Chapter The Labyrinth
Back at Psygon’s castle at Windfall, King Erloc stood over the balcony of the castle making a speech to the people of Windfall.
“My people!” he shouted out, raising his arms in the air. “Citizens of Windfall! I bring entertainment to you all! For I shall be holding a jousting tournament! For challengers who wish to participate, try outs will take place first light tomorrow! For the winner of this tournament shall receive a magnificent prize!” said he as the crowd below him cheered on.
Inside the castle the tall man cloak in black robes sat. A dark summoner they called him. A wizard in black magic and spells and able to summon demons at his aid. He opened his eyes as if he could sense something amiss. He could sense that the ones he flung away to the desert were still alive. With this knowledge, he rushed to inform King Erloc.
“Mi. lord.” he said to Erloc. “I have some news.” King Erloc had a curious look on his face.
“People! There is an important matter in which I must attend too!” King Erloc walked inside the castle with the black cloaked man at his side and the people still cheering in the background.
“What!?” King Erloc shouted.
“I could sense that Gallahon and the others are not dead and that they are on their way here.”
“Well slow them down!” Erloc commanded.
“I’m running out of energy since I created my vortex spell. Best I can do is trap them inside a labyrinth.”
“That will not be enough!” Then King Erloc sparked an idea. “Go ahead and do your labyrinth trick. If the labyrinth does not kill them, I’ll send someone to make sure that their dead.”
“As you wish mi lord.” The black cloaked man vanished in a burst of smoke. King Erloc made his way down to the dungeon. He stopped in front of Slayer’s cell.
“You, masked man!” Slayer sat in the shadows on the floor.
“I do have a name you know.” Slayer replied.
“I have a job for you. I’ve just been informed that Gallahon and his friends are still alive. You want them dead as badly as I do, right?” Slayer turned to Erloc.
“Just Gallahon. I do not care about the others.” Slayer turned back and leaned his head on the wall.
“I need you to travel to the desert. And if they’re not dead, kill them. Got it?”
“What’s in it for me?” Slayer wondered.
“Name your terms.” Slayer had to think about that. Slayer got up and walked towards the cell door.
“Tell you what. I’ll do it no charge.” King Erloc commanded one of the guards to unlock Slayer’s cell. The cell door swung open and Slayer walked out.
“Before you go, take these.” Erloc handed Slayer a pair of steel gauntlets. Slayer accepted the gift.
“Now go! And do not fail! My guards will escort you to the desert.” The guards left the dungeon with Slayer following them. King Psygon spoke to his brother.
“You really think your plan would work!?” his brother questioned.
“Oh Psygon. I do not care what you say. The island is under my control now. Your kingdom will soon fall.” King Erloc left the dungeon. King Psygon looked at Erloc in anger as he left.
With King Scythe dead and Aquanna saved, Gallahon lead his friends and sister to find a way out of the desert. Their feet stepped on the hot sand. Luckily they were wearing shoes.
“The sun sucks.” complained Trenton.
“Ra is the God of the sun, careful what you say.” said Aquanna. “You might anger him if he heard you say that.”
“Oh, I mean…. The sun is good. Yes, very good indeed. Absolutely nothing that sucks about it.” Gallahon spotted something in the sky. It looked like a glowing portal of some sort. A dark figure stepped out of the portal. Gallahon and the others stopped at the sight of the dark summoner.
“You!” Gallahon shouted out. “You’re the one who sent us here.”
“Very observebent.” said the dark summoner. “You wouldn’t happen to be heading back to Windfall, would you?”
“Yes. So you can tell your master Erloc that he can’t do anything to stop me from getting my revenge.”
“I’m afraid I cannot. And I cannot let you complete your goal.” With that said, the dark summoner raised his hands in the air. Gallahon and the others could feel something shake the ground beneath them. Walls shot up from the sands.
“If the desert didn’t kill you, maybe this labyrinth will. It’s full of traps and other surprises for you and your friends. Fare thee well.” The dark summoner went back inside the portal and the portal disappeared. Gallahon and the others looked around but saw nothing but walls and walkway. They walked on, attempting to make it through the labyrinth.
