Chapter 26 - A Spy Within The Pack
Reign
We had come to the joint conclusion that someone within the pack was telling Zenos, Mandy and her aunt what was going on. There had been two kidnap attempts on Kodi in the last week. Of course neither were successful. It’s hard to kidnap someone who is able to kick more or less every ones ass, not to mention has damn near unlimited power. The second one almost worked when they drugged her, but the drugs they used didn’t work fast enough. She was half out of it by the time we got to her. I am not sure which is scarier, a half coherent Kodi or a fully coherent Kodi. Both times a kidnap attempt happened the shadows had been the ones to tell me what was happening.
“Okay what the fuck is wrong?” Kodi asked.
I can’t help but laugh. My little copper flame’s personality has came out since she first got here. Those first couple of weeks she was here I could tell she was still holding back. I understood. She had been on her own and her trust in others was zero, except for a few. She let us see a little of her personality, but not much. After everything was talked about and then meeting her grandparents her full personality came out. The pack absolutely loves her.
“Well hello to you my pretty little Luna.” I drawl.
“Don’t give me that shit. I know you are keeping something from me and have been for weeks and I am sick and fucking tired of it. If you don’t tell me I will move out of our room and you won’t be getting any sex for a long fucking time. I will then make one of the other guys tell me even if I have to scare the shit out of them.” She growls.
I let out a sigh as she walks around sitting down on my lap. She starts running her hand through my hair making Blade release a rumbling purr in my mind. Well I thought it was just in my head until I heard her giggle. I guess it must have slipped out. I open my eyes which I hadn’t realised had closed and found myself looking into her stunning eyes. They really do look like a flickering flame.
“Ino linked me that night after we finished talking with your cousins. You had already fallen asleep. Him and Fern were hanging out. Fern told him about a girl, a hybrid that ironically was his cousin. Fern hadn’t knows she was a hybrid at the time. His cousin, Dayla had a classmate who’s name was Eros. Before you get mad, I told the others and yes we didn’t tell you because of everything that we had just discussed with your cousin and then all this other shit had happened. Ino is still trying to find more information on Eros, but we have found out that Eros is Zenos’s son. No we still don’t know where they live.” I explained.
“You didn’t trust me?” She whispered.
“There is no one I trust more, but we had just found three of your cousins and had learned that the girl you had talked to after being rescued was also a cousin. Lets not forget that you had found her after she had killed herself. Then my accident and then these fuckers trying to kidnap you. I knew you were stressed and that you still blamed yourself about not being able to save your cousin. I didn’t want you to stress yourself more than you already were. I was also afraid that you would take off and try to find them. I also didn’t want to bring it up and Ellie find out. I know it still hurts that her first mate didn’t want her. Thank fuck she found Calder.” I added.
I pull his picture out of the drawer in my desk and place in front of her. I knew the exact moment she realised who he was. I saw her eyes flash as I wrapped my arms around her waist.
“That fucker was at the competition.” She hissed.
“I know. We all realised that when Ino showed us his picture. Mauku and Kekipi growled when they saw his picture. I emailed the picture to Eli. He was pissed and I know he has several of his guys searching for them. Please promise me that you won’t go off searching for them.” I told her.
“I won’t, I promise. I would rather they come here and try something or back to the kingdom. I would like to see if I could contact the merkingdom. I would like to find out more about that part of my bloodline, no matter how little connection to it I may have.” Kodi state.
“I think that would be a good idea. I will talk with Dad. I know he knew the merking, but I know they haven’t spoken in a while. I am not sure why.” I told her.
I couldn’t help but laugh when she let out a happy squeal as her arms tightened around my neck. I looked up when someone cleared their throat to find Dad standing there smiling at us. Kodi jumped up and flung herself at him. Dad was both surprised at her reaction but was laughing at the same time. She smiled at him as she ran out of the room. I could hear her yelling, but I couldn’t tell who or what she was yelling at or about. I explained to him what we had discussed.
“Shanadu just passed the throne to his son Cerelium. After the disaster of his family and the whole issue with his ancestor and Kodi’s, yes I knew something about that but not the details, his several greats grandmother who took over the throne cleaned up the aristocracy. I am sure he would be more than thrilled to work with us and meet Kodi.” Dad said.
I ask Dad to give the previous merking a call and he says he will. I wouldn’t admit this to Kodi, but I am not sure how I feel about this. I am worried the more people we include in this the more chance that someone could turn on us and hand Kodi over to her psychotic uncle. I know there already one traitor in this pack, but we still haven’t figured out who it is yet. I do have Brandt and Shay watching a few of Mandy’s friends. I am positive that she is still in contact with a couple of them. I spoke with Dani about this but she doesn’t think any of the are smart enough to be a spy. If not them, then who?
