rejecting me?” Randall asked.
As Randall approached Christine once again, she became fully alert and vigilant.
She smiled awkwardly and said, “Mr. Reeves, Lindsay has been waiting outside for a long time, and Mrs. Reeves as well. I need to go and fetch Mrs. Reeves’s medication. I’ll take my leave now.”
After saying that, Christine quickly made her escape, as if unwilling to be caught, leaving Randall with an even more profound gaze.
When Christine opened the door, she discovered that Lindsay was in a posture of leaning against the door, eavesdropping. Upon seeing Christine come out, Lindsay flashed an awkward smile and quickly lowered her head to write something on a small sketchbook.
“Is the conversation over? How do you feel about my daddy?”
Chapter 17
Christine was taken aback. She thought, “Why am I being asked about my feelings toward Lindsay’s father? It made them seem like they were on a blind date or something.”
Feeling awkward. Christine quickly changed the subject, diverting from the question.
“Lindsay, how about we fetch medication for your great–grandmother?”
Lindsay obediently nodded, and Christine quickly grabbed Lindsay’s hand and hurried away. Christine didn’t want Randall to see the awkward question Lindsay had written, fearing that it might lead him to misunderstand.
When Christine finished retrieving the medication, she returned to the hospital room with one hand holding Lindsay’s hand and the other carrying the medicine.
Christine noticed that Randall had also returned to the hospital room, and his gaze seemed as if he could see through Christine. She inexplicably felt a sense of unease.
At that moment, Daisy approached Lindsay with a look of confusion and asked, “Lindsay, why are you holding this lady’s hand? Do you really like her?”
Lindsay nodded and tightly held the lady’s hand, indicating her affirmative answer.
The two children from Christine’s family also liked holding her hand, but none held it as tightly as Lindsay did. It felt like being bound by a rubber band, so tight and secure.
It seemed that this little darling easily felt insecure.
It was also Elizabeth’s first time seeing Lindsay being so close to someone else. She scrutinized Christine from head to toc.
“You are called Nancy, right?”
Christine nodded, and Elizabeth asked, “How old are you this year?”
“27” Christine replied.
Christine didn’t understand why Mrs. Reeves suddenly asked about her age.
“To become a world–renowned neurologist at 27, you certainly have talent, Elizabeth remarked.
“Mrs. Reeves, you’re too kind,” Christine replied modestly.
Christine modestly responded, but for some reason, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Elizabeth’s praise held a deeper meaning.
At that moment, Lindsay wrote something on the small sketchbook.
[Do you have a boyfriend?]
Christine was momentarily stunned, but Elizabeth couldn’t help but smile and said, “Our little darling is truly clever. She always knows what this old lady is thinking.”
Christine awkwardly smiled and told herself not to overthink it.
The elderly lady was just a bit curious about gossip since she was worried about Christine being unable to find a suitable match due to Christine’s unattractive appearance.
“I look so plain. That’s why I don’t have a boyfriend,” Christine replied.
As Christine spoke, she adjusted her black–framed glasses. Meanwhile, Lindsay wrote something on the small sketchbook. [Lindsay is sick, and great–grandmother is sick too. Our family has no money, so my father is offering himself as collateral!] Lindsay presented the small sketchbook, and both Daisy and Elizabeth laughed uncontrollably.
Their little darling turned out to be incredibly adorable.
Randall’s eyebrows raised slightly, showing a trace of surprise in his eyes.
His little Lindsay had always been reticent and rarely joked around, let alone teasing him. How could things suddenly become different between her and that woman, considering they had only known each other for a short time?
Not to mention that Lindsay even attempts to sell him away.
Christine had an embarrassed expression on her face. The Reeves family was one of the four major financial conglomerates in Archiland, so it was rather unexpected for them to say that they had no money.
Was this all just a joke?
However, she wouldn’t dampen the spirits of such an adorable little darling.
Christine crouched down and said to Lindsay, “Little darling, doctors have a compassionate heart. Give me a kiss, and we’ll forget about the medical expenses.”
Upon hearing that, Lindsay’s face turned even redder with a beaming smile, and Christine pulled down her mask.
Chapter 17
As Lindsay looked at Christine, her eyes sparkled brightly with recognition. That was Lindsay’s mommy.
Lindsay planted a kiss on her mommy’s face, and Christine felt her heart melting as she sensed the soft and adorable scent.
If Christine’s daughter were still alive, she must have been as adorable as this little darling.
After kissing her mommy, Lindsay felt like her heart had sprouted wings, fluttering and soaring upward.
She quickly wrote on the small sketchbook.
[Lindsay wants to stay in the hospital.]
Everyone was instantly stunned, especially Director Schuman.
Director Schuman was already extremely worried and anxious as Mrs. Reeves did not want to be hospitalized.
Now, Lindsay, the little princess who’s the apple of the entire Reeves family, suddenly wanted to be hospitalized.
He would have to resign and leave if anything were to go wrong while she was staying at their hospital.
