Chapter 50
We stayed up for most of the night discussing tactics with the vampires. They thought that our plan was terrible but as they couldn't come up with anything better, even after hours and hours of discussion, I didn't feel too bad. I had a feeling that they were only complaining about our plan in order to make us feel inferior to them. That after all seemed to be their favourite hobby.
The only one who didn't insult our plan was Jayne. She hadn't said much since she realised her mistake in dealing with Ryker. She was probably regretting her choices but I was glad things turned out the way they did. Ryker deserved someone who would love him for who he was, not what he could give them. As Jayne was the one who initiated the rejection, Ryker would be given a second chance. Perhaps this one would be worthy of him.
It was almost 2am by the time that we got everyone to finally agree to our plan. I was completely exhausted, so exhausted that when I woke up the next morning I couldn't remember walking back to my room or getting changed the night before.
I must have managed it though because when I woke up I was in bed and in my nightdress. Elijah was standing in the doorway with a breakfast tray in his hands. He was wearing a tightly fitted back t-shirt and grey sweatpants. It wasn't anywhere near as formal as his usual look but he looked just as delicious as always.
"You were pretty exhausted last night so I thought I would bring you breakfast in bed." He said, grinning at me. He brought the tray over to me, placing it on my lap then kissing me softly as he slipped into bed beside me.
It was strange, despite having such a late night last night I felt more refreshed than I had in the last week. It didn't really make sense, I knew that the stress from dealing with Arthur was getting to me but I didn't think I was having that much of an impact. Leaning over, I grabbed my phone from the bedside table and checked the time on its display.
The number 11:05 shone back at me. That wasn't good. Arthur could show up with his supposed distraction at any moment and there was so much I needed to do to be ready for that. I needed to check that everyone knew exactly what their roles were and I wanted to do some last minute research to make sure I wasn't missing something.
Elijah registered my panic and wrapped his arms around me securely. I tried to pull his arms off me and push the tray of food away but he held me in place. He ran his lips across my jaw and neck, making my wolf purr with desire. "We can't do this, we have to be ready for Arthur's attack." I told him.
"Everything is already in place. Most of the vampires left shortly after the meeting, they will already be in position and waiting for our instructions." He replied.
He pulled my body closer to his with one hand while reaching out to pick up a piece of toast from the tray in front of me with his other hand. He held the toast out towards me, I took a small bite from the corner. "There are other things I could be doing, like research." I suggested while Elijah took a bite for himself. He shook his head, disagreeing with me.
"You have been working so hard recently and it isn't healthy. You were so tired last night that you were practically incoherent. If you can't look after yourself properly then you will have to put up with me doing it for you." Elijah purred, feeding me some more toast.
The smile on his face told me that he was enjoying the thought of looking after me. Even if I did everything he wanted I was sure he was going to insist on looking after me for the foreseeable future. I should have expected this with him being an alpha.
"I can see that it is pointless arguing with you." I replied, letting him feed me some more toast.
He continued to feed me until most of the food on the tray was gone. Giving me chaste kisses all over my face and neck in between taking bites of food. I had seen a lot of wolves feed their mate in a similar fashion but I never actually thought I would enjoy being on the receiving end of it. I had been strong and independent all my life, it was good for me to let someone look after me for once.
Once we were done he carried me into the bathroom. We showered together, he washed my skin then took me against the wall. Taking his time to pleasure me completely before taking me so hard that I thought we might break through the bathroom wall. I had never seen him so passionate before and I loved seeing that side of him, I couldn't wait for more.
We took our time getting ready for the day before leaving our room together. We didn't manage to take more than a step before Jayne blocked our path. She was dressed more conservatively than she was last night and she looked as though she hadn't been sleeping very well. Did vampires even need to sleep?
"How long have you been standing there?" I asked.
"Long enough," she replied. There was something in her voice that told me she had heard everything Elijah and I had been doing together.
'Well that is her own stupid fault for listening to us.' Onyx commented, not showing any signs of embarrassment.
"Why aren't you in your position?" Elijah asked, a slight growl in his voice.
"I can't leave until I have spoken to Ryker. I need him to know that I regret what I did and even though I know I don't deserve it I want him to give us another chance." She replied. "Sounds like you are going to be here for a very long time." I rolled my eyes at her.
I knew there was no chance of Ryker agreeing to speak to him after the way he was treated last night. We had been looked down on by werewolves for more of our lives, it was the last thing either of us wanted from our mates. That was part of the reason I had been hoping that Ryker was my mate and I am pretty sure it was the same for him.
Jaynes' eyes snapped towards me. They were filled with undeniable jealousy and anger causing Onyx to surface and growl in frustration. She hated people challenging her, even if the challenge was based on a stupid assumption. "You already have one mate, why are you trying to steal mine."
Now would have been a good time to explain the real nature of our relationship but I wasn't going to let her off so lightly. She deserved to suffer for what she had done and I was glad to be the one to make her pay.

"My relationship is none of your business. If you were a better mate then he would want to be in your bed rather than mine." I growled.
Jayne let out a high pitched scream and ran at me, holding her hands out to grip my neck. She made it to within centimetres of me before Elijah could get in between us and push her away. She staggered backwards until she made contact with the wall and slid down to sit on the floor.
"Are you ok with this alpha? Are you ok with sharing your mate?" Her fight was gone and now she just sounded pathetic.
"They grew up together, they are practically siblings. There is nothing going on between them but her point still stands. You can't reject someone and then expect them to take you back the second you ask."
Elijah shook his head in frustration then offered his hand to Jayne to help her off the floor. She ignored the gesture and picked herself up, not looking either of us in the eyes. Her hair was mostly covering her face but I could smell the treats forming in her eyes and falling down her face.
"Please help me. I promise that I will be a better mate if he gives me a chance." She replied.
Elijah sighed.
"I will speak to him on your behalf as long as you promise to disband your harem immediately." Elijah grumpled.
Jayne looked up, a smile crossing her face. She thanked Elijah profusely while telling him how much of a good mate she was going to be in the future. Her sadness seemed to be nothing but a distant memory now. Her emotions moved so quickly, I was surprised they didn't give her whiplash.
"I can't guarantee that he is going to listen to me but I will speak to him for you." Elijah clarified.
'At least that way he might stop trying to claim my mate as his own,' He added in his mind.