Amir
I knew this was going to be dangerous. I had been keeping tabs on the pack for years. My parents had been killed and I came to live in the Ahi Mokupuni Pack with my aunt and uncle. My cousin Raef was one of the top warriors and was in the alpha’s inner circle. I had met Eros and Jeremy when we were young and we had become good friends. My parents had worked for Eros’s father for years. They never kidnapped our own kind but they did kidnap and sell other supernatural species, all women. They would help organise auctions for selling them to the highest bidder. They even arranged private sells to alphas, kings, and other high ranking rich individuals. That is what I did now for Zenos. I have been doing it for five years since I turned 18. My aunt Myra would kill me if she ever found out. My father was her brother, but she never knew about his job. He always told the family he owned his own business, which wasn’t a lie. I had moved into the city a couple of years ago, but I still had a place in the pack. I went between both houses. I visited Raef all the time that is how I knew what was going on. I was the one to tell Zenos that Kodi was in fact in the pack.
“They are fully mated and Kodi is marked.” I said.
“I expected as much.” Zenos replied.
He had popped up about half an hour ago. I knew he would. That is why I was at my place in the city. I am not sure how Kodi didn’t pick up on his power or their family link, but that wasn’t my business.
“You seem upset.” I pointed out.
“That is because my son did something that he shouldn’t have done.” Zenos hissed.
I looked at Eros who was looking at the floor. I had noticed he had changed a little after college. That last year his whole demeanour changed but when Jeremy or I would ask he would tell us that he was tired and couldn’t wait to graduate. I knew there was more to it, but I didn’t push. I figured he would tell us when he wanted to.
“I found my mate our last year in college. I rejected her because I was with Sabryna. She accepted the rejection. When Sabryna found her fated mate and left me I tried to go back to her and take back my rejection, but it was like our bond was never there and she walked away and I haven’t seen her since.” Eros admitted.
“I have heard of this and it only happens when one of the fated mates is not of age. I bet she hadn’t turned 18 yet.” I point out.
He pulls out his phone which surprises me. I would have never have guessed that he would have a picture of her saved on his phone. He must still feel something for her. I wait for him to find the picture and I damn near swallow my tongue when he shows me her picture. Shit, it would be fucking Ellie. I knew she was a little younger than Dani which meant that she started college about a month or so before she turned 18. I let out a breath and looked at Eros.
“Her name is Ellie and she is Dani’s best friend. She is a little younger than Dani and started college about a month or so before she turned 18. I had no idea she met her mate at college I don’t think she ever told anyone that happened. She was also one of the girls that was kidnapped when they kidnapped Dani.” I explained.
“Shit, that was our way into the pack.” Zenos growled.
“Maybe I can convince..” Eros started to say.
“Forget it, she has already found her second chance mate. He is the current fey kings' second in command.” I state.
Eros let’s out a yell and storms out of the room. I have no idea why he so fucking pissed. He is the one that rejected Ellie. Zenos is pinching the bridge of his nose as I stand up and walk out of the room. Eros is sitting on the floor with his back against the wall. His head is hanging down resting on his knees that his arms are resting on.
“She got a second chance mate. She is mine.” He hissed.
“Dude you rejected her. She was only 17 and the bond never had a chance to form when she accepted the rejection. That made it like the bond never existed. You always told me you wanted you fated mate why would you reject her.?” I state.
“I didn’t want to, but the minute I touched her it was like something in me shifted and before I knew it I was watching myself say the words and then hearing her accept made me drop to my knees. By the time I came around she was gone. The next time I saw her was when I tried to take back my rejection, but there was nothing there.” Eros explained.
“Sounds like someone had placed a spell on you. Was Sabryna a witch?” Zenos asked.
“No, she was a werebear. She did have a friend but as far as I could tell she was human. I only met her a couple of times but she always gave me the creeps. She was always watching me and Jeremy like she knew something.” Eros told us.
“Where is this girl now?” I asked.
“Dead. I ran into Sabryna and her mate about six months ago when I was at a surfing competition in Bali. I asked about her friend and she told me that she had been killed when her small town had been raided by both the werewolf council and the supernatural council. I have no idea why they would raid a human town.” Eros answered.
Shit, I know exactly which town he is talking about. They weren’t human. I tell them that the town was not a human town. That town was inhabited by incubus’s and succubus’s. They had been kidnapping and breeding with humans for years not to mention selling some to various buyers. They are the ones that raided our one auction that one time and took all the girls then disappeared. I am not sure how the councils found out about them.” I explained.
I could see the wheels turning in Eros’s mind. I hope he doesn’t think that he can get Ellie back, because he can’t. Maybe he has a second chance mate out there. Zenos is ranting and raving. I explained how I found out they were the ones that raided our auction that time. By the time the council found the town most of the girls had been sold. They tell me they need to before someone figures out they are there. I let them know this is fine. I need to get back to the pack before someone becomes suspicious. So far I am positive that they think one of Mandy’s friends are feeding her information, which they are, but they are not the real spy.
“Hey Amir.” Raef says.
“Hey, how is everything going?” I ask.
“Same shit different day.” He mumbles.
I know he will tell me more later. I say my goodbyes as I head towards my aunts place. I do see the Alpha and Gamma walking around. I wonder where Kodi is? Alpha Reign isn’t usually to far from her these days. Especially after the last two kidnapping attempts. Yeah, those idiots didn’t listen to what we told them. They had no idea it was me telling them what to do, but that is irrelevant. I step into my house and lock the door. I smile as I sit down. No one even suspects me and I plan on keeping it that way.
