Alex POV
Dad hadn’t chosen a worse time to come visit. I needed to speak to Leiah and keep an eye on Gabbic. I didn’t like leaving her alone in my room for long–Aside from my other duties at the Academy, I didn’t want to add dealing with my Father as another thing that ate my time. As usual, we met in Athena’s
office.
Dad stood by the window with a glass of whiskey in his hand. He had a full head of salt and pepper hair. Years ago I thought he was the biggest man I’d ever seen but now I had a few inches over him. He turned to me and smiled. Laugh lines appeared around his eyes.
“Son,” he said.

Dad was still respected and feared Alpha in the shifter world, but he hinted at retirement more than once on his visits. I wasn’t sure I would have long when I got out of here in a few months for myself.
“You look stressed,” Dad said.
“I kind of am. I’ve got a lot running in my mind right now.”
Dad walked to Athena’s chair like he owned the office. Considering the amount of money, he donated to the academy he might have a case of ownership. He reclined in the seat and raised his brows.
“Want to tell me about it?”
“Dad.”
“Come on, Mate trouble?” He chuckled, “Don’t I know a few things about that.”
“It could be worse. I took an omega.”
Dad lurched forward, his eyes wide. “Son, why would you do that? Don’t you know what your girlfriend’s capable of?”
Leiah had only met my Father a handful of times, but even he knew my mate was possessive. She’d done a few things to Gabbie, but she hadn’t physically done anything to her.
“Leiah wouldn’t go that far,” I said.
Dad cleared his throat and looked sideways. He didn’t believe me! “Who is she?”
“Uh… Gabriella Chambers.”
He planted his elbows on the desk and folded his fingers. “Erik’s daughter. I thought you would have taken her as your mate.”
“I would have Dad, but she never came. She shouldn’t be here. Gabbie doesn’t have a wolf.”

“What? What the hell happened? I was gone for a few hours.
“You left a defenceless girl alone in a castle with territorial Alpha females, what the hell did you think would happen?” She popped out her hip.
“Eva.” I growled.
She threw her arms up and pointed at the roof. “You better do something your girlfriend’s up there.”
I raced upstairs and went to the infirmary. I burst in to find Leiah lying on the bed asleep while Harlow held her hand. The scent of medicine irritated my senses but I entered anyway. I’d never seen Leiah down before she was a strong wolf.
Harlow jumped to her feet. “There you are! You see what your slut did?”
“Gabbie did this?”
“Don’t act so surprised.”
“Gabbie’s wolfless Harlow. How is she?”
“Not great. The cunt scrambled her senses. Those are illegal blows around here. What’s going to happen when Leiah reports her?”
Fuck. Eva was right this was my fault. “Can you leave us alone for a minute?”
Harlow frowned, “Don’t you dare blame Leiah for this,” she said before storming out.
I sat on the bed. Scrambling a wolf’s senses could cause some damage. I saw Gabbie do it to Baxter but she was only defending herself. I didn’t know what happened but I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.
I stroked Leiah’s cheek. She stirred seconds later. Her eyes fluttered open and a soft smile spread on her face. She was gorgeous and fierce just a few reasons I chose her but my wolf wanted Gabbie as well.
“You came,” she said.
“Of course, how are you feeling?” I asked.
“Like shit, she tried to kill me, Alex.”
“No, Leiah. Gabbie wouldn’t do that. What happened?”
Her lip trembled and her face twisted in discomfort I stood. “It’s okay. I’ll come back later.”

“You know attacking a Luna Elect is a crime and I have every intention of reporting that slut.”