Back at Windfall, King Erloc’s guards escorted Slayer to the gates connecting Windfall to the desert. They were massive iron double doors with strange pictures and symbols in scripted onto them.
“Open the gate!” one of the guards shouted. The huge iron doors opened, revealing the sands. Slayers hands were bond until they made it to the gates.
“Do not return until Gallahon and his friends are dead. King’s orders.” One of the guards told Slayer. He released Slayer from his bonds and shoved him through.
“Or don’t bother to come back at all because the desert will kill you too, ha ha. Happy hunting scumbag.” The guard said in a sinister laugh and the iron doors closed shut.
Gallahon, Nina and the two elves started making their way through the labyrinth. Down the long hallway they went. But it seemed like it went on and on. As they went on, walls shot up from the sands from behind them. A wave of walls was heading towards them. They started running faster. They ran for miles until another wall shot up in front of them, blocking their path. They were trapped like rats. As the wave was coming closer to them, the wave stopped. A secret door opened up onto their right, leading into a dark hallway with torches lined up on the sides.
“I do not like this.” said Trenton. “Dark hallways usually means trouble.” But there was nowhere else for them to go. Trenton lead on into the dark hallway. After walking for miles in the hallway, the way forward seemed to have got darker. Before continuing, Trenton grabbed a torch to light the way. Trenton lead on with the torch, but they’ve heard screams. They looked around them, but nothing was surrounding them.
“What the Hell was that?” Gallahon asked.
“It sounded like those screams came from just up ahead.” Trenton replied. They’ve made it to a bridge, but there was a huge gap in the bridge. They’ve heard the screams again, but they were louder. Trenton looked over the edge with his torch, but could not see anything. He dropped the torch and the flame revealed some strange creatures as if they’ve been down there for a while. They appeared to be human, but not all the way. They were all dark skinned like burnt. All bloody and bony. When they looked up, their faces were cut in half.
“Okay, that’s creepy.” pointed out Aquanna. Trenton looked around for a way to cross the bridge. Trenton noticed there was a long piece of wood on the other side of the bridge that if he could get to it, it would be long enough for the others to walk across. Trenton scanned the area for a way across. Luckily there was a pillar in the middle where the bridge was connected too. Trenton backed up. He ran towards the edge and leaped off. He barely made it on the pillar. But the pillar started to crumble. As the pillar was coming down, Trenton leaped off. He grabbed the edge of the bridge on the other side. He struggled to pull himself up.
Trenton managed to pull himself up. He then grabbed the wood and surely, it was long enough. As soon as the wood was down, the others came across one at a time. As Aquanna was coming across, she lost her balance. She fell, but quickly grabbed a hold of the wooded plank. The creatures below reached up, waiting for their meal to come. Gallahon reached out for Aquanna’s hand. Aquanna grabbed Gallahon’s hand and Gallahon pulled her up. The creatures down below would have to wait. Gallahon, Nina and Aquanna made it safely across the other side.
“Thank you Gallahon.” said Aquanna. “Any second and I would’ve been zombie food.”
“We got to find a way out of this labyrinth and back to Windfall. Come on.” Gallahon took the lead. But something was running towards them. It was a Minotaur that was heading towards them. As the horned beast ran towards them, they stepped aside and the monster fell off the bridge. It was snack time for the creatures below. Gallahon and the others watched as the Minotaur was being consumed by the zombies.
“Gross.” said Nina. They turned away and started making their way. As the Minotaur screamed, Gallahon paused for a moment. He ignored the Minotaur’s cry and went on. Although, it seemed Gallahon felt sorry for the beast as if he could feel the beast’s pain. He walked away, falling behind as the three continued on. Gallahon sprinted to catch up with the others. They have crossed the bridge, but they had no idea what else was in store for them.
Slayer was almost to his destination. He could almost taste Gallahon’s blood on his lips. Slayer was making his way through the sands until he was visited by an unexpecting guest. A being for which he had never set eyes on before. The being named Anput came to him.
