Chapter 122 - He Knows
"What's the matter?" asked John. He was startled by the way Bonnie slammed open and shuts the door of her chamber. Her face wasn't bright at all. "He knows!"
"Who knows?"
"Ramsey knows I am a vampire."
"How in the hell did he know that?"
"I have no idea."
"So is he going to tell?"
"I don't know but I need to give the order for my decrees about vampires to be pasted before he leads the people of Maxis to revolt against me."
"That will not happen!"
"I have to go now."
"I am coming with you."
They both walked out from the chamber and headed to the throne hall wondering how Queen Bonnie's secret came to light.
After Queen had called the second knight ranking after Lord Ramsey out, she handed her parchments. These are the words of the King as written on the parchments: 'Maxis is open to any vampire who will be at peace with the good people of Maxis. You are welcome for a close relationship as decreed and signed with my seal.'
With strict orders, Queen Bonnie instructed the knight to make sure the parchments went across the entire Fortified city.
"I will do as you have instructed."
...At the Courtyard...
The barking of faraway dogs broke the silence of the night as King Absalom escaped the guards' cell. He was crawling through the courtyard. The building of the courtyard is framed and enclosed by walls. The only sources of light in the courtyard are flaming torches affixed to the wall.
The barking of the dogs alerted the guards as they quickly began their search. The chief guard saw footprints leading to the courtyard from the guards' quarters. He believed these footprints must be the footprints of their escaped prisoner. "Over here!" yelled the chief guard alerting the other guards as he leads the way to the courtyard.
King Absalom was still waiting for the barking of the dogs to seize before he could continue with his escape plans. But before he could realize what was happening, he was surrounded by the guards.
"King Absalom, you will come with us." The chief guard unsheathed his sword as the rest of the guards followed suit.
"I don't think I will do such. Turn and leave to avoid bloodshed."
"Look around you King, you are outnumbered!"
"Of course, I can see that but I can outsmart you." King Absalom draws out the sword he stole from one of the guards from the guards' cell and quickly grabs one of the guards as a human shield. "You will let me walk or I slit his throat!" "You will unhand him and release him from your grip!" yelled the chief guard.
King Absalom placed the sword on the guard's throat and continued his threat. "I will slit his throat!"

"Why not we let him walk? The young guard just got married," one of the guards whispered to the chief guard.
"I need to have your word you won't kill him if we let you walk." The chief guard fixes his gaze on the King. He didn't want to see one of his young men be put down especially one who recently got married. "You have my word; I just want to get back to my fortified city."
"And you think King Edward II will not send his men to come and recapture you?"
"Leave me to worry about that. Let me walk or he dies."
...Mystic Cave...
The just-risen sun shone softly into the mystic cave. Neena's wendigo just returned from the woods. On Neena's order, the wendigo has been searching for John and Bonnie.
The wendigo bends the knee before Neena. "Mistress!" said the wendigo in a deep voice. The wendigo slightly lowered its head as an act of respect for Neena. "Any sign of them?"
"No my mistress... There's no sign of them."
"That's clever of him. He must have used a cloaking spell to hide from my sight."
"What should we do now?"

"We have to get in touch with every Fortified city Strange Land starting from Maxis. Perhaps, they might be hiding out there." Neena stood to her feet and makes her way to the wendigo. "You may rise!" she said. ...At Maxis...
The parchments have been pasted as instructed by Queen Bonnie across the entire fortified city of Maxis. At the courtyard gathered some of the people as they read through the parchment pasted on the wall. Seeing the decrees of the King, they were gripped in fear as they began murmuring.
"How can the King permit vampires in Maxis? The same vampires that have separated her from her family. The same vampire her parents has hunted and killed. Why is she weak to make peace with them," said one of the people that have gathered to read from the parchment. "Is this how she chose to lead us?"
The people began to revolt inside the courtyard as the guards make every effort to bring calmness but they were overpowered by the people. They pushed the guards away and started forcing their way through the main castle building. The guards and knights on the hallway that leads to the throne hall quickly rushed towards the entrance door of the main castle to shut the wooden door on hearing the angry chants of the people.
"What is going on?" Lord Ramsey walked towards the entrance door. The knights and guards have succeeded in shutting the people out.
However, they started banging and kicking on the wooden door. "What the hell is going on here?" John approaches. From his chamber, he has seen them move in their number towards the main castle. He glances at Lord Ramsey and fired another question. "Why are the people trying to invade the castle?"
"Lord!" Ramsey said as he turned to face John. He grinned and then said, "I believe you know why the people are here, or should I tell them again?"
"What are you talking about?"
Lord Ramsey took a step closer to John. He brought his face closer to John's and whispered. "They will soon find out what she is."
