Chapter Twenty-FIve

Shaun looked to Grant and knew exactly who Blu was speaking of. “You want to shift because of that mut?” She shouted. Her fists clenched and she snarled at her wolf.

Dusk’s ears flattened and Grant whimpered. ‘Yes. It’s all because of that mut. You know Asher was never our mate. I remember a time when you were hopeless to finding a mate, and we were only fifteen, Shaun! Grant is our mate!’ Blu screamed in her mind.

Shaun shook her head, not wanting to believe it. “No! He’s a vampire! Werewolves and vampires don’t mix!”

‘Shaun, whether you want to believe it or not, he is a werewolf now.’

“That’s not possible! Bitten werewolves and pure blood werewolves don’t mate! They can’t mate!” Shaun had tears in her eyes.

Grant listened closely and fled. It’s not like he wanted to be her mate anyway. He had plans to be wed to someone else. His father had arranged to have him wed to a beautiful vampire queen from another country. All of his plans went down the drain, because he went into Lycan Forest.

Dusk let Ericka take charge and she shifted to her human form. “Shaun...” she spoke softly.

“What?” She snapped at her best friend. Ericka looked at her, hurt and ran off towards the house. “Ericka...I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to...” she looked around, and noticed Grant was gone too.

‘You made him run off too. Thanks, Shaun.’ She heard Blu growl in her mind.

Shaun looked to Ruby and Skull. Ruby had stopped sobbing and gave Shaun a disappointing look. Skull avoided eye contact through her mask and stood up, helping Ruby up. The two left as well, not saying a word to her.

Shaun’s heart was being torn in two, she could feel it. She hurt her best friend, she hurt her potential mate, and she hurt her wolf. “What is wrong with me? Why am I such an idiot? Why do I let my emotions get the best of me?” She could feel tears falling down her cheek, tears she didn’t realize she had built up.

“Sweet pup, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” A voice hissed.

A chill went up Shaun’s spine as soon as she heard the voice. Her tears froze like icicles hanging from a roof and when she breathed, she could see her breath. She turned around, her eyes staring right at the face she really didn’t want to be in front of, Zandyr Lytle. “What do you want?” Her jaw clenched and she growled.

“I just want to help you, pup. You are hurting, I can tell. Poor Blu, will never shift again for you all because you turned her mate down. I don’t blame Ericka if she never speaks to you again.” The banished vampire taunted.

“Leave them out of this!” Shaun clenched her fists. She tried to call Blu, silently in her mind, but nothing in return.

Zandyr smirked, “She isn’t responding, is she. She has blocked you out, hasn’t she.”

“N--no.” Shaun was concerned as to how he knew what was going on in her mind. She had trained her mind to make sure no one got to read it again.

“Shaun Frost, I can help you. You can trust me,” he held his hand out, so kind, so trustworthy. She had felt a pull towards him, a strong pull, as if she were a puppet with strings. Shaun reached for it, subconsciously, taking it so easily.

“Okay,” she answered as they walked deeper into the thick wooded area.
