Chapter 123 - The Revolt
"Make way for the battering ram," roared a man in a red tunic. He was leading some of his slaves who were carrying a battering ram. They want to breach through the main castle with the battering ram.
A battering ram is designed to break the gates or walls of a castle through repeated heavy impacts. The first rams were large tree trunks carried by hand and crashed into the wall as hard as possible. Later more sophisticated siege engines were built with wheels that enclosed the ram under an arrow-proof roof. This allowed the attackers to move the ram close to the wall or gate protected from the defenders. The ram itself would be hung by chains or ropes enabling it to be swung freely.
Rams were most effective against wooden gates or soft stone walls. Harder stones, such as granite, were much more resistant but could still be defeated eventually by a ram.
From the inside, John heard clearly what the man had said: 'Make way for the battering ram.' He glances at Lord Ramsey. "What is really going on?"
"If they breach the castle, they will drag the King out from the castle. They will shame her and ask her to utter her decrees."
"You must act now as the commander of the knights."
"That is beyond me."
"Why is that so?"
"I am sworn to protect a human King and not a vampire who is a King."
"Who told you that?"
"I am not a fool and the earlier you stop acting up the better for us all. I certain you are aware of it."
"Lord Ramsey, what are we to do?" yelled one of the guards who were leaning by the wooden door. The guards and knights were leaning against the wooden door in order for it not to be easily breached but it seems like the battering ram outside says otherwise.
The best way to use the battering ram is to escort it with a melee unit. Once this is brought to a certain point, the battering ram will then be attacking the city walls with the unit selected, inflicting full damage. In this case, it's only the main castle that is being attacked. The main entrance of the castle has never been breached. Revolting started from the courtyard which made it easy for the people to easily have access inside the castle. They are already inside the castle and not attacking from the walls of the castle.
As the wooden door started to weaken John has to act fast unless everything Queen Bonnie has in mind for Maxis will be ruined. He quickly made his way to his chamber and climbed through the window.
His plan wasn't to call the people in order but to stop them with magic. As he was climbing down the window, he noticed some knights from the watchtower from the main castle gate had started making their way to stop the revolt but there were blocked by the people and disarmed.
John thought for a second what to do. He was at this time standing on the cobbled ground but short of ideas. Suddenly, a thought occurred to him.
As the battering ram is being used to ram the wooden door, John snapped his fingers. The battering ram turned into birds and flew away. Fear gripped the people as they started running helter-skelter fleeing from the scene.
"Sorcerer!" yelled the man in a red tunic. He wasn't fleeing with others but boldly waiting to know what really happened. As he looks around he caught a glimpse of John standing by the corner. He gazes at John. He was puzzled and after a while, he turned and left.
John has finally succeeded in dispersing the angry crowd revolting against the King' decrees. He approaches the wooden door and instructed the guards to open the door. As he walks in, Lord Ramsey was unpleased to see him. He wanted the people to succeed in their plans against the King.
"What did you do? How did you disperse them?" Lord Ramsey fired questions at John as he paces up to catch up with him.

"None of your damn business."
John was not pleased about Lord Ramsey standing down without doing anything to stop the revolt. When he heard the noise, he has to advise the King to stay in her chamber that he will come and get her when everything has normalized. He makes his way back to her chamber.
On seeing John walk through the door, she quickly rushed towards him and threw her arms around his neck.
"The people attempted breaching through the main castle."
"On what purpose?"
"They are not happy with your decrees."
"Do you think they will come back again?"
"I disperse them with my powers. I believe their fear will not let them repeat the attack, at least for now." John reaches down Queen Bonnie's waist. He grabbed her waist and then stared into her eyes. "We have someone who wants to see you dead."
Queen Bonnie's heart skipped. She took a deep breath and then asked in a soft tiny voice. "Who my love?"
"The commander of your knights."

"I thought as much."
"We need to handle him or he will be the next to lead the next revolt."
"If I act against him now in a harsh manner, he might reveal my identity to the people."
"You have already passed a decree and that shouldn't bother you."
"I understand, but..."
"Listen, I will not let any harm come to you, we will come out of this together." John draws her closer to his chest and then kisses her.
"I am pleased to have..."
Queen Bonnie's words were pushed back to her throat by a terrifying cry. The cry came from the courtyard.
"Not again!" said John as he approaches the window. Looking through the window to see what is happening again, he was not able to have a clear view of the courtyard. In his mind, he has concluded that another revolt has begun. He made his way to the door as he said to Bonnie. "Stay here, I will be right back."
He quickly headed straight to the courtyard and to his uttermost surprise; Neena's wendigo is standing beside two dead guards lying in the pool of their blood.
"Fuck me!" John exclaimed.
