Chapter 15
I normally walked around school with my head down but even that didn't stop me from noticing that there was something different. At first I thought it was all in my head, Then I remembered the woman at the coffee shop and I started to pay a little more attention.
Over the last few years I had grown used to the other students calling me a rogue and generally making fun of me. I had a small group of friends but other than that I was ignored by most of the school. The only other people who didn't ignore me were Felix's crowd. They knew that Felix had a problem with me and they wanted to show their support by bullying me.
Today however, everything was different. Every lesson I went to that morning the other students would glance in my direction and whisper when I walked in the room. People were stopping me in the corridor just to talk to me. Some people even lowered their heads to me as I passed them. Apparently everyone in the pack knew I would be their luna soon.
When I walked into the dining area there was nobody sitting at our normal table. I sat down so that my back was facing towards the room. Maybe that way nobody else would notice me and I could have a normal lunchtime. "What the hell Diana? Why didn't you tell me about you and Elijah?" Ava said.
Her voice was loud and shattered through any idea I had about fading into the background. A quick glance around the room confirmed that everyone was indeed looking at us. I turned my back on them and tried to concentrate on my friends. Ava sat in the seat opposite me. Ryker took the seat next to me in silence. He was still upset over the events of this morning and I could tell that he was conflicted. I had always been able to read Ryker like an open book. Right now he wanted to be close to me but he was also angry with me for not rejecting Elijah.
I ignored his mood and explained to Ava what happened between me and Elijah. I made sure not to mention anything to do with my powers or even hinted that there was anything different about me. Ava was shocked when I told her what Elijah thought about me.
"I think he must have been nervous because he isn't like that at all." Ava said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
I felt a little betrayed. Ava was my best friend, she should support me but here she was taking my mates side. If I said that I didn't like him then she should automatically hate him rather than being captain of the Elijah Vaughn fan club. "I have never spoken to him personally but everyone that has said he is the nicest person they know." Ava said.
Ryker groaned and rolled his eyes, he was never going to be in the Elijah Vaughn fan club.
"Why do people say he is nice? Are you sure that it isn't just because he is hot and a strong alpha?" I asked.
A lot of our kind would gravitate to an alpha, Felix was a good example of this. He was only ever going to be an alpha's brother and yet people gravitate towards him. It doesn't matter how badly he treats them, they still keep coming back because he is powerful and some would say attractive.
"Maybe he just doesn't want a mate." I said, trying to keep the disappointment from my voice.
Ava looked at me sympathetically, I guess I shouldn't take up poker any time soon.
"I don't think that is the case." Ava said.
"What do you mean?" I said.
Ryker glared at Ava. He was barely hiding his frustration which right now was fully directed at Ava. He hated that Ava was trying to improve my first impression of Elijah. He wanted her to stop talking but Ava was completely ignoring him. "Firstly, everyone knows that he has been looking for his mate for years. He could have practically any woman in the pack and yet as far as I can tell he hasn't dated any of them." She said.
I nodded my head in agreement even though I didn't think that proved much. He could have been abstaining from relationships because he was looking for his mate. He could also be a complete fuckboy who is good at hiding his indiscretions from the rest of the pack.
Also, the fact that he told others he wanted his mate could mean anything. Some alpha's wanted a mate as their partner and equal while others only wanted a strong breeding partner.
"Secondly, if he didn't want you then why would he be telling everyone that he had found his luna." She said.
"I don't know." I replied, after all that question had been floating around in my head all morning.
"Wait a minute, what do you mean telling everyone?" I asked. I had heard about him telling his family and people in his house, was there more?
Ava blushed.
"I probably shouldn't have said anything." She said, looking sheepish.

"Hi sis." Felix said, causing me to cringe. I hope he wasn't going to start calling me that, I think I prefer him calling me rogue.
He sat down at our table followed by the rest of his friends, there were so many of them that they even had to pull up extra chairs. I felt awkward having them join us like this but what could I say? I couldn't exactly tell him to fuck off. Charlotte sat down next to Felix. She tried to hold his hand but he quickly pulled his hand out of her reach. He then shuffled his chair away to put some extra distance between them, Charlotte looked hurt.
What did she expect? Felix had a reputation, he had dated almost every girl in our year and yet he hadn't stayed with any of them for more than a few weeks at most. His attitude towards women was part of the reason I had judged Elijah so quickly when I met him. Maybe I had judged him unfairly, he didn't seem to be anything like his brother so far.
"So what is the alpha like in bed?" Charlotte asked.
"We didn't do anything like that." I replied blushing deeply.
"It is only a matter of time and I expect details." Charlotte said, pointing at me.
"Sure." I said, begging for someone to change the topic and save me.
Fortunately for me Felix was unable to cope without attention for more than a few minutes. He started up a conversation about some football game they would be having later in the week. A few of his friends joined in, taking the attention away from me. Thank the moon goddess.
