Chapter 16
Lindsay smiled sweetly and nodded while Christine diligently worked on the computer.
Then Lindsay began to do the task.
Upon completing all the test questions, Christine couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw that Lindsay’s IQ exceeded one hundred and eighty, rivaling that of her child, Oliver.
Never before had she encountered a child who matched Oliver’s intelligence level.
Notably, this little girl possessed a remarkable intellect and bore a striking resemblance to Christine herself, creating an inexplicable sense of closeness between them.
Christine gently placed her hand on Lindsay’s shoulder and praised her, “Lindsay, you are exceptionally bright. My little. son’s IQ doesn’t come close to yours. You are truly remarkable.”
Lindsay’s heart swelled with happiness upon hearing Christine’s words. “Mommy has also acknowledged my intelligence, considering me to be smarter than her little son. Does it mean that Mommy likes me more?” she thought happily.
“Lindsay, why don’t you wait outside for a moment? I need to have a conversation with your daddy.”
Now that Christine had gained some insight into Lindsay’s disposition, she recognized that the only way to uncover the reason behind Lindsay’s reluctance to speak was through getting to know her better, starting with her father, Randall. Obediently. Lindsay made her way to the door. Christine opened the door, revealing Randall with his back to the window, silhouetted against the light. He exuded a captivating and self–assured aura that could make one’s heart skip a beat with just a glance.
“Mr. Reeves, please come in.”
Christine’s voice was raw, devoid of any emotion. Were it not for Randall being Lindsay’s father, and Christine needed to talk to him to understand Lindsay’s situation, she would have preferred not to spend any time with him.
Christine’s demeanor appeared distant and aloof, leaving Randall feeling dismissed or summoned, all at Christine’s whim.
Randall’s lips curved into a mysterious smile.
Christine turned to Lindsay and said, “Lindsay, please wait here for a little while. I will be done talking to your daddy soon.”
However, Lindsay picked up her board and scribbled a message on it.
[Please talk to my daddy a little while longer.]
Christine didn’t know Lindsay’s hidden meaning. She smiled

Just as Christine finished speaking, an unexpected force pulled her over and pressed her against the wall.
A sharp pain gnawed at her back, causing her eyebrows to furrow in discomfort.
“What’s wrong with him? Does he have a penchant for casually cornering women against walls?” Christine thought.
“I didn’t expect you to be so nice to me,” Randall remarked. “Your attitude when you called me wasn’t this gracious.”
Christine froze, unsure if she had displayed a bad attitude just now.
She hadn’t thought so, but now she questioned how nice she should be before him.
“Mr. Reeves, I apologize if my behavior upset you when I called you in. Please release me now.”
Being pinned against the wall by Randall again, Christine just wanted to break free as soon as possible at this time.
Yet, despite her apology, Randall showed no intention of letting her go.
“Is he insane?” Christine thought.
She had already disguised as a woman in her forties. What else did he want from her?
Didn’t he even have any standards?
Randall moved even closer, his high nose almost touching Christine’s mask. She could even feel his breath gently brushing against her.
Christine was so nervous that she couldn’t breathe, and the hairs on the back of her neck prickled.
Why was Randall invading her personal space like this?
Anxiety gripped Christine, and she felt thankful for the mask covering her face as if it shielded her from even greater terror.

Randall lifted Christine’s jaw lightly and said in his deep, magnetic voice, “I can’t help but see a resemblance in you to someone.” With a slight ing, he pulled down her mask, and at that moment, Christine was stunned.
That mask was her shield.
She desperately tried to pull it back up, but Randall’s firm grasp pinned her hands against the wall.
Unable to face him directly, she turned her face to the side, hoping that the elaborate makeup she wore would obscure her identity.
“Mr. Reeves, release me. Regardless of whom I may resemble, you have no right to hold me against the wall!“,
Randall gazed down at the woman beneath him, who had deliberately adorned her face to resemble a reckless individual. How could she still exude such confidence? Hadn’t she realized that her hands were so fair they gave away her disguise?
“What an intriguing woman.” Randall thought.
Leaning close to Christine’s ear, he whispered, “You don’t really resemble her. She possesses flawless, fair skin and elegant hands. Her dark, lustrous hair emits an enchanting fragrance, and she boasts a captivating, curvaceous figure.”
Randall’s words tugged at Christine’s heartstrings. Was he complimenting her? She had never thought of him to be the kind to give compliments.
Strangely enough, a glimmer of joy sparked within her.
After all, his words were words of praise for her. No woman wouldn’t feel pleased when praised.
Yet, just as Christine was relishing the compliment, Randall’s playful banter reached her ears.
“Unfortunately, that woman is a bimbo.”
The color drained from Christine’s face upon hearing this.
Bimbo? This man was insinuating that she was a silly woman. Didn’t he know that she was a genius doctor with a superior IQ? He was the silly one. She clenched her teeth, fighting the urge to go up and bite him.
Randall observed Christine’s furious expression from his embrace and couldn’t help feeling an inexplicable delight in his
heart.
“Mr. Reeves, release me. I’m here to discuss your daughter’s condition with you.”
Hearing Christine’s words, Randall let go of her and said, “Alright.”
Randall complied and turned toward his chair while Christine hastily pulled the mask up to cover her face again, hiding her seething emotions.
Behind his back, Christine gritted her teeth and longed to punch him in the face.
But her professional attire reminded her that she was a doctor now and couldn’t act on her impulses.
“Based on my consultation with Lindsay just now, it seems her aphasia results from the absence of motherly love. Forgive me for asking, but is something wrong with Lindsay’s mother?”
“Lindsay doesn’t have a mother,” replied Randall, his voice icy, mirroring the coldness in his eyes.
Christine was taken aback. How could someone not have a mother? People didn’t simply materialize out of thin air. Yet, it was evident that Randall wanted nothing to do with Lindsay’s mother.
He was indeed ruthless. No matter what, Lindsay’s mother gave birth to Lindsay, but now he didn’t even want to acknowledge her existente.
Oliver and Milo were right. He was an irresponsible person who only enjoyed the sex but shirked the responsibility. Men could be so irresponsible sometimes, especially individuals like Randall, who seemed to disregard others‘ feelings. Perhaps Randall’s indifference caused so much harm to Lindsay, who longed so deeply for her mother’s love.
“I can understand why Lindsay behaves this way.”
Lindsay yearned for motherly affection all the time, but the absence of her mother, coupled with her father’s refusal even to discuss it, made her sink into profound sadness.
Over time, this emotional burden has taken its toll on her psyche.
It made her withdraw from others and refuse to communicate.