“Strange being, what is your business here in the desert?” asked Anput.
“I am looking for someone.”
“I know who it is you seek. What business do you have with Gallahon?” She looked down and saw his sword. Slayer drew his cape over his sword to hide it. “You mean to kill him, don’t you? I am afraid I cannot allow that.” Slayer placed his hand on her shoulder.
“Out of my way beast. I will not hurt you if you don’t get in my way. I will stain my blade with Gallahon’s blood and not even a god or goddess will stop me. Especially you beast!”
“Then you leave me no choice.” Anput drew her weapon. Slayer paused.
“You sure you want to be doing that beast?” he called her again.
“Do you not know who I am mortal? I am she who protects. I am the goddess Anput. And I will not allow you to kill Gallahon or his friends.”
Back at the labyrinth, Gallahon and the others made it to a room. They could see skeletons all over the floor. At the end of the room was a sacrificial table and on the table was a skeleton but it still had some flesh and muscle tissue intact. It was still decomposing. And there were also five jars on the table. The jars had sculpted heads of five of the Egyptian gods. There were tall candle stands on each end of the table and a throne behind the table.
“Oh my Gods. What were they doing in here…?” Gallahon asked. Gallahon stepped closer to get a better look at the body that was lying on the table. The eyes suddenly opened up and looked at Gallahon. Gallahon backed up as the reanimated corpse got up from the table. The other skeletons surrounding them rose up. Weapons appeared in their hands. Gallahon and the others stood back to back and armed themselves. Gallahon had only his shield, for he could not fight with a broken sword. It was time for Gallahon to show his martial arts skills.
As the skeleton came at Gallahon waving his sword around, he noticed that the skeleton had flesh on his legs and Gallahon stepped aside, jabbing the creature’s leg with the horns on his shield. As one of the skeletons attacked Nina, she jabbed one of her swords in his chest. Another came up from behind her but she turned and jabbed her other sword in his head. She turned back, kicking the skeleton back, pulling her sword out of it. Trenton stabbed one of the skeletons through the neck bone. Aquanna swung her arm down low and took out one of the skeletons legs. When the skeleton was down, she stomped on its skull. Gallahon ran towards the table with one of the skeletons chasing him. Gallahon jumped and leaped off the table, kicking his skull off its neck bone. Gallahon than threw his shield as if it was a Frisbee at one of the other skeletons. The impact of the shield broke the skeleton into pieces.
Trenton held one of his swords straight in front of him. Gallahon grabbed one of the skeletons by the arm and tossed him towards Trenton, impaling the skeleton with Trenton’s blade. Trenton kicked the skeleton down, yanking his blade out of it. Trenton jumped up and drop kicked one of the remaining skeletons and impaled it with his blade while he was down. Gallahon low kicked another skeleton causing it to fall down. Gallahon ran for his shield. The skeleton got up and chased him. Gallahon quickly grabbed his shield and impaled the skeleton with the horns. Gallahon failed to see the last skeleton coming up behind him.
“Gallahon!” Trenton yelled out. He threw his sword. Gallahon stepped aside avoiding the blade as it impaled the skeleton behind him. After the battle was done, they took a moment to catch their breath.
“That was almost too easy.” said Gallahon. But their celebration was short lived. A ghost appeared in the throne. The others looked towards the ghost.
“Oh Hell. I guess I spoke too soon.” The ghost appeared to be wearing little armor on his body and a head piece, almost similar to King Scythe the second. Than it dawned on Gallahon. This was the ghost of King Scythe the first. As the ghost was walking towards Aquanna and Nina, Gallahon and Trenton charged at him. But he grabbed both their necks and threw them down on the floor like they were nothing. Nina charged at him with both swords, but the ghost stepped aside and back slapped her out of the way. Aquanna defended herself the best she could. She took a swing at him but her arm just phased right through him.
To they’re surprise, the ghost just busted into flames. Flames in gulfed the ghost and the ghost was no more.
