The Prodigy Antaris - a secret World of magic #1

Chapter 30

Evelyn

We went to the beach, and even though Devas told me we needed to talk, he remained silent. I didn't know if he was afraid of me or still contemplating how to reject me. The silence that I once enjoyed had now become a heavy burden, and I nervously walked beside him through the sand. He only glanced at me from time to time, and when we had been walking side by side for some time, he suddenly stopped, and I followed suit.

"Do you know who I am?... Who am I to you?" he asked me as he nervously ran his hand through his hair.

I simply nodded and waited for what he would say next. I braced myself for rejection and pain, as I didn't know anything else.

"I'm sorry..." Devas said quietly.

"I'm sorry that I'm not someone else. I apologize for just being a demon. I understand if you reject me; you have every right to do so. You are perfect in every way, and I am merely a demon. I am not deserving of your consideration as a soulmate. I'm not worthy of being looked at by you. I will accept your rejection," Devas murmured quickly, his gaze focused on the ocean, filled with shame.

I watched his beautiful face as he stared so intently at the water. Everything about him was so unique and desirable. He was the most beautiful thing I had seen in more than a hundred years: masculine and funny, kind-hearted and compassionate. I couldn't have asked for more.

He waited for my confirmation of his words, but when he didn't get it, he looked me in the eyes.

"It's okay if you reject me," he said to me.

Rejecting him... how could I do that when everything in me wanted him?

"Devas..." I whispered after I found the courage. His eyes were fixated on me. He was expecting the worst.

But instead of saying anything, I hugged him.

He returned my hug, and we stood hugging for a while without saying anything. His presence was like a dream from which I never wanted to wake up. I had lived in isolation for so long, without love, without closeness, that this intimacy with him meant more to me than life itself as an immortal. His body was strong, but the gentle touch of my hug revealed his vulnerability. He took a deep breath, inhaling my scent deeply. I looked into his eyes, and the tender touch of our lips ignited fireworks within me. Our kiss deepened, and when we were breathless, he placed his forehead against mine, holding my face with both hands.

"How am I supposed to reject you when you know that soulmates can't live without each other? How am I supposed to reject you when I didn't even know what I was missing for decades until I met you?" I asked him, my voice shaking.

Devas looked at my face and a smile showed his relief.

"You are what was destined for me since birth, and I don't care if you are a demon. You are mine. My Devas," I whispered while stroking his face.

"So you don't want to reject me?" he asked, confused.

"No! I want you... I just can't lose my immortality until I have the sword safe," I answered.

His face was relieved, and he was happy. He lifted me into his arms and spun me in a circle.

After the royal couple announced their pregnancy and there was a small celebration, I noticed the strong sense of solidarity among them all. They were a tightly-knit community bonded by deep friendship and loyalty. Devas danced with me that night, and though he didn't speak a word, his eyes conveyed so much.

The following day, King Avery entrusted me with hiding the sword within a painting. At first, I had doubts about the righteousness of it. However, my conviction grew rapidly as I experienced the immense power of the magic shared between Avery, myself, and my gifts. Together, we ensured the sword's security.

"I promise you that we will always protect you and the sword. You are safe here and welcome to stay in our community. Maybe you can start a new life here..." King Avery promised, and I knew he meant it.

His sincere manner and that of his companion Iris brought me confidence. I spent the next few months in Antaris with people I really liked.

I learned about all the beings that I had no idea even existed. They showed and explained to me their powers and gifts, and I learned about the history of magical beings. I also learned about soulmates and began to understand the strong connection they shared.

Friendships developed, and for the first time, I didn't feel particularly different or accepted. I didn't have to pretend, and I wasn't afraid of rejection because they proved and showed me every day that this community accepted and loved my presence. Devas showed this much more than anyone else. At first, I was very shy around him, but over time I learned to understand and love his funny and lovable way. He showered me with care and love whenever he could.

Because he, just like me, was a being who lived for decades without love and only learned here what love, friendship, and compassion meant.

And after the wedding of the royal couple, I was sure that the time had finally come for me to be happy and loved.

"What are you doing?" Devas asked in surprise as the pink ring around my eyes began to fade after I spoke in a language that was foreign to him.

"I have renounced the immortality of my people," I declared.

He was surprised, and when he whispered my name, overwhelmed by what he understood, I was already no longer an immortal.

"I would rather spend a single life with you than live through all the ages of the world alone. And so I choose you and renounce immortal life!" I announced.

I was overwhelmed by the feelings that were now fully revealed after my liberation from immortal life. Devas was my one true and eternal love. That night, we sealed our bond as soulmates completely. We were united in body and soul, with everything we were. But that night, not only did Devas and I reunite, but also with someone I had longed for.

In my dream, a light appeared so bright and warm that it blinded me. After the light dimmed, a man appeared. An angel, I could feel his power. He stood before me strong, with compassionate eyes and a sad face.

"My child... I never wanted to leave you. You are my only child, and I have longed for you since you were born. I always looked at you from afar and was always by your side, even though you didn't know it... I am so proud of you," he said as I stared into his eyes in shock.

"You are not safe here... no one is. The princes of darkness have learned about the children of the prodigy through dark magic and their thoughts and plans are evil and dark. Your presence in this place and the sword are in danger if they find out that you are here. They have found a way to get in here through the blood of King Elior. Their plan has been becoming more and more clear for some time now. The army they are building is much larger and more powerful than before... Be on your guard!" he said as he turned into light again and disappeared.

I woke up from my dream and knew that this wasn't just a dream, it was a message.

The place next to me was still warm, and Devas must have recently gone to talk to King Avery.

The room where Devas and I spent the night was in the mansion where I had lived since the beginning. I stormed out of the room and looked for Devas via the connection we now had.

The short journey I flew with my wings seemed endless, and when I burst into the room, everyone was frightened by the news I delivered.

"What do we do now?" asked the queen angrily.

"Are you sure?" Aidan asked as he was the first to gather his thoughts.

"I'm completely sure! They'll come! They don't just want to take the children, they want to destroy everyone else," I announced.

King Avery stood up from his seat and took the queen in his arms.

"Then we must prepare!" he announced firmly.
