I tugged my coat around myself and stared at the rocks near my feet. Alex caught me going to the Alpha castle to see Kade. I hadn’t expected to bump into him.
“Going for a walk. Trying to clear my head” 1 shrugged.
He closed the distance between us. The wind zipped through us, sending the scent of his cologne straight to my face.
“That all Gabbie” You don’t come this close to the castle”
“Yeah, I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“Mind if I join you then?”
I shot a quick glance at the castle, Kade’s room was on the other side. I nodded, so much for seeing Kade tonight. Maybe this was the opportunity I needed to tell Alex the truth,
He bumped my shoulder on our walk away from the castle. The action felt normal for friends, but I couldn’t shake that things changed between us
“This way,” he said.
“Where are you taking me?”
“A place I like to go to be alone.”
We walked for a few minutes. We ended up back at Alpha Castle territory anyway which pulled my nerves to life. What if Kade knew I was alone with Alex?
“It’s beautiful,” I said staring at the rose bush that grew into a dome shape over a small courtyard.
The scent of roses was intense and beautiful made richer which the gentle evening breeze. The green thorny rose bush concealed the sky though bits of moonlight managed to seep through. I sat on the stone bench, careful to keep my coat tight. I recalled Baxter’s reaction when he saw iny mate mark. He figured out my mate was from Sanders pack. It wouldn’t take Alex that long to figure out who that particular Sanders member was.
Alex sat beside me. “Are you that cold?” He draped an arm over my shoulders and pulled me close.
“No, it’s not that bad.” My voice trembled.

That didn’t stop him from picking me up and planting me on his lap. Alex circled me in his arms. I felt encased and trapped.

Despite the dim light. I was able to see the uncertainty on his face. I wondered if he saw the fear in mine. He pressed his forehead against mine. I shut my eyes, why did this have to happen now? When it was too late?
“Why did you bring me here?” I asked.
“Because I’m an idiot. This is where I’ve wanted to be for a long time.”
“Alex” My heart slammed forward.
“Tell me, tell me you never felt the same way. Tell me you never had feelings for me. Gabbie. I won’t believe you if you do.”
Heat rushed to my face and I looked away. Alex turned my chin back to his face. Before I could speak his lips closed on mine. I pulled back

“Not this time.” His lips crashed against mine once more. His hand rode up my thigh. sending fireworks to my core and alarms in my head.
I was locked in his big muscular arms, unable to do as much as wiggle. I felt safe in his arms. Every fantasy I had about our first kiss came back to me. Alex would kiss me passionately and he would do the same thing the next day after that. My deluded dreams of Alex loving me resurfaced. But Kade flashed in my mind and snapped back.
“Alex” I hissed.
“Gabbie,” he growled and captured my lips again in a low tantalizing kiss.
He asserted his dominance in the way his tongue traced my lips and they styled his arms locked around my small frame. Gosh, it felt so good a pool of moisture formed between my legs and Alex could smell me lusting after him.
“No, stop. We can’t do this.”
“Why? Because best friends can’t kiss?” He chuckled and rubbed my thigh.
I bit my bottom lip. I wore a skirt under my coat. Alex made contact with flesh. His fingers wandered dangerously close to my underwear.
“No, because you have Leiah and L…”
“I don’t love her.”
“It doesn’t matter you chose her.”
I tried… I waited for you, Gabbie. Babe, you turn my world upside down with every dumb thing you do. You never came.”
“I never got a wolf,” I shrugged a dumb laugh escaped my lips.

He sighed and pressed his lips on my cheek. His mouth travelled down to my throat. I pulled back so fast 1 tangled my feet and landed on my butt,
“Hey.” Alex yanked me off the ground with one hand.
He planted his hands on my back and drew me to his body.
“I want you.” His wolf flashed in his eyes. It sent a shiver up my spine.
I wiggled out of his hold.
“Gabbie.” He took a step forward but I backed up. “I want you, Gabbie.”
“I should go.
“What? Didn’t you hear what I just said?”
My limbs were on the verge of shutting down. My coat was too hot and my hands trembled along with my lip. I hoped Alex couldn’t see the horror on my face,
“It’s impossible,” I whispered.
“I can take care of Leiah and we can be together. I’m not going to keep denying myself this opportunity. Not me or my wolf”
“I… “I ran my fingers through my hair. Kade wanted the world to know about us. He protected me from his former mate and Alex’s. Tears pooled in my eyes and I looked away. Kade showed me a part of himself that other people didn’t know.
“I can’t think about this right now. Please.”
Alex nodded, “I’ll take you to the quarters.”
“I can make it back myself.”

Sneaking into the alpha castle and burying my fears in my mate’s chest crossed my mind but then I would have to tell him what happened with Alex. How could I tell him I kissed his enemy and not spark.

“They found out you have a Sanders mate.” Emery whispered.

“Yeah, how could you mate with Baxter? I thought you hated him more importantly how did you not.

1 coughed on my own saliva. “Baxter?” I stared at Emery then Blair. “Baxter?”
“Yeah, that’s what he’s telling everyone. That you two are chosen mates.”
“That is disgusting! How could he?”
“So it isn’t true?” Blair raised a brow.
“No. I would never do that.”
Damn Baxter. Another problem for me to deal with.