“What the Hell just happened?” Aquanna asked to herself. She was relieved that the ghost was gone. But she couldn’t help but wonder why it just burst into flames. She ran over to Gallahon to help him up.
“Are you alright Gallahon?”
“I was taken down pretty hard. But I’ve had worse.” Gallahon said as he stood up. Trenton got up from the floor.
“Don’t bother helping me up. I’m fine by the way.” Gallahon ran over to Nina to check up on her. Gallahon helped Nina up.
“Come on, we’ve got to be close to the exit by now.” Gallahon told them. All four of them continued on through the labyrinth. All four of them continued on through another dark, long hallway. As they went on, they have heard a strange noise coming from behind them. It sounded like something flickering. Like a fire was trying to start up. Trenton knew exactly what that sound was.
“Guys, I think we should start running. Like right now!” As the four started to run, flames were shooting out of the floor behind them. A wave of fire was coming up from behind them as they ran. As they ran, Gallahon could see the end of the hallway but the door was closing in on them. Trenton thought fast and threw one of his daggers towards the door and the blade plunged into the crack of the door and the wall stopping the door from closing. All four of them had to slide to squeeze under the door. Trenton was last. As Trenton slide, he grabbed and pulled his dagger out of the crack and the door closed. They were safe from the flames.
Although they thought that they were safe. Gallahon heard a strange hissing noise followed by a growl. The four turned and saw a monster taller than any human. The monster had a strange looking head and a symbol on its fore head. The monster also had four arms and eight tentacles instead of legs. Its mid-section was exposed and they could see its muscle tissue. They have never seen a creature like this before. It appeared as if it was guarding something. But the monster was not attacking. It just stood there looking at them. With those pitch black eyes.
“That thing that he’s guarding. It looks like a dagger.” pointed out Gallahon. As for the dagger, it was in graved in gold, sheathed in a pedestal. The pedestal was shaped into a strange design. It was shaped into a six-sided star. They have passed the monster for now and into another hallway. Gallahon could see the door at the end of the hallway.
“That must be the way out!” pointed out Trenton. As they have gone through the hallway to the door, the hallway seemed to have gotten bigger.
“Is it just me, or does the hallway seem…Bigger?” asked Nina. The door at the end of the hallway was a large stone door with a slit in the door.
“It looks like this door has a lock. We need to find the key.” Gallahon looked back. That dagger he saw before could be the key to that door. Gallahon went back to the room where the monster was and the others followed. But before going to the room, Trenton noticed something in scripted onto the door in some form of strange language. Luckily Trenton could read what it said.
“I know what this says guys. In tongue it reads ’Be warned for those who wish to make it out of this labyrinth alive know this. ‘I am the one who challenges you foul demon for my freedom. I shall take up thy sword and send you to the depths of Hell’ These words must be said to awaken the sleeping giant beyond this door to see the light of day.’” After what it said Trenton and the others followed Gallahon to the room where the key was. Gallahon knew that they had to either get past or kill the monster to get the key.
Gallahon tried to take the dagger key while the monsters back was turned, but the monster saw Gallahon and bashed him with one of its tentacles. Trenton charged at the monster with his two swords. The monster warped one of its tentacles around Trenton. Trenton cut through its tentacle to get free. Nina rushed in, jumped up and impaled the monster’s chest with one of her hidden blades. The monster grabbed Nina by the hands and pulled her sword out of its chest. The monster threw Nina into Aquanna. Gallahon woke up. He was close to the dagger.
The others were fighting the monster, Gallahon sought the opportunity to take it. Trenton jumped up, about to impale the monster. Gallahon pulled the dagger key and everything around him just froze. Everything around Gallahon just stood still, frozen in time. Gallahon thought about putting the dagger back, but he needed it to open the door. Gallahon took the dagger to the door and used it to unlock the door. The door had opened. Gallahon walked in with caution. As soon as he entered, the door closed behind him. The room which he entered was dark. But there was light shining through the ceiling. High columns were surrounding him.
