Chapter 48
Elijah's first reaction was to hold me as though he was terrified of losing me. It took him a few minutes for the shock of the situation to wear off and him to start reacting more normally. He picked me up and carried me over to his desk where he placed me on his lap, gripping my hips tightly.
I could tell from the look on his face that he was already deep in thought, trying to work out what had happened. I nibbled on my lower lip anxiously, this was a conversation that I really didn't want to have.
"Arthur took control of my body didn't he?" He asked after a few seconds.
I nodded my head in agreement. I wasn't sure what else to say, I didn't want to tell him what I had agreed to. I knew how much it would hurt him to know what my plans were but I didn't really want to lie to him either. I felt like Arthur had taken all my choices away and I was sick of it. I couldn't wait until I had the strength to end his miserable existence.
"What did he want from you this time?" He asked.
"Oh the usual, my body and my heart." I replied, trying not to shudder in disgust as the words left my mouth.
"What did he say?" Elijah growled, his eyes glowing as his wolf tried to take control of his body. I bit my lower lip, not sure exactly how to respond. Should I tell him everything or keep the whole meeting this weekend a secret? Just as I opened my mouth to respond Mark came running into Elijah's office. He was breathing heavily and the look on his face told me that he was here because of Arthur's stunt.
"What is it?" Elijah asked, doing a good job of hiding his frustration from his beta.
"People in the pack are reporting losing over an hour's worth of time." Mark replied as he approached us.
"How many people were affected?" Elijah asked.
"So far everyone I have spoken to has reported the same thing." Mark replied, not looking directly at either me or Elijah.
"What did Arthur want from you for so long?" Elijah asked me. He was gripping my waist tightly and breathing in my scent in an attempt to calm himself, but it wasn't working. His anger was coming through our bond clearly and I was sure that his wolf was close to taking control. He probably thought that Arthur tried to make me do something with him against my will, no wonder he was pissed off.
"I tried to avoid him for a while but when I arrived home I realised he had taken over your body and there was no way I could avoid him any longer." I replied, I paused for a moment to check that Elijah wasn't too upset before I continued. "He told me that he wasn't going to let anyone in the pack go unless I agreed to go with him. That he would hold everyone in stasis until they died of dehydration." Elijah growled, pulling me tightly against his body and burying his face in my hair.
"You will not go anywhere with him." he growled.
"I don't see any other way." I mumbled.
"I'm not losing you to him, I will do anything it takes to keep you safe." Elijah replied, his voice cracking as his emotions got the better of him.
It hurt me to hear him like this but it hurt even more that I couldn't give him the reassurance he wanted. This was all my fault for being so weak, what was the point of having special powers if I don't have the strength or the knowledge to wield them.
Elijah managed to hold in his anger and frustration long enough for me to tell him my plan. Mark wasn't quite so patient, he would grumble to himself and shake his head intermittently as I spoke.

'That is because your plan is stupid.' Onyx complained with a huff.
She was sure that our plan was going to get us captured but she was yet to come up with a viable alternative. Going into Arthur's territory was the last thing I wanted to do but I was out of ideas. Mark started pacing across the room in front of Elijah and I, he was deep in thought. As he walked across the room he rubbed the stubble on his chin in circles and mumbled incoherently to himself.
"I think she is right about us needing to take action but we can't let her go alone." Mark said, once he finally stopped pacing.
"She's not going anywhere near that asshole." Elijah growled, his eyes glowing as he spoke. His wolf was in charge and he was angry.
"I can block him out of my mind but nobody else can. He would catch anyone else who tried to go onto his territory." I said. This conversation was starting to go in circles, I know that they were only looking for a way around the problem but I had already tried that. I had spent hours thinking of a different way to end the Arthur problem but it was futile, he was much too powerful.
I was just as worried about my plan as Elijah was, the chances of success were low. There was a good chance I was going to end this week by being taken and held as a hostage. The thought sent a cold chill down my spine. Was this similar to what happened with my mom?
"Correction, he will catch any other werewolves who enter his territory." Mark replied, a smug smirk spreading across his face.
Well shit, why hadn't I thought about that sooner. The power that I share with Arthur all stems from the link that wolves share to one another. The link which allows pack members to mindlink each other and alphas to sense wolves within their pack and mindlink members of other packs.
That connection is much stronger for me but it is still limited to werewolves. I can't sense humans or other supernatural creatures so it stands to reason that Arthur would have the same limitation. If that was the case then we would take a whole army with us into his territory undetected.
"What is your plan?" Elijah asked.
"I have a few contacts in the vampire world. I think I can persuade them to fight with us. I suggest that we send a small group with Diana to Arthur's territory and a larger group to intercept and kill Arthur himself." Mark told us. Elijah nodded his head in agreement.
"That is a good plan and I think it might just work. I only have one problem with the plan, my mate stays here with me." He asserted.
"I would be more useful if I went with them." I objected but Elijah was having none of it. He pulled me closer and kissed me on my neck, slowly working his way up to my lips.
"You are everything to me. I know you are strong but if you ended up getting hurt then I wouldn't be able to live with myself." He whispered, his lips pressing against my skin.
I wanted to object and persuade him that he was being overprotective but I knew that he was far too emotional to listen to me right now. If I wanted to persuade him to let me go then I was going to have to do it slowly over the week ahead. We spent the rest of the afternoon and well into the night planning our attack. I started out by showing Elijah and Mark where I thought Arthur's pack was and explaining the layout of my old pack in as much detail as I remembered. From there Mark started talking to his vampire friends and Elijah started planning possible strategies. While this was going on I went back to studying my books, although I had great trouble concentrating.
I found myself listening in to a lot of the conversations that Mark was having. I didn't know a great deal about vampires and I was curious about them. Unlike werewolves who were loyal and protected their own kind, vampires only seemed to care about themselves.
Most of the calls that Mark had seemed to revolve around what they would get in return for fighting by our side. Even so Mark seemed to have a lot of experience in dealing with vampires and he argued his case well. After a few hours we already had nearly twenty vampires who were willing to fight with us. As long as we managed to take Arthur by surprise this should be more than enough to accomplish our goals. I think I was going to sleep well tonight for the first time in, I don't know how long.
