Chapter 16
Christian drove me to the alpha's mansion just before 6pm. I had packed pretty lightly. I had only brought an overnight bag and a couple of suitcases with me, I could pick up the rest of my stuff later if this whole thing worked out. There was no point lugging all of my stuff over her if I was going to get rejected before the night was over.
I was truly shocked by how much stuff I had managed to stuff into my room in only a few years. When we had moved from the cottage we all had so few belongings that they had easily fit into the back of Christian's car but now I could easily fill that car on my own.
The alpha's mansion was absolutely massive. I had always avoided this side of town but I had imagined that the alpha's mansion would be similar to how I remember my parents' mansion. I was wrong.
This place made my parents' house look like nothing more than a large house. This mansion was the kind of place that you would expect to see in some period drama about wealthy families in England. It looked pretty out of place at the outskirts of a small American city such as this.
There was a short driveway which led to an oversized door within a large central section of the building. To either side of this section of the house were wings which on their own looked to be bigger than my parents' old house. Christian dropped me off at the end of the driveway. I watched him drive away before I turned to face the ridiculously oversized door. I looked at the door feeling self conscious and awkward, was I meant to knock on this thing? I closed my eyes and focused on what was going on behind the door. I could hear Elijah moving behind the door and I could hear his thoughts.
"I can't fuck this up, I can't lose her." He was thinking.
I could also tell that he was pacing around the room and I could feel his anxiety. I felt guilty for making him feel this way. If I had listened to him when we first met this wouldn't be such an awful mess.
I took a deep breath and knocked on the door before I had a chance to panic and second guess myself. I could feel my wolf urging my forward, she was eager to meet her mate.
I heard Elijah rush towards the front of the house. Seconds later the door opened. I took a long look at the man in front of me. He was dressed up in a grey shirt and black trousers. He looked so different from the first time I saw him. I watched as he ran his fingers through his long dark hair, he looked utterly delicious. The alpha in me wanted to claim him right then and there.
'I would love to see his face if you marked him right here on the doorstep.' Onyx said.
"I think that I owe you an apology." He said.
"I never meant to call you a rogue. That is how my brother refers to your family but I know that is not acceptable behaviour. You deserve better than that. Can you forgive me?" He said. I nodded my head.
"I think I need to apologise too. I heard you use the same derogatory name for me as your brother uses and I overreacted." I said.
"Maybe we should just pretend that yesterday didn't happen and start again." He said.
"I think that is a good idea." I said.
I could feel a huge smile spreading across my face. He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me firmly into his chest. I wrapped my arms around him and leaned into him slightly. It felt amazing, almost as though I was melting into his arms.
"She is so perfect, I am so lucky to have her." He thought.
He held me for a few more seconds before he swept the hair away from face and kissed my cheek. His lips lingered on my skin for a moment, sending tingles across my face and shivers down my spine.
'I told you he wanted us.' Onyx said, she was practically purring.
"I should show you around your new home." He said. I could feel him smiling against my cheek and I could feel the happiness radiating out of him in waves.
We left my suitcases by the front door while he showed me around the house. The parts in the centre were used for pack business and events whereas the wings to either side of the main area were private. The wing on the left hand side was for the alpha and his direct family, which meant it would just be me and Elijah for now. The wing on the right hand side was for the alpha's extended family. I guess that means that I wouldn't have to worry about walking into Felix first thing in the morning and ruining my day.
The front door opened onto a very large reception area which was dominated by a huge double staircase made out of some kind of dark wood. The staircase led to a large balcony area which overlooked the entrance. There were five rooms upstairs. The biggest of these was a meeting room with a long imposing table in the middle made from the same dark wood as the stairs. Next to this room was Elijah's office. Opposite this there were three smaller offices which were occupied by other high ranking pack members.

Behind the main reception area on the ground floor there was a room which looked as though it was used for banquets. There were approximately twenty large tables dotted around the room with a further table on a raised platform. There were large double doors which led out to an extensive covered area in the garden with more tables than I could count. The room was elaborately decorated in the pack's colours of Teal and grey.
"This is where we have the events for the pack." He told me.
"It's beautiful." I replied. Elijah smiled at me.
"I am glad you like it." He took hold of my hand and walked with me to the front of the room.
"This is where you will sit when I introduce you as my luna on Friday." He said.
He looked so happy and that happiness was contagious. I was starting to think that maybe my necklace would be enough to hide me from whoever it was that killed my family. Maybe we could have a future together.
"I wonder why she didn't come to any of our events. I couldn't have claimed her but knowing she was here and safe would have given me so much peace of mind." He thought.
"Felix said that I wasn't welcome at the pack events." I said. He looked at me suspiciously. I needed to learn to stop answering the questions in his head before I got myself in trouble.
"You mean my brother is the reason I spent years worrying that my mate was dead." Elijah growled.
I nodded my head. I could feel his anger growing through our bond. His eyes changed colour as he struggled to control his wolf.
"It is ok though because I am here with you now." I said.

"You have no idea how much I have longed for you." He said.
He put his hands on my hips and pulled me towards him. I could feel exactly how much he was longing for me as he pressed against my body. He leaned forward and pressed his lips against mine.
I wrapped my arms around him and deepened our kiss. Every fibre of my being was screaming at me to claim him as mine. To bite him so every wolf would know he belonged to me.
He ran his tongue across my lips. I opened my mouth to allow him access.
"Whoa. I did not need to see that." Felix said.
"Well then you should have knocked." Elijah replied, he didn't even try to hide his frustration.
"Mom wanted me to tell you that food is ready. She is really excited to meet your mate." Felix said.
"We will be right there." Elijah said. Felix nodded his head in agreement and then left us alone again.
"Don't worry honey, they will love you." Elijah said as he led me out of the room.
"Just like I do." He thought.