“I am the one who challenges you foul demon for my freedom. I shall take up thy sword and send you to the depths of Hell.” Gallahon said the words as they should have been said. The ground shook. In the shadows, a masked man crept up behind Gallahon. The masked man unsheathed his sword and pointed it at Gallahon’s neck.
“Hello my young friend.” Slayer said sinisterly. Gallahon turned to face him. “You didn’t think it would end like this did you Gallahon?”
“Who said it had to end?” The ground shook some more. A giant rose up behind Gallahon. Gallahon turned to face the giant. The giant had no eyes on his head but a massive jaw and no lips. His arms were muscular but had no wrists. So it was as if his hands were floating. Eye balls were infused in its palms. Finally, the giant had no legs. It’s as if his whole torso was floating in air. The giant’s hand plummet down on both Gallahon and Slayer. They rolled aside on opposite sides, avoiding from being crushed by the giant’s fist.
“No giant is going to take away the privilege of killing Gallahon away from me!” As the giant’s hand plunged down at Gallahon, Slayer ran towards Gallahon and cut the giant’s hand. Slayer then ran up the giant’s arm. It grabbed Slayer and threw him across the room, hitting a wall and knocking Slayer unconscious. Gallahon ran to get Slayer’s sword. As the giant plummet his hand down about to squash Gallahon like a fly, Gallahon grabbed Slayer’s sword and jabbed the eye in its palm. The giant yelled out in pain. Gallahon ran towards the other hand. The giant took its injured hand and slapped Gallahon away. As Gallahon hit the wall, the giant went in to punch Gallahon into the wall but Gallahon saw the giant’s fist was closing in and moved out of the way. As Gallahon ran, the giant plummet his fist into the floor trying to hit Gallahon.
Gallahon ran and hid in a corner. As the giant opened his hand to grab him, Gallahon stabbed the eye. The giant yelled in pain again. Both eyes were taking out of both hands. Gallahon looked at the giant’s head. Flesh was starting to peel off his head. An eye was reveled on his head. It’s as if the flesh was covering its eye. But there was something strange about that eye. The iris was not rounded, but a six-sided star, like the design of the pedestal he took the dagger from. Gallahon looked at the dagger and knew what to do. Gallahon ran out of the corner and ran up the giant’s arm. The giant tried to grab Gallahon off its arm but he was too fast. Gallahon jumped towards the other arm. As he jumped, Gallahon threw the dagger and the blade plunged into the giant’s eye right in the middle of the eye. Gallahon ran down the giant’s arm and the giant fell.
Gallahon dropped down safe and the giant was dead. Slayer woke up from consciousness. Slayer crept up behind Gallahon and ringed him by the neck.
“Now you’re all mine Gallahon.” As Slayer reached for his blade, Gallahon cut Slayer’s arm, causing Slayer to let go. Gallahon then swept kicked Slayer. Slayer fell down and Gallahon seized the blade to Slayer’s neck. Gallahon plunged the blade into the floor next to Slayer’s head. Slayer looked at Gallahon.
“My battle is not with you Slayer. I will not kill you.” As Gallahon slowly walked away Slayer grabbed his sword and seized the blade to Gallahon’s neck.
“You would kill and unarmed opponent?” said Gallahon. Slayer stood there.
“Why would you spare me when I tried to kill you before?” Gallahon said nothing. He thought back to his teachings.
“When I find that tyrant King Erloc, I’m going to kill him. I swear on my father’s blood.” Gallahon had said to his Spartan teacher.
“I agree with you King Erloc does deserve death, but still. You should know Gallahon, not everyone who is evil deserves death. Even if someone does evil deeds, there is still an ounce of good left in him, you just have to find it. Spare their lives, and they’ll spare yours.”
Gallahon just walked away. Slayer could tell what Gallahon was saying and turned back.
“Until we meet again Gallahon." Slayer left. The door had opened and Trenton, Nina and Aquanna rushed towards Gallahon. They were relieved that Gallahon was okay. Another door had opened up and revealed the outside. Gallahon and his friends had survived the labyrinth.
